WHY THINKING? As the seminar on the matrix method of thinking is one blonde put me in a very awkward position with his simple question: "AND WHAT DOES THE THINKING?" I could not answer... but it was so obvious! "I think, therefore I am" - but it does not answer the question "why?". Later I remembered about this question and decided to use the matrix method to find a suitable answer: # # To ask such questions. # # Not to ask such questions. # # To find answers to questions. # # To solve problems better and faster. # # To know where to move and to set goals. # # To fill my life with meaning. # # In order to grow and develop. # # In order to realize their talents. # # To know the world in which we...

THE ORGANIZATION OF THE EVENT I propose to start with the matrix method with a simple situation. Imagine that you are organizing a seminar or a birthday and want to spend it at a high level. Immediately comes to mind is a list of "What to do?" we normally make, then the list of guests Whom to invite?" and the list of "Program" and so on. You can use the check-list, in order not to forget anything, or to brainstorm attack and map thinking. And you can try to make a matrix of the event! Matrix form will allow to systematize the elements ensuring the success of the event and to find what we never did. The form allows you to concentrate on the Essentials, to collect success factors, to note and correct errors in actions for the future.

THE ELEMENTS OF SUCCESS The key to success may be not only in the field of intelligence and thinking, it also lies in factors such as: understanding success, health, personal qualities, interpersonal skills, relationships with other people, professional competence, even market conditions, luck, and unknown factor "X", which all somehow forget. Do not rush to blame your thinking or to buy this book in the hope that you will quickly learn and succeed. Thinking is one of the elements, but it is a key element that can affect all the others and bring them in accordance with your understanding of success. This book is for those who set and reach goals, for those who make decisions in conditions of controversy and uncertainty. The development of thinking will contribute to the understanding of their capabilities and to expand the limits of the possible. 20

THANKS The appearance of this book, I am indebted to many people: first of all, their parents and teachers that have served me well for example, the wife who inspires and believes in me and my ideas. I also wanted to thank friends, colleagues and students for their support, constructive dialogue, awkward questions, which forced me to seek and find answers and more precisely to formulate thoughts. Invaluable assistance was provided by the first readers, and the people with whom I spoke on the matrix method of thinking. Thank you all, without your participation, the book would have been a set of ideas, insights and revelations in our dreams, conversations and plans.

Background 1 The first matrix had met on my way thanks to slippe of Irina Igorevna a teacher of economy in 1993, MADI, it was the matrix "Price-Quality". It was on the course "Economics", while obtaining my first higher technical education. Then it made me wonder, was that the world is not linear, high quality does not always meet the highest price, and Vice versa. On the market there are a whole variety of combinations of "quality" and "price" and the price is high, yet not a sign of quality. This matrix was the basis for further observation and research opportunities matrices.

Background 2 The second acquaintance with matrix method, is the matrix G. S. Altshuller, which came to me from the pages of books about technical creativity and invention. Altshuller proposed mentally to look at the object under study, and to see him on nine screens. On the horizontal axis, to see the development of the subject in time: past, present and future (Voitov, author of the book "Self-thinking"). On the vertical axis - the ability to see a system, subsystem, which consists in studying the object; the object itself as a system; and a super-system, part of which he is. Thus, we get the matrix "3x3" of the nine cognitive screens on which you can see the object under study. 40

Background 3 When in 1998 I conducted research motivation work in business organizations, Moscow occurred in the third meeting with the matrix. The study was aimed at identifying paradox when not motivation leads to the result, and the content of the work creates motivation . The model of the experiment required a survey of employees of various organizations, and in preparation of the experiment I met with Zosia Gerchikova, head of HR Department of the company. She secretly told me about tasks in personnel management. For the best memory I have had these problems in the form of a matrix 3x3. Since the time for students of the course "Management" I traditionally depict the challenges of HRM in the form of a matrix that helps not only to remember them, but also to see the relationships between tasks. 42

Background 4 The study of motivation I noticed an original technique used by Herzberg in his theory of motivation. Traditionally, it was assumed that the desire to work and dissatisfaction is the opposite of the human condition, which were located on the same axis of motivation. The main discovery Herzberg that "motivation" and "dissatisfaction" occur in different conditions and they are affected by different factors. Therefore, these two States can be represented independently from each other in a matrix of motivation, in which it is possible not two, but four of the limiting state of motivation. It is important to note that Herzberg ripped logical dichotomy of "good-bad" and brought it to a new level of contradiction. He showed the existence of two completely different kinds of forces that we took for one. 44

Understanding what is now and what’s will

Background 5 As for the course "decision Making" I was invited to a lecture by Edward S., General Director of Agency "Book service" to tell the students about the practice of making decisions. Talking about the employees of the organization, responsibility and professionalism. The questions were different, and the answer was one simple thought: "Professional knows the details, and focus on what parts you cannot learn from a textbook or school, they are from different actions in different situations. One of the features of the matrix, this division of the whole into parts or elements to the desired degree of detail, one analytical technique called "Beth". The effectiveness of the division is to maintain the structure of the "3x3" and not to miss the point. The method also allows to observe and to fill in the elements of the matrix parts, based on my own experience and results, validating thus the theoretical generalization of the practice.

