Introduction Did you know that there is only 10 hours long on Jupiter? Did you know that it takes 12 years for Jupiter to go all around the sun? If you look up in a clear night sky you will see Jupiter and if you get a telescope and look at Jupiter, it will look like an ice cream with many flavors mix together. Well, read on to find more about the amazing planet, Jupiter.
What is Jupiter?
Main Idea
! Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun, 778 million km away from Earth, and also the largest planet in the Solar System. If Jupiter is a baseball, Earth will be a nickel. Jupiter was named after the Roman leader of all gods. You can see Jupiter without a telescope because it is so big. If people ever with on Jupiter they will freeze to death after a day or so. One year on Jupiter is 12 years on Earth. Jupiter is also the second and sometimes third brightest planet in a clear night sky after the planet Mars. It is sometimes second brightest because Jupiter sometimes is brighter than Mars, but also sometimes darker than Mars. If you look at Jupiter, even from far away you will see thousands of lines, even though they looks like line they are clouds in different sizes and shape just like the clouds on Earth.
! Galileo Galilei, a Italian astronomer, he was the first man to find out all about Jupiter. He took his telescope to look at the Sun and discovered all about the planets. He looked at Jupiter he saw the four largest moons around Jupiter. Well... many people believed that a man named Giovanni Cassini was the first person to find all about the red spot, in the 1600s, but other scientists thinks that it have just formed over time. At that time he was one of the most important scientists at all times.

The Red Spot Introducing the Giant Red Spot If u look at Jupiter up close u will see a giant red spot (GRS). The red spot was created by a storm that has been raging for more than 400 years. About 100 years ago the storm covered about 40,000km of the surface in Jupiter. Now, the red spot is half of the size from when it was formed and seems to be shrinking more. It is not known how long the red spot will last or change into anther size.

Jupiter’s GRS rotates clockwise and make a full rotation every six days, but now the rotation time decreased. We still don’t know why the the red spot is red, but we do know Jupiter’s GRS is three times bigger than earth! Just think about it how big Jupiter will be? You may see Jupiter’s GRS as a subject of studying. Scientists hope that they could understand more about Jupiter’s red spot, our huge neighbor.

Another fun fact Jupiter have is that Jupiter have rings around itself just like Saturn, but Jupiter have three rings. It is really dark so you can’t see it with a ordinary telescopes. Jupiter also only have 10 hours a day and more than 1,350 earth could fit into Jupiter. Just think about it how big will Jupiter be when earth is already so huge to humans.
The gravity on Jupiter is twice as much as earth have, also Jupiter’s largest storm is twice as big as Earth. Once you think into Jupiter it looks like everything Jupiter have is always two or more times bigger than what the other planet have!
