CHIU, KAI SIN

1992. 02. 13 From life to design, from design to life

Autobiography I’m currently studying in a graduate school at the National Taipei University of Technology. I have experienced in different fields including Product, graphics, and research design. In design competitions, I won a lot of prizes including iF design concept award top 300 in 2015, RedDot award winner, Uneec Applied Design Award, Taipei International Design Award and so on. I even went to the U.S.A. for joining the international conference. During my time in school, I attended various workshops. Those workshops were taught me to know what is creative service and design thinking. In these experience, I had a chance to work closely with many people from different countries. I think participating in the competition and workshop not only are able to affirm the designer and to increase the confidence, but also, more importantly, could make the designer ponder the breadth and depth of works. For me, I believe design is happening anytime and anywhere. Each nation's design and creation, are inseparable from its quality of life; behind the design of goods, is full of the humanistic value of the vitality.

PROBLEM Hard to find where to inject

Keep bleeding after injecting

Workers need to spend a lot of time to confirm the patient's vascular position.

It is not easy to stop bleeding when the blood vessels have not vasoconstriction completely.

Hot-Cold Bandage This design improves the situation by using T.G.M.(thermoelectric generating module). The orange side of the bandage will be heated, it causes blood vessels to expand, and increasing the chance to inject successfully. The blue side is for stopping bleeding through cooling and constricting blood vessels. The slim and compact design is easily to carry.

2016 7TH International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics Conferences

Through this case study on an extensive collection of You-AreHere signs we have discussed, extended commentary on and identified problems with the use and function of You-Are-Here signs. We analyzed these signs in separate stages, understand the feelings of people who use You-Are-Here signs, how they transmit ideas, and finally the signs convey identification. After this discovery period we then adjusted You-Are-Here signs to address the problems identified.

people move around in unfamiliar public spaces, they frequently lose their bearings and sense of direction. This disorientation leads to a perceived loss of control resulting in anxiety and even fear. In such situations people have to rely on at-site maps to determine their position and orientation. Previous studies are pointing out that maps are the most commonly used tools for people to attain spatial orientation, they are the result of human spatial cognition, and simultaneously they are also an important tool for spatial cognition; the study of maps as a tool of spatial cognition has already become core part of cartography. When using maps for positioning, directions and navigation, the most important key element is the attainment a current position and orientation information. The You-AreHere sign on maps is used to verify one’s own position, furthermore it enables us to determine directions and is the first step in any route planning. The importance of the You-Are-Here sign stems from these characteristic.

80

PROBLEM Many You-Are-Here sign examples

still fail to serve their purpose of speedily conveying positioning information within the map. Also lack clearly recognizable direction characteristics, making it impossible for the user to tell on which side of the path he is actually located. Especially in map designs using the oftseen 2.5D map shapes combined with You-Are-Here Signs this poses a serious issue when it comes to positioning and orientation.

Therefore this research explores the

relation between the You-Are-Here sign appearance and the information people draw from it. This will allow us to find out which kind of presentation/ display and which elements are best suited to evoke speedy spatial cognition and convey the information in the most efficient manner possible. And finally we will layout our “Youare-here” sign design improvement suggestions, hoping that these findings can enhance travelers’ wayfinding results and overall spatial cognition within public spaces. THE STUDY FOUND

01 The main elements of the humanoid form were most likely to lead people to identify the correct association meaning presented by the mark and made it the most effect form in helping viewers to locate themselves on a map.

02 The arrow was the best at establishing directional elements and that helped readers orient themselves with respect to where they desired to go.

You-Are-Here sign with the scope of color, texts, and 2.5D appearance were also identified to help the reader establish positioning.

04 2.5D humanoid elements can also assist arrows to show the direction. However, 2.5D humanoid marks also had specific steering angle problems and blind spot problems. Through experiments, we found that showing action with arm positioning to establish direction can help to overcome blind spots problems.

During and analysis of the of the marks presentation, we also discovered that the signs viewed from the front required more time and effort to understand than those viewed from behind.

RESULTS According to the above findings, the present study proposes a design in the final proposal and prepares the following recommendations:

01 Make good use of the human form elements, 2.5D, and adding color range, text effects to help identify and locate the sign.

02 Make good use of the arrow elements and humanoid hands action to show the directional basis.

03 Recommend that the You-Are-Here sign should be in the same direction with the reader, can help the reader make a quick and accurate judgment.

04 2.5D maps should employ the use of 2.5D You-Are-Here signs to make the best presentation.

Banqiao region has a rich cultural asset, for tourists is a very attractive sightseeing. Residents in the area are also actively involved in the organization to participate in the planning of living environment, according to the consensus formed by the residents of the tourist attractions of the road map. In the digital age, there is a smartphone, the use of digital resources to promote the depth of culture is the trend now. QR-code can be read as a square pattern, can be used as a bridge to convey the message. It facilitates the introduction of local culture and the connection between points and points and can be widely installed in public places. In this study, the area of Banqiao was used as an investigation site, and the tour route was established. The content and setting conditions of QR-code were defined.

study intends to understand the behavior characteristics and present situation of the tourists, and the Banqiao area, which is rich in cultural and historical relics, is the experimental site. Define QR-code settings, and guide action planning to promote re-sightseeing. At the same time, the proposal and verification of the mobile mode are carried out to increase the interaction with the residents and understand the local characteristics and experience by the tourists in the region.
