industryscoop. Hubb wins again. With Winny, Mike and Tamega eliminated in the quarterfinals, the ‘09 IBA World Title had been won by Hubb before the final event at El Confital had been decided. Jeff has been a dominating force in the past few years; successive world titles and an envied versatility in waves of all shapes and sizes seems to have paid dividends yet again. After a blistering day of waves on the penultimate day of competition, it’s a shame the finals were held in small one-to-two foot conditions. Alas the consequences of being at the mercy of mother nature! Congratulations to the 2009 World Champion Jeff Hubbard!

News from the Nomads. Chris James has reportedly picked up a new horse-powered toy and has been sighted zooming ’round Newcastle’s bars and reef patches with co-owner Chris Wilson. In nonrelated news, Matthew Lackey has finally earned himself a driver’s license at a sprightly 28 years of age – congrats. Perhaps Duranbah's favourite son will finally fly the nest... No chance.

Plastic People now set up in Oz. For the first time since it’s inception six years ago, Plastic People is now being manufactured in Australia. All designs are still by crafted by the hand of the man himself, Chuck Guarino (in his New York City loft), but are printed and distributed from a slick new office in the heart of Sydney city. Plastic People have also recruited some fresh new Aussie talent for their team - South Coast ripper Matty Young, Port Mac’s Sam Bennett, Goldie Shredder Nick Gornall and Cronulla’s Alex Leon. The deckedout dudes are now looked after by new Australian Sales Manager Tim Boreham and join existing pile members Botha, T. Player, D. Hubb, Murphy, Arent-Highfield, S. Ormerod, Emberg, Crowley and Strachan. Check out some their filthy-good gear at: www.plasticpeople.com.au

New soldier recruited for Summerset’s new range. It’s been confirmed that the Sunny Coast’s Nick Rubesaame is now being buffedout by Summerset clothing co. The hard-working fellas behind the new summer range should be stoked ’cause the designs look sick! Escape the December heat wave by shelving your favourite flannelette and wow ze women with a fresh Summerset design. Maybe. For closer inspection of the aforementioned clothing visit: www.myspace.com/ summersetclothing. Last but not least, teammates Shaun Pyne and Stevie Middlemiss have been kickin’ at home surfing and the like, while Adam Luehman has been busy shooting for an undisclosed video project.

Unite Turns Five. Unite is celebrating its fifth anniversary in fine style with the most comprehensive Unite collection yet. The new range includes tee shirts, walk shorts, denim, board shorts, rash shirts, headwear, backpacks and accessories. All are available at all authorised Unite dealers. Click here to check out the summer range. Go to contents.

Flipmode signs Donnachie The FLIPMODE crew are pleased to announce the signing of 2009 Shark Island Challenge victor, Ewan Donnachie. Ewan’s the first rider to be signed on the label and both brand and boy couldn’t be happier. “I’m stoked to be representing a brand that has the right intentions at heart,” said Donnachie. “FLIPMODE is as passionate about bodyboarding as I am. They’re all easy-going, humble people with sick ideas in the pipeline.

When they showed me the proposed range for summer, I frothed. When they offered me an opportunity to get creative and design my own shirt, I couldn’t say no.” Flipmode’s 2009/2010 summer range is about to drop - keep an eye out midDecember for new designs, colours and the Ewan collaboration tee!

Injury bin. Unite rider Tommy Smith recently struck a little good fortune in a most unfortunate way. While riding home from Coles at Miami (on the Gold Coast) with groceries in-hand, Tom was struck on his arm by a steel rod which fell four stories from a construction site above. “If it landed on my head you wouldn’t be talking to me today,” said Smith. It’s reported that matters will be taken further in the court of law as it’s alleged the construction company had not met safety regulations. We wish Tom a speedy recovery and hope the injury doesn’t get in the way of his Hawaii preparation. New 4play Website. The new 4play website is just as much fun as smashing toads with your golf club. It features all new rider profiles and last issue’s cover boy Dallas Singer. Breaking team news feeds and everything you’d need to know about 4play’s 2009/2010 board range can be found here www.4play.com.au.

This time ‘round we’ve employed the penmanship of Perth’s talented natural-footer Kim Feast. The ever-enthused WA boy was more than keen to tender his thoughts and theories on the fine art we provided him; even stripping down one of Roach’s famous frontside belts to its bare essentials. Take note and tear into it.

