ARCHITECTURE IS A COMMODITY FOR EVERYDAYNESS
Architecture is no longer a metaphysical statement in daily life, nor a vocabulary extracted from various local contexts. It is just a commodity for people's activities and survival like gas, water pipes, and heaters. The architecture’s richness and frugality should correspond to the needs of everydayness, just as people use tanker to transport oil and trucks to transport sand and gravel.

01 PULP FICTION OF BEIJING Competition Project | Individual Work Instrutor: SHENG Qiang qsheng@bjtu.edu.cn Site:Beijing Summer 2017 | Rework 2019
The project based on the implementation of the policy of expelling migrants workers and reliecing non capital function of Beijing. Daily functions urgently needed in resident's life like parking, market and park are all relocated to urban traffic hub. With complex structure standing on the overpass, the possibility of migrant workers building their own houses has derived from different scales of space. This aggregation of everydayness has revealed pulp fiction of Beijing

After decades of population expansion, Beijing has more than 21 million permanent residents. Faced with the pressure of industrial transformation and environmental pollution, Beijing began to issue strict policies to control the growth of migrant population after 2015. A large number of wholesale markets and stores were closed in 2017.

Xizhimen is the most complex traffic node in the urban area of Beijing. It is a complex area where railway, subway and urban expressway converge. Thanks to Xizhimen's traffic advantages, Beijing's major clothing wholesale markets in the past few decades have been near Xizhimen.

Migrants Leaving Beijing
Resettle Migrants
The design is to resettle migrant workers driven away by the policy. They are the most lowest level of labor force in social operation, and also the most direct impact of any policy change. They devote their labor force and youth to the city, but there is no guarante jobs or arrangements when they leave the city.

Hutong is the place with the most self-organized building behaviors in Beijing. The basic pattern of Hutong was established as early as 600 years ago. In the process of urban modernization, 30% of the Hutongs in the old city have been preserved in Beijing for economic and cultural protection reasons. Because these hutongs can't be reconstructed on a large scale, the government acquiesced to all kinds of spontaneous building behaviors of residents to improve their living conditions. At present, there are fewer and fewer indigenous residents and more and more migrant workers living in Hutong.

OVERHEAD PARK
The overhead park is the green space in the center of the city's isolated island, which can provide leisure activities for migrant workers and nearby residents. It is located at the top of the small commodity market and can bring light to the market through the open atrium.
MECHANICAL PARKING TOWER
The parking tower adopts the mechanical control lifting device to park. In addition to the parking function, the interior of each floor can also be filled with selforganized buildings to meet the short-term living needs of migrant workers.
SMALL COMMODITY MARKET
Small Commodity Market is a distribution center to meet the daily needs of residents. Although the government has been shutting down the low-end market, those fancy shopping malls can not meet the needs of all citizens.

Public roads
There are regular board buildings and scattered houses with sloping roofs in the residential area. Together they are connected by roads within a group.
The buildings beside the existing road have multiple relationships with the road. They either form an open square facing the road, or cross the road through an overpass, or hang under the road.
Standing in the Xizhimen with complex traffic, the parking tower full of self-organized buildings and disorderly buildings eventually becomes the landmark of the city. This not only marks the victory of migrant workers, but also marks the victory of daily living space. Policies may hide the clutter in the city for a while, but they will never hide the complex everydayness.
02 QINGHE EXPRESS
Acdemic Project | Collaborate with LU Yiming 2018 Instrutor: SHENG Qiang qsheng@bjtu.edu.cn Site: Beijing IIndividually Rework 2019 The project is located in Beijing's High-tech Zone with complex surrounding environment. The block on the left is the location of the headquarters of many well-known high-tech enterprises, and there are a large number of residential areas on the right. There are expressways, light railways and railways passing through the site at the same time. The high-speed railway station will not only connect the site of 2020 Winter Olympic Games, but also become a express for local's lives
M
Qinghe is a rapidly developing area in Beijing since 2000, and it also has very convenient transportation resources. However, these traffic resources in the site have caused the separation of function and texture. At present, the left side of the plot is full of business office, the right side is residential, and the commercial distribution is uneven. The new high-speed railway station tries to solve this problem rather than intensify the trend of division.

The high-speed railway station finally connected the two sides of the base at different elevations and scales. Light rail, high-speed rail and cars will all travel around its smooth volume. It will not only connect the Qinghe and the inner city, but also connect the site with dynamic volume and circulation. On the other hand, it will also become a landmark of Qinghes' Internet enterprises, marking the innovation potential and vitality of the site.
FOLDING COMMUNITY Graduation Project | Individual Work Instrutor: WANG Xin Site: Beijing Summer 2019 The design is located in a typical residential area built in the 1980s in Beijing. With the development of the city, the accessibility of the community road is cut off by the urban expressway. The residents' life needs need to cross an overpass to meet. The design focuses on unifying the existing overpass, subway station and various existing activities in the site.

EVERYDAYNESS
Vegetable in Corridor
The site can be regarded as the boundary of the community or the center of the surrounding traffic. Many activities of residents are carried out on the road around the site. This reflects the lack of public space in the community. The design attempts to use the form of folding to meet the needs of both traffic and activities at the same site.

The vegetables in the corridor are mainly spices, and the planting methods and crop varieties will be adjusted according to different public spaces. In the morning market, all kinds of fresh food are sold, and each peddler will set up a stall according to the original parking lot dividing line on the roadside.

The project eventually becomes a community center around agricultural production. Community renewal needs to rely on the inherent community activities in the community as the carrier to organize the residents spontaneously. The community center can serve as a platform and carrier for residents' activities, and continue to provide residents with space for autonomous activities. In this process, residents who master planting skills will drive new residents to carry out planting activities.
A large number of spaces are designed for residents’ self-organization. In these constructions and exchanges, residents can establish a sense of belonging to the community and a sense of participation in public affairs. Finally, everyone will eny the happiness of urban agriculture and maintain the operation of community center under the sustainable sales of morning market and food bar.

Exterior(2017): Role:Resident Architect, Construction Design, Shematic Design Collaborators:PAN XI, LIU Yayun. Interior(2018): Role:Principal Architect, School Team Leader Collaborators: LU Shun, SHEN Chenhao The project is located in the mountainous area in the north of Beijing, which is the water source of Beijing. The abandoned Primary School of the village and the adjacent stage are renovated in the design, making it a public activity space for villagers and an environmental education center for college students and volunteers. From 2017 to now, the construction of the project has helped villagers to reorganize their everydayness under the impact of urbanization.

The inspiration of the installation comes from the opening and closing of the umbrella. We set up an interactive behavior installation by imitating the umbrella frame. People can step on the pedal to lift the overhead umbrella frame several times as high as their feet and make a sound.
The installation magnifies the trampling behavior through the principle of fixed pulley. The setting of three groups of fixed pulley makes the lifting height of the installation six times of human behavior. The lifting node given in the installation is also solved by pulley block.
