Open Space Xianhe has beautiful scene and is mostly flat. Xianhe Mountain, Yang Mountain and Ling Mountain form the high points. Green corridors are formed between mountains and lakes. The central district should not be high, and three lakes are set as main element for space landscape, connecting the three mountains around central and central internal and making up the open space system in the center. The spacial interaction of three mountains and three lakes is therefore realized.

The overall construction height around the central district of Xianhe is low and plot ratio is low in general. The university campus on the north of central district is of low height under 24 meters. Buildings of high quality apartments are on the west of central district, with height lower than 60 meters. Commercial facilities, such as Golden Eagle, in the central district is lower than 35 meters, as the overall height of central district is recommended not too high, coordinating with surrounding buildings. Lot E1 and E2 are built, so height of E3 and E4 should be in accordance with E1 and E2, with a height of 50 to 100 meters.

It costs 125.1 -208.5 million CNY to make the artificial lake. For the bridge and road mending fee, it will cost approx. 22,000㎡*6,000CNY/㎡=132 million CNY. On the other hand, the new national policy requires to avoid wasteful construction including artificial lake. The approved plan is not feasible. This revision suggests to optimize the current lake shape.

Problems & Solutions Lake Shape

Open Space Approved Plan

Problems Making artificial lake by digging the land , making the land by filling a lake and heightening the roadbed is at high cost and is of low feasibility.

Construction quantity of Lot B is too big. It’s too high in the low density Xianhe district.

The interface of three lakes block the people activity stream. The central is divided into pieces, not suitable for business and culture centralization.

Open space of the three Lots in central zone is relatively individual, lack of inward gathering and outward extension.

Landmark

Solutions Plan After Adjustment Based on status quo, to optimize the lake shape in Lot B by decreasing the lake area slightly with high feasibility.

Adjust the building layout in Lot B, expand from the lake surface, reduce the quantity & intensity, and better reconciled with environment.

Buildings & landscape are along the lake side, forming unified space and improving the accessibility & business atmosphere continuity.

A gathering square is formed on the cross point of three lakes. The connectivity of four lots is reinforced, displaying ecological environment in central.

Landmark

Skyline The layout of point-style buildings is used as much as possible for high constructions along the green belts in the center business of Lot D&E, ensuring the line of sight.

The landmark on the east is limited to the height of 120m, as the peak of constructions & visual focal point of three lakes & three mountains in the central zone.

According to “GAOCHUN ANCIENT ANNALS ” and “MUXI WANGS GENEALOGY” in Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, early in the Southern Song Dynasty, the Hanlin Xiaoshan WANG moved to GAOCHUN and planted a special kind of Osmanthus, which has five colors as red, yellow, purple, orange and white, and it gradually became a forest. The village is therefore named “Muxi Village”.

Background The national plan of new urbanization (2014-2020) To build new socialist countryside and beautiful homeland for farmers’ happy life. To build unique beautiful country. To retain the scene of countryside, national culture, and local cultural characteristics, based on improving village function. The advice as to entirely deepen reform country and implement country modernization, given by Jiangsu Province Government (2014.01) A solid progress in country environment renovation, preventing cutting trees, no digging, no filling the lake, less demolition, building beautiful countryside, to improve country living environment. Actively improving the country environment renovation by Jiangsu Province Government (2011.11) The implementation entirely improve the countryside construction, mobilize all related departments to act quickly and advance the country environment renovation. Strategy of Buildings and Environment Road Renovation Widening the road (to wide the main entrance to 6.3 meters) Improving the accessibility of the internal traffic Planting Osmanthus to be border trees

Interface Renovation As the east interface plays an active role of presenting Muxi, it is the most important part to renovate. Based on the original buildings, the planning generally present the effect of white walls and steel grey tiles with simplicity, contrasting with the farmland in front of the road, and create a lively pace of interface effect.

Stage 1 According to “Muxi Wangs Genealogy”, the path is reserved, with Osmanthus tree is on each side. Lotus pond is renovated with Muxi terrace set in the pond hanging a tablet “Tianxiangyunwai”. As to the status quo that the pond is surrounded with buildings, the display space is placed on the water, enclosed by corridor and connecting some nodes by characteristic stepping stones.

Stage 2 Surrounding buildings are demolished. According to the genealogy, five osmanthus trees are planted on the east of pond. Flowers and plants colored red, orange, yellow, white and purple in tree grates, as the specific explanation of “five-color Osmanthus”. It is about 4000 square meters for stage2 and 14 families need to move. Aquatic plants in the vat and flower bed are placed betw een the stage and Muxi terrace, on the east of pond, leading people to the next node, strengthening the connection of two plots in the ancient spread node.

Evolution of The Spatial Form & Functions This design focus on the north lot. Because of the context of the base, this design concentrates on how to enlarge its military character and make use of the excellent landscape at the same time, balancing the culture and the environment. Meanwhile, it brings some challenge that military characteristic of the base is no t obvious and small lot area with distinct height difference. “Service strip”, as the essential element of the base, can help divide the space. It presents length of military service, and improve the land utilization and site height difference to the greatest extent, creating different space perception through space division by strip area. 1st Year

Dividing the green, land for leisure and waterscape by strip area.

Project Concept Design Description As green is basic color for military and the base is covered by plants, green is also used as basic color in the design, expressing a peaceful, tough and relaxed feeling. The north lot is divided into residence, clubhouse and public activity area. The residence face the south with the highest terrain and wonderful view. Every villa has its separate alley and privacy is ensured. Besides, water pass through the whole clubhouse, utilizing the high mountain to run down, which symbolizing a story of running water taking away the time.
