Demolition Derby Returns

Kids Bike Races

Don Barnes Archive

What is it? A half dozen or more drivers in big old cars who bash into each other until there is just one car left moving. That’s a Demolition Derby. The last one was about a generation ago. Find an old car that runs, no reinforcing the front. You take out the glass, strap in, crank her up and let it rip. Steam billowing from busted radiators, parts falling off, and mostly driving backwards is all part of winning the $500 top prize. It’s back August 26th. Start scouting around for an old heap. Lincolns and Buicks are good! We’re looking for sponsors and drivers.

4 AGE GROUPS - aGES 3 AND UP

It’s the event the kids look forward to all year, the annual bicycle races. We don’t know if any of the bikers graduated from grunting to gas engines, but we do know they all enjoy it. Just look at that smile in the 5 year old and younger group. Every kid gets a trophy and a special treat. Bring the bike and helmet, and register inside the gate. Age groups are: Up to 5; 6 to 9; 10 to 12, and 13 years and older.

Either Red’s Hat Or Red’s Face is on Sideways

A $50 gift card is given to the first car hauled off on Fletcher’s Rollback each nite.

Always a smile, Red Farmer brought a bit of fun with him to the races. Red in his F-97 Long Lewis Ford holds the record for making the field in more Snowball Derby races than any other driver. Photo from about 1973.

Broadcast: BLAB-TV alternating Monday nights at 8. Live call-in, available on our website.

Watch for Pensacola Locations to be opening soon.
