One needs to look no further than the beauty of the Northwoods to understand why there are so many talented artists, art shows, tours, and other creative activities offered. Residents and visitors alike can find camaraderie and fun in countless creative ways.
The Manito Art League is dedicated to promoting the arts and art education in the Northwoods, and offers many opportunities for its members, student artists, and the public. Regular meetings and workshops are held from May through October, with topics such as screen printing, using alcohol inks, making paper, acrylic painting, basketry, and so much more. Everyone is welcome!
Special art events include the 58th annual Manito Art League Show, held at the Manitowish Waters Community Center in July. Featuring the work of more than 200 Northwoods artists, this juried show is always inspiring. The North Woods Art Tour, in its 24th year, offers an inside look at artists’ working studios and galleries. Visit northwoodsarttour.com.
Throughout the summer and early fall, join the Northwoods Outdoor Artists. From June through October, this group meets to paint or draw outside “en plein air” on Thursday mornings, from 8am to noon. The locations change each week, so sign up to keep posted on locations by emailing northwoodsoutdoorartists@gmail.com.
Local art galleries offer creative Northwoods gifts as well as art. Manitowish Waters features six studios/shops on Alder Lake Road.
Opportunities abound to gather, create, and celebrate art! For more information, visit manitoartleague.org.