“Mandurah wedge is such a hard wav out there this year e to DK. I spent a trying to actively le fair bit of time arn the wave - how without being over to ride it so I could taken, and not to ca make sections rry too much speed into the section. I’ m not going to lie about this sequen ce either; I chucke d my board away after sh ot four, as I was ca rrying a bit of a groin injury from a floater attem pt in a previous session. In hindsight, I really wish I didn’t, because I w as absolutely flying , drove off this thing and to ok no spray with m e. Pic one, he is poised. Check where he is looking: straight at the section he wants to dismantle. He has put himself just under the lip with his weight slightly over his knee. Note his hand placement and the fact that he isn’t leaning back too much. He is pretty central over his knee even though he is almost side-on. Pic two, he has released his tail up over the section, but he is also keeping his centre of gravity pretty stationary, still distributing force down through his knee. Note that he has lifted his inside arm up to maintain stability while he's twisting around.

fiv e.

Pic three, he has now released the badger and is looking away from the section and his blast; focusing on where he is going to ride out. His outside arm, which now looks like it’s the inside, is now higher which keeps that ol’ centre of gravity stationary. It’s too tempting to lean back a little, or have you weight too forward, which makes you either throw your board away from yourself too much, or over rotate too early. Pics four to five, he is riding down without leaning back too much. Run this sequence over-andover again and it will etch itself into your brain for the next time that you have a section like this. t eas F m Ki by

Only slightly varying degrees of athleticism and power separate good bodyboarding and great bodyboarding these days. Precontest preparation, once upon a time, would consist of a round at the local pub and a quick stretch before the heat, but now it’s not uncommon for the best athletes to begin prepping their bodies and minds weeks prior to big events. This issue's breakdown, with the help of C.H.E.K (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) guru Scott Rigby, we’ll be piecing together a few pre-surf stretches to open up the major muscle groups in your “flexor chain”. Every twist, turn and move you make in the water extends and rotates your back and abdomen. The stretches provided will help to sedate this chain, which in turn will keep muscles acute and explosive for those inverts, flips and spins that we love.

Step oneď‚„ Set your legs at a 90-degree angle (as pictured) and place your hands on the ground behind for support.

Step twoď‚„ Tip your pelvis forward and stick your ass out. At this stage you should be able to feel an extended curve in your lower back. Lift your chest and head up as you rock slowly forward over the front leg. Hold this for position for 20 seconds to aptly stretch the glute and external hip rotators.

The Pec Minor.

Step one Place your forearm on the board and line your body up parallel so your back is straight and your arms are making a right angle.

Step two As you drop your upper body downward, allow your shoulder blade to move toward your spine.

The Groin Rock.

Step one Spread your knees as far out as you can. Rock forward, breathing in and squeezing your knees into the ground for five seconds. Exhale and relax as you sink into the stretch. Go to contents.

Step three Inhale and press your shoulder down towards the floorboards or sand for five seconds. Exhale and lower into the stretch to keep neutral spine.

Step two Rock back and use the same contraction and relaxation method as before. Repeat.

for flattesr. spin

Step one Use the dropknee position and set your front shin vertical on the ground. Lean forwards as your grip tight on your ankle. Place your remaining hand on the opposing knee and try retaining your balance.

Step two Rise upward slowly. Draw your belly button in toward your spine and roll your pelvis under so that your back flattens to increase the pull of the stretch.

Step one Set up so that your thighs are vertical and your arms meet their sockets to make a triangular shape.

Step two When you lower yourself toward the board try keeping a neutral spine; your upper back should reverse its curve and stretch significantly. Be gentle and move with ease. Don’t let your head drop, as this could spell problems for your neck.

