SINGAPORE KAMPONG GLAM
Being one of the oldest regions in Singapore, Kampong Glam is a centre of Islamic and Malay cultures. Its history can be traced back to the colonial time. Today, Kampong Glam is also a famous tourist attraction to foreigners due to its unique cultural elements. Understanding the value of these culture and historical elements, the government has proposed policy to retain the old building, which was however limited. The buildings were allocated for modern commercial uses. The other elements and events used to be in those buildings were not retained along with the building. Without intentional and proper effort to conserve those elements of Kampong Glam, which are an important part of the imagery of the past, they will inevitably fade away and lost in the course of progress of the fast-changing Singapore.

SOCIAL IDENTITY
With the issue identified, a community museum is proposed for Kampong Glam. It will further the government’s effort in heritage conservation by housing historical items and recreating interior scenes of the heritage architecture, which allows for physical interaction with the viewer. Meanwhile, it will also offer space to showcase and incubate the community art project on ongoing issues and future speculation relevant to the community. It will be a place where people come together to learn about their past, to gain awareness of and engage with the present, to imagine and draft their future, which facilitate the forging of social identity.

SITE
SINGAPORE BISHAN PARK
Bishan Park is among the largest parks in the central region of Singapore, covering 62 hectares and spanning 3km. Due to the initiation of the Active, Beautiful and Clean Waters (ABC) Programme by PUB, the concrete surfacing the canal was removed and replaced with soil and vegetation, which has since turned the canal into an attractive water feature accessible by park visitors. This and the addition of other features, such as the Pond Gardens, have greatly altered the landscape of the park, making it a very popular site of recreation for park visitors. The modified river banks have a gentle slope beautified by plants, which become a perfect spot for people to gather and bond while enjoining the visually pleasing scenery. The large area of park has also accommodated a wide variety of plants, insects and other natural species, and is therefore ideal for close contact with nature. The special character of the Bishan Park implies its potential to give rise to a unique design of the architecture of death if it were to be built here.

The architecture of death has long been feared by the general public as pollutive and hence expelled from most of community area and driven to the remote industrial zones of the city. However, the death and departure of our loved ones is an important moment which most of the general public will go through; it is solemn moment when people send off the loved ones with gratitude for their contribution and respect. To change the perception of the public towards the architecture of death the importance and solemnity of the journey of sending off the loved ones, Bishan Funeral Complex was proposed. It aims to create a peaceful, secure and green environment within the lively dynamic Bishan Park for the users of the complex to send off their loved ones. Meanwhile, it also aims to change the mindset about columbarium as a place for paying respect and remembrance of their contribution by the integration of the archive of family tree as the complementary use.

JURONG EAST NURSING HOME 57
SITE
SINGAPORE JURONG EAST TOWN
In 2018, it has been widely known that Singapore Land Authority will retrieve the land of Jurong Golf Club for the construction of Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) Terminal in future. The HSR proposed under the collaboration of the two countries is expected to shorten the time of travel between the two cities to 90 minutes and with the possibility to join the HSR networks of BRI, it will establish Singapore as an important node in the continent of Asia. The Jurong East Town has since become one of the major redevelopment focuses by URA and would be very likely to be the designated to be the second CBD of Singapore. The possibility of redevelopment has offered a chance to approach CBD urban planning in a different way and simultaneously resolve other urban issues facing Singapore. Unlike the existing CBD which was designed with a strong focus to encourage commercial activities, facilitate the tertiary industries (particularly the financial sector) and boost economic growth, the new proposed CBD will have a significant focus on addressing the inadequacies of necessary elements to good quality of living.

ELDERLY CARE GROUP
Singapore, facing a rapidly aging population, is now challenged by a considerable shortage of nurses. This project aims to reconceptualize the way of elderly nursing in response to the issue. Currently, in Singapore, the nursing of elderly is conducted solely by trained professionals. However, due to heavy workload and relatively low payment in return, the rate of nurse quitting has been high. Hence to resolve the issue, there needs to be an alternative to increase manpower to conduct nursing. Based on the case study of the Humanitas Retirement Home in Netherlands, where 6 undergraduates were introduced into a community of 160 elderly and thereafter greatly changed the dynamic of the community as well as improve the well-being of the elderly, the practicality of introducing undergraduates to assist nursing looks promising. Hence, this new nursing home is proposed, where under the lead of a small number of nurses, undergraduates are involved in care giving to the elderly in return for their dwelling. As a new way of nursing, this model will not only solve the shortage of nursing but also improving the life of elderly.
