01 Lightness and Vitality Sneaker experience hall Academic work / Individual Work Location: Changsha,China Building type: Public buildings Date:3/2020-8/2020(B. Arch Year4) Tutor: jingjing Shan At the beginning, I want to find a place to activate this city. Therefore, this building is designed for the Surrounding residents running and walking, which can bring energy to the city For the vitality, I opt for the function to illustrate this. Besides, people are able to see the sceneries which include the city and the local river view when they run on the platform of this building. For the lightness, I choose the steel structure to support the whole building. On top of that, the truss to lift the whole building and the cable lifts the runway, which represents the subject. 02 Embrace the Nature Funeral home Academic work / Individual Work Location: Xiangtan, China Building type: Public buildings Date:12/2019-2/2020(B. Arch Year4) Tutor: jingjing Shan The design of the funeral home initially address the issues of how to link the building to temple on the south side of the site , to better integrate the building with the surroundings and to create the sacred atmosphere of the funeral home. There is an axis which is used to connect the building with the temple. Besides, the pond on the east side is introduced into the building, allowing the building to interact with nature. In addition, because Chinese people are introverted, and the funeral home is also a place with introverted and serious sense, walls are used to create a sense of enclosure around the building, creating a kind of atmosphere of chinese garden, and echoing with the landscape. Finally, in order to strengthen the sacred atmosphere, windows on the building's facade are vertical. As the sacred light is always vertical in people's mind, the windows are designed in this way. Note: This project was finished at Hunan University of Science and Technology

SITE ANALYSIS The site is in Yuhu District Xiangtan city, Hunan Province. It is not very far from my university. But the two road has lots of noise. Also, sun light can be the design point in this building. It influence the elevation of my building. The axis informs a good connection with the site and the traditional temple. In addition, the surroundings can be a part of my building. For example, the pool can be expanded and the trees can be an element in this funeral home.

When it comes to how to deal with the surroundings , people and building in a harmonious way, Tang Dynasty painter Tang yin “Step Stream Map” gives an answer. The mountain represents the sloping roof and most different natural mountains. The second spatial is the river. It is divided into pond and plants. The wall has an introverted feeling, catering for the topic of building.

The first picture shows the sloping roof link to the surroundings in a natural way. It can echo with the mountains. Also, this picture shows the entrance of the building which is solemn. It is because the stone surface can create a feeling of the entity. Besides, the three main boxes have a good connection with the south of the temple.

The second picture of this funeral home shows the family meeting room and the flower house. These two rooms are surrounded by the pond. When people look at the pond , they can ease the pain of losing a loved one by the peaceful scenery. In addition , the elevation of this two boxes are looked like carved stone. It increases the feeling of people walking across the mountain.

03 Shelter Stadium Academic work / Individual Work Location: Changsha, China Date:9/2020-12/2020(B. Arch Year5) Building type:Public buildings Tutor:Jian Zhang To begin with, the concept comes from Xiangjiang which is the mother river of Changsha. Therefore, the connection between river and roof is the main aim of the design. By analysing changes in water, the roofs have different shapes. Besides, when students meet terrible weather , the roof can be the shelter of them. They can avoid the trouble of strong sunlight and rain through the roof. Finally, After considering the flow of people, the roof with eight raised corners becomes the entrance for different pedestrians. In addition, through these roofs, people can enjoy the different scenery inside the school as they walk around the ring road. Note: This project was finished at Hunan University of Science and Technology

04 Mechanical Arm Cutting foam Location: Shanghai, China Type: Computational design Date:10/2021-12/2021 Role: Individual Work Advisor: Teng Teng This project is to use different procedures to finish robot fabrication. The first step is to assemble a robotic arm and design a dynamic model in grasshopper. Following this, the Firefly connects with phone to achieve interaction with robot arm, which will let people use the remote-control methods to finish their fabrication. In a word, this project will improve the ability to do things, and actually build things. More importantly, this technology and tool extremely aids people to finish their idea and make their idea become more real. In the future, the robot arm is really a good tool to design and get a real items for people to finish some fantastic ideas. Note: This project, named Open Project 199,is finished at Studio Alpha in Shanghai, China.

The experiments of cutting & Thinking

Development After that, I come out a way to try to reduce the errors, which is to hold the foam block with the robot arm, and then fix the hot electric knife, and make some artistic cuts as much as possible. Then, I need to rebuild the movement of the robot arm.

After several experiments, this robot arm cannot keep stable in some small places. It will cause the error on the surface, which will not allow the bubbles to fit well together.

The reason of the problem By analysing the desk robot arm, there are several problems on the structural design. The first one is that 2nd axis is removed into error place. At the same time, the steering gears also have angle errors. Furthermore, the fourth and fifth axis are not in right point. Lastly, the end effector is too long to cut the foam. Shooted on workshop Reason 1

End Effector design & Working Space By trying these two cutting ways, there are several models for cutting. However, it doesn’t look good. In the end, there are three suitable models.

Compared with the hand cutting, I find that this tool is not suitable for cutting and doing the fabrication. Hand cutting can achieve more smooth lines on the surface. T h e re fo re , i n t h e future, I want to use more advanced robot arm to achieve the fabrication. Hand cutting

05 Interlock Mountain building Academic Work / Individual Work Location: Zhang jiajie, China Building type: Public buildings Date:10/2020-11/2020(B. Arch Year5) Advisor: Xiaotang Tang This project is located in the zhangjiajie which has lots of gorgeous scenery. At the beginning, the concept comes from “Interlock”. By using the word, cubes have lots of forms. These cubes transfer from 15*15*3mm to15*15*15mm space. The whole process reflects the use of relatively flat spatial language to expand to three-dimensional space. It represents the succession of thinking. Finally, the final model based on the space composition is adapted to the requirements of the site and the scheme. The site selection is the cliff of Zhangjiajie, and the program is the observation deck. Note: This project, named Open Project 144&155, was finished at Studio Alpha in Shanghai, China.