“During the winter months the water’s damn cold and 4:3 steamers are a must. The weather patterns change and the offshore winds stay longer, but they’re better suited to different set-ups than that of summer. In summer the water’s warm enough so springies and long-arm combos are possible. It can be extremely hot, with frequent 40-degree heatwaves. Along the desert stretch of coast the temperature can drop exceedingly quickly on sundown – to the point where you’re literally freezing ’round the campsite. On a trip with Matt McArthur and Chris James a few years back, we endured a crazy heatwave whilst camping on the Eyre Peninsula. The local weather station was recording 40-degree temperatures in the shade for four days. Surfing in the full sun was out of control. Griz lost six kilos in two days.” – Jem C. rider | chris james pic | jem cresswell

“One of the misconceptions of South Australia is that the waves are close to Adelaide. Adelaide is in a large gulf and the only waves that come through are powerless wind swells - this probably explains the small number of surfers in SA. There are four different coasts to surf in South Australia that all have epic waves on their day. There’s the Limestone Coast leading from Robe up to the Victorian border, which is a lesser-surfed coast, but has some quality set-ups. The southern Fleurieu Peninsula, only an hour from Adelaide, is home to the infamous Knights Beach Wedge. This is more frequented by city surfers. Then there’s the Yorke Peninsula, about 3.5 hours from Adelaide, and one of the most surfed regions of South Australia. Most surfers head to Innes National Park at the tip of the Peninsula where breaks like ‘West Cape’ are frequented by bodyboarders, and ‘China-mans’ by standups. And last is the Eyre Peninsula, which spans more than 2000 kilometres until it hits the cliffs of the SA/WA border. “Chris James knows this coastline as well as many locals, and saw a swell on the charts with favourable winds for four days straight. He’d made the call to go down with Thomas Robinson and Alex Bunting, who were busy working with Todd Barnes for his latest video project. They couldn’t find a ‘still’ photographer and after calling 17 others they finally decided to give me a yell. I wasn’t too offended haha. By nightfall of the next day I’d arrived at the wave called ‘Monnies’, a right-hand wedging reef set-up. In the dark we could see plumes of white water exploding that showed signs of size. We all slept in varying degrees of discomfort on the freezing cold desert floor. In the predawn light we woke to see flawless offshore wedging perfection. South Australia’s funny, even with perfect waves, that early morning light makes the water feel even sharkier. Hyping the fellas for an early was harder than I thought. They had a good excuse though – the sun needs to be very high in the sky, as to sneak over the high cliffs and light up our stage for the day. Monnies pumped all day with perfect offshore winds. Only Bunts, Thomas, Griz and Mike Honeybone were there to share in the spoils. I was still trying to get my head around shooting in the water, but couldn’t get the shark stories out of my mind. I think Todd and I were on the same page because I threw a few rocks over to where he was shooting from to get his attention, and gestured ‘Swimming’, to which he gestured, ‘Fuck no’. “After our first surf at Monnies we headed to check into our accommodation. This part of Oz is very remote, with nothing for 100s of miles either way. Our only option was this little truck stop come petrol station joint, which looked more like the set for Wolf Creek. It was even funnier when we finally met the owner, THE GUY FROM WOLF CREEK! He took one look at me and started mouthing off. Words can’t do it justice, but here goes, “Thought I told you guys we don’t let coons stay here!” He was looking right at me shaking his head (I’m white by the way). He kept carrying on about how they don’t let boongs stay. It was crazy! We all laughed it off while I persisted to convince the guy that I wasn’t black! The next arvo we returned to ‘Monnies’ and it was still cooking. For some reason Todd and I decided to shoot water and mix up our coverage. Big mistake. As soon as we got out there it picked up and was almost maxing-out. Our session came to an abrupt end as Todd and I perilously made our way in across the reef. There was so much water moving on and off the reef that we were both almost sucked past the keyhole. Shooting from a board with a heavy video housing is awkward on an easy day, so Todd had a really hard time and was quite shaken by the ordeal. Back atop the cliffs, Toinz had arrived with Winny, Novy and BP. The boys were frothing to get wet following a failed mission in Bali and the long drive from Adelaide. We warned them about the surging swell, but they went out anyway and put on a serious show. The whole time the waves just pumped and none of the wild shit we’d just dealt with happened to them. Damn it! It was a real good bodyboarding display, and Winny was the standout for sure.” – Lee Kelly. rider | dave winchester pic | lee kelly

