Yih-Han WU (b.1982)

她的展出經歷包括 I SEE YOU, 臺中 (2019)、Takeda Art Co., Tokyo (2015)、 高雄駁二藝術特區, 高雄 (2015)、YOSHIAKI INOUE GALLERY, Osaka (2014)、 KunstPavillio, 慕尼黑 (2012)。

Yih-Han WU (b.1982)

Yih-Han WU was born in Stuttgart, Germany, graduated from National Taipei University of the Arts and Akademie der Bildenden Künste München. She lives and works in Taiwan.

After living in Germany for a long time, WU has adopted influences from the Renaissance of the North and the style of Flemish paintings, but she aims to contemplate how she’ve learned from art history rather than renouncing the hisotry and language. WU believes techniques in painting is like rhetoric. There are several materials and techniques could be delved into. There are also multiple ways of representations to interpret the contents and the objects with diversity and similarity. The outcome could be drastically different but with an identical intension.

As a feminist, WU rejects to be called and classified as a female artist because she is not only concerned about gender issues, but also cares about matters relate to humans, society, equality, environment, and more. For her, painting is a tool of conveyance that allows her to narrate, to condemn and to satirize. She believes justice will never be served when gender is addressed in front any profession. This became the heart of her works.

Selected exhibition include I SEE YOU, Taichung (2019), Takeda Art Co., Tokyo (2015), The Pier2 Art Center, Kaohsiung (2015), YOSHIAKI INOUE GALLERY, Osaka (2014), KunstPavillio, Munich (2012).
