What’s In A Number - Life or Death?

by Ed Brown

Whether it is a slab number for a short-term stay here at TGO, or a house number for your million-dollar dream home, it is identified by a property number. That number will identify where items you special ordered get delivered, or the precise spot where you need to have EMS or law enforcement personnel come to RIGHT NOW! Your property number could well be the most important number of your life RIGHT NOW! Don’t Hide It! You claim that the two hurricanes that paid us a visit in October removed the sign from the front of your house and you haven’t had an opportunity to replace it? How about today! The property number on your driveway is unreadable... “has been for two years.” Could you call the CSA office and get a Work Order started for the CSA crew to repaint it? If you want the number in a color other than white, the CSA office will lend you the number stencils and you can have the satisfaction of painting it yourself. Remember to return the number stencils to the CSA office!

A survey conducted in November checked property numbering on Plantation Drive. Thirty-two properties were found to have numbers that were: MISSING, FADED, INCORRECT, DIRTY or otherwise UNSATISFACTORY.

CSA Manager Billy Specht suggested that the CSA office could “dispatch our crew to repaint address numbers on driveways. Simply call us for a work order. Please know that we only paint numbers in white paint, so if your driveway is treated or if you would prefer another color or design, then please seek other options. We are also happy to lend you our number stencils, if you wish to repaint the numbers yourself.”

House numbers can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes or ACE Hardware for attachment to your home for about $3 each. Make sure that you apply these numbers in a location visible from the roadway, traveling in either direction. Keep plant growth trimmed back so that House Numbers remain visible.

“Delayed Response” of Emergency Services is frustrating to the responders and devastating to the home owner, particularly when a life is lost for lack of a clear address number!