“That night we sat around the bar at Wolf Creek and the owner wouldn’t serve me a beer. “I know what you Abbos get like on the drink,” he would say. Even when Bunts or Griz would order a beer he would ask them if it was for me or not. I’M BLOODY WHITE MATE! He cracked the fellas up big-time when I was over the road up a tree trying to get mobile reception. He said, “Bet I could shot that little black c@#t from here with my crossbow”. I couldn’t believe Todd actually challenged him, saying, “Bet you couldn’t!” On our final morning we arrived to a pictureperfect beach with a high cliff wall and patch of reef just off the sand. The tide was seriously too low to surf safely, but we went for it anyway. Our team had

the first session; Toinz shot land while Todd and I got wet again. When the sets came in we’d be yelling at the guys to go, but once they did the water would all drain off the uneven reef; leaving us floundering around, unable to move with our fat guts stuck on the reef! And then it was Toinzy’s turn to shoot water. Of course, the minute he gets out there the waves start pumping, with more and more water flooding the reef. As I watched, he hooked up time and time again, while I knew I got nothing. I loved watching a professional at work though, and everyone got at least one keeper from that session.” – Lee Kelly.

“Through the Eyre Peninsula there’s are a large indigenous population. For me, they’re the true essence of home. They’re my ancestors and the people of the land, and they love nothing more than to share amazing times and stories with traveling tourists. The people you meet in the ocean are the hardcore soul surfers of Australia. Most guys are, or have been, professional fisherman and have great understanding and knowledge of our weather patterns, rivers, reefs and bombies. It’s an amazing place. Where else can you take a dusty desert road that weaves through the scrublands, and pull up to an empty car park with crisp offshore breezes and a clean fourfeet of swell? You know those swells have marched across the southern ocean just to meet that shallow, well-shaped chunk of reef and unload. It’s perfection!” – Matt McArthur. rider | matt mcarthur pic | jem cresswell

“Joe's one of those people who stand out from the crowd, and not just because of his heavily bleached hair. Considering how long I’ve been shooting Blackrock I’m surprised how little I have experimented with this angle. To fill the foreground with the infamous “waterfall” you need a really low tide so you can creep right out on the end ledge. I love the challenge of trying to capture a fresh angle of such an overexposed wave. Even with the unusually low tide I still wandered further out into the water to get the angle I wanted. What I like most about this shot is that it shows how shallow the bowl can get, albeit no deterrence for a devoted rider like Joe.”

“It had been quite some time since the Reef had been good, but I knew there was no sand on it and the conditions couldn’t have looked much better for this day. I left let work the night prior knowing I wouldn’t be there ’til mid-morning the next day. It was hard work trying to stay in position, but I felt the risk was worth it when this wave came through. Nick was sitting out a little further than the rest of the pack, mainly made up of a couple of local surfers, his brother Simon, Rob Laurie and Leif Emberg. He was able to get onto this one early; saving himself from dropping. Nicko pushed himself as deep as possible, eyed off the exit and raced through its inners until it blew him out cleanly. It was undoubtedly the barrel of the day.”

“It’s true, time passes quicker the older you are. But we still manage to get our froth on, especially for this little patch of reef. It’d been near two years since I’d seen this place break and Matt hadn’t seen it much better. It’s the sorta place where you wanna know it’s cranking before spending hours in a car, as it’s one fickle sucker. So it only sweetened the deal when one Sunday afternoon, after dust storms and bushfires making national headlines, we see a faint blip on the radar. Ben Cahill and I spent seven hours in the car to get there and we arrived to see it breaking like we do in our dreams. No one is around, and we’ve scored it big time. The only problem we had is when you’re both photogs, one of you has to surf. After two hours of draining pits you couldn’t wipe the smiles from our faces. That one afternoon brought it all back into perspective. Yes, we have less time for the things we really enjoy these days, but when we score like the ol’ times it’s still just as sweet.”

"This is actually my favourite photo from all the Mitchell's wedge sessions that went down during early '09. The fact that it's taken this long for it to be picked up for use is a little bit surprising, it's a cracker of Chad. I guess a lot of the time what you may think is the best shot from a session mightn't resonate in the eyes of a mag editor or prospective advertiser's eyes. For whatever reason, the image didn't suit editorial or advertising content in the bodyboarding media 'til now and it's gratifying to see it used. From memory it'll be the only water image of mine published from the Mitchell's wedge sessions. At least there's some reward for swimming out there, 'cause it sure as hell ain't easy."

I used to hear songs about love and heartache, or people being happy or sad about a girl. I had no comprehension or understanding of why the hell anyone would care or bother. I now understand what all those people were on about. I was also lucky to have one of those mutual breakups.

tackling big waves.