46

MATRIX COMMUNICATIONS

From the closed to an open position

The viewing direction and position in space

47

Background 6 The next step in the formation of the matrix method is passed the course "Concepts of leadership" where I invited his former student, Dmitry Ilvovskogo. The course was designed so that in the practical part used "method is effective storyteller" and leadership stories. A good story has to bear not only a strong idea to keep the audience's attention, but also lead students to unknown earlier situations, to create a new experience. I knew Dmitri as a good storyteller. My academic goal was simple - to show a person with a pronounced key leadership competencies. Dmitry I set the task to talk about communication and to reveal the secrets of his skill. Finally, the participants in the leadership course has received the formula of effective communication in a matrix, which they tested on their own experience. 48

Background 7 The next step in the understanding of thinking was the invitation to the course "Decision Making" consultant, author of the book, "The Objection" businessman Andrei Kuznetsov. The topic of the lecture was concerned with the informational aspect of decision making. Andrew told about “Antilogic, one of the paradoxes of the human mind. People in business sometimes act illogically, contrary to the rules and come to better results. This paradox is still not solved. In continuation of the research I have compiled a matrix of Antilogic" and invite participants to offer their ideas illustrating antilogic". The answers usually are options already seen antilogic, and participants it is difficult to go beyond formal logic, even if the experience proves the opposite.

Background 8 This study could not have taken place if one fine Sunny day in the bookstore, York University, Toronto in Canada, I have not seen the book, Alex Lowy and Phil Hood "Power 2x2". And then I had some assumptions and hypotheses: The first hypothesis about the original matrix method "3x3", compared to quadrants "2x2", because the basis matrix "3x3" is another logic. The second hypothesis is much more functional, thanks to the larger dimension of the matrix 3x3 should be expected and a larger number of possible techniques and ideas that were collected in a matrix 3x3 method. The third hypothesis of the existence of qualitative differences and fundamentally new method of thinking. This hypothesis occurred to me after I became acquainted with the method of "2x2" and to understand the limits of its capabilities. Hypothesis testing can be found in this book.

Background 9 The formation method and the understanding of that matrix mindset is an independent method, occurred during the demonstration matrix method "3x3" in the scientific community. When discussing popular organizational concepts, one of the participants familiar with the method, drew a matrix 3x3" and filled it with items from different concepts. After that showered the questions: "Where is the matrix axis?", "What dimension?", "What is this addiction?", ... During the discussion, all attempts to apply to the matrix 3x3 logic quadrants (2x2) were broken. Matrix method "3x3" gives more opportunities and freedom! A group of researchers had expected to see traditional quadrants, table, or grid coordinates. The logic and possibilities of the method "3x3" turned out to be more flexible in use than the quadrants describing contradiction or coordinate grid reflecting the relationship between two phenomena. 54

55

DEVELOPMENT OF THIS METHOD It turned out that the matrix 3x3" can work in logic quadrants "2x2", but in itself is more flexible and can operate in other modes. At this point, the matrix method was finally separated from the Cartesian coordinates (x,y) and began a focused exploration opportunities and development potential. The idea was introduced themselves, with some Recalling examples from the past where something happened insights, sometimes to the ideas pushed ridiculous pictures and words on t-shirts or posters. Application of the matrix method in the training course "decision Making" and "Organizational behavior 2.0" helped to identify white spots in thinking, encourage participants to build and test their own theories. Since then, the matrix method is brimming with know-how and concepts in the format of "3x3" that work and help people to unlock the potential of their thinking. 56

CHALLENGES THINKING Thinking distinguishes man from animal, human intelligence is the engine and the basis for progress. Information flows create information overload, and our brain blocks the perception of the new. Information is easy, not challenging, and it is the atrophy of our thinking. The new lifestyle requires a lot of intellectual resources, and "gymnastics for the mind" became less. Creative work takes up more space and time, we need new ideas amaze. Thinking involve everybody from psychologists, philosophers, linguists, mathematicians, magicians to religious figures, but... We explore the depths of our brain in order to make it more manageable and loyal to brands. We understand the words, but not hear each other, and the revealing of the truth results in a showdown. The struggle for existence redistribution of wealth has shifted from the physical to the intellectual level. Thinking is no substitute for action, but the power of thought is seen in the actions and in the results obtained. 62