The fellas at 71 have asked me to discuss the fundamentals of tackling solid waves. Although this is a current strength of my surfing, I would never say it’s always been the case. Nor is it indicative of personal attributes; I’m no crazy stuntman with a thirst for blood, or high a pain threshold. I was fortunate to grow up surfing consequential waves (especially reefs) and have developed a level of confidence over the years, such that I now enjoy challenging myself by surfing bigger and heavier breaks. Ask anyone

known for their performances in crazy conditions – Brad Hughes, Brendan Newton, Ryan Hardy, Alex Bunting – what the secret is, and chances are, they’ll all tell you the same thing: practice.

hie.

ewan pushing it to the limit at lunas. pic | mitch nibbs

It’s about exposing yourself to the conditions; stepping outside your comfort zone. Essentially, rehearsal is key. However, here are a few specifics that may assist in your attempts at tackling big waves.

71_MASTER CLASS.

ewa

tackling big waves.

Drawing Lines. Once again, practice is gunna see you lock into a bomb and ride it well. Not only will you have more experience in heavy situations; using your legs to scoop; drawing a line appropriate to the shape and strength of the barrel, but you will also understand how that particular wave breaks. At Shipsterns, you want the biggest, blackest line of water you can find. However, if you take off too far on the shoulder, you’ll get caught at the top of the step and basically fall to your doom. Conversely, if you look for a wave with heaps of wall, wrapping hard on the reef at Supers, it’s almost guaranteed to closeout, and you’ll suffer a similar fate. Prior knowledge of the wave itself is key to drawing lines! portrait | alex marks

wandonnachie. Training. Cardio fitness and swimming ability are two important aspects of training for big waves. Swimming is fantastic aerobic and anaerobic exercise (provided you mix up your training with both sprints and endurance; hence you’re kinda killing two birds with one stone). Free diving and spearfishing are other great ways of building lung capacity and overall water confidence; without the tedium of stroking up and down a pool for hours. Gear. From personal experience, a board combination of good flex, a fairly narrow, straight template, crescent tail and channels is going to be the best option for big waves as it provides the most control. Preparing to get flogged. RELAX, RELAX, AND RELAX! So much easier said than done, I know, but if you can be conscious of the fact remaining calm will ensure conservation of oxygen and less likelihood of injury. Fighting and panicking will leave you out of breath, distressed and unwilling to have another crack.

Reflection. Hindsight is a beautiful thing and often helps you reveal where you went wrong, or where you can improve. Watching footage of your big-wave surfing is no different to analysing small-wave sessions. You can see for yourself why you should’ve done a more drawn-out bottom turn on that one to avoid the step, how holding a straighter line on this one would’ve stopped you getting stuck up the face and over the falls; even the way in which a more experienced rider scooped with his legs and made the barrel with ease. Reading the maps and reports: Try to be on the ball with charts, approaching swells, accompanying conditions and the right combination of all these factors for certain spots to crank. It will, by no means, guarantee an improvement in your big wave surfing, just the opportunity to improve. As I said earlier, practice is essential. However, breaks that functionally handle big, powerful waves aren’t around every corner and are often fairly inconsistent. Hence, a good knowledge of charts will enable you to maximise ideal conditions and practice as much as possible.

Success on the IBA Australasian tour is still the pinnacle of achievement for the aspiring bodyboarder in Oz. The crown is one of the most sought after titles in the sport and it’s no surprise that World Tour riders Dave Winchester, Mitch Rawlins, Ryan Hardy and Dallas Singer continue to make competing on the Aussie tour one of their

highest priorities. Coming from what is arguably the most talent-rich pool of bodyboarders on the planet, the caliber of competition on the tour isn’t far short of world-class. Courtesy of some serious backing from big-name sponsors and a tour calendar that took seven competitions across five Australian states, the profile of the tour reached new heights

mmer I met Matt Withaar ainst some of the top riders g second in the men’s Pro our travels to Puerto ths together sharing plenty in the US, so I took the gh out the US and Mexico.

Hometown, D.O.B and where you've been riding recently? I've been surfing New York the past couple days. We got an awesome swell here for three days straight - sixfoot, offshore, dredging, but mega cold. You need gloves and head gear otherwise you'll duck dive four waves and want to go in; trust me I tried it. You competed against Jeff Hubbard and Jacob Romero on the USBA Tour. What's it like for an Aussie to compete in the states against these guys? Well, Jeff's my favourite rider and I knew how good he surfs. Jacob surfs super good with an awesome flip on him. These guys flew straight off a World Tour leg straight into the Jenks Pro, so I knew they had their hats comp on! How good are the US riders vs. Aussie riders? Yeah, there are shredders here definitely, like Brian Stoehr and Chris Schlegel, those dudes shred hard. Then there are the groms,

who travel all over the states just to surf in the comps that shred and have their froth on just like OZ. It’s awesome to see, it just seems like there are more boogers in OZ, especially the Gold Coast.

of places I've surfed in the states have been super peaky, and I was expecting very slow, fat waves with no push. I was shocked because this place has fun waves!

ozi in the usa. they travel around the US for comps, including Hawaii. It's awesome to see the next generation are still loving it and are keener than, or just as keen as the last.

After the USBA Tour we both headed down to Puerto Escondido. How long did you spend down there and where was your favourite beachie? I spent a

month down there. I really liked surfing a place called Punta Colorada, which was super fun and wedgy with little crowds. This is where I spent a lot of my time, it was so much fun! Puerto was awesome, but I had a few problems picking the good ones.

How was the bodyboarding scene in Mex compared to oz? The scene there was good. There were riders from France, Israel, Portugal, Australia, Hawaii and America. It’s awesome because you realise it's such a good sport. There are so many people out there giving it their best and pulling into crazy ones.

Any crazy stories from Mex? There are too many. I went to

a rodeo and they let you go in the ring with two bulls in there, crazy shit. Also, someone got shot and I nearly got robbed. There will always be bad times, but the good generally outweigh the bad.

Next destination: Well, I'm supposed to meet up with Jason Bitzer in Hawaii and get a few, but I might visit Canada and do a bit of snowboarding first.

I've been using a 41.75" bat for the contests I've entered, and the rest of the time I was riding a 41" crescent.

Bodyboarding influences: Hubb and Ben, you just can’t go past I know you're a seal trainer those two. back home at Sea World, what advice would can you tell us a bit about your job and do you plan on you give other riders thinking of going to going back to it once you the us to compete? Do it for return? Yeah, eventually my plans are to go back to work with animals, but sure, it's so fun. I met so many cool I'm just not sure where. I would love to people and there's a bit of coin up for work in any marine park that is near the grabs too, which is always good for beach. I think the USA is a cool place travelling. and there's so much to do all the time.

worldTOUR. An interview with the champ. By Michelle Rozzen. portrait | michelle rozzen.

While our Aussie World Title contenders aimed for the stars at the IBA’s final calendar event,The El Confital Pro, Hawaii’s high-flying Jeff Hubbard proved just too strong. Lips cracked from days of heats, sun and surf, Hubb deservedly sipped bubbly from the cup of his second title – finishing above Winchester, Hardy, Stewart and Tamega respectively – in what was arguably the most hotly contested event in recent bodyboarding history. Following his win, 71’s roving US journo Michelle Rozzen quickly caught up with the man of the hour for a short, hot minute. The following interview took place: Hey Jeff, massive congratulations to you on your second IBA World Title! How stoked are you at this point in time? I’m beyond stoked! Permanent grin-style.

Your heat with Ben Player seemed hectic; care to take us through it? That was the best heat of the event. It seemed Ben and I surfed the waves as well as possible. I wish I had caught more waves though.

Who do you think was your biggest threat at How do you mentally Confital? prepare yourself for a possible title when Ben was on fire in our heat. Who’s your biggest threat next year? The level of surfing on the tour is reaching phenomenal heights and the talent stretches far and wide. Anyone is a threat. Of course, BP, Winny, GT, Hardy, Rocky, PLC, Mike and Dub will always be heavy hitters to draw in a heat. You got such a unique style; do you believe that gives you an advantage with the judges? Ha! No, not really. I seem to get underscored more often than over-scored, so it seems to be a disadvantage if anything. Go to contents.

Your scorecard from the whole year was quite impressive. You won at Peru, Sintra and snatched the title. What’s your drive and motivation to be the best you can be? I just love bodyboarding and I want to push myself and the sport as far as possible! How do you stay focused on tour while juggling school, your personal life and family? Staying focused on the road is hard, but my wife Heather is super supportive and I would not be
