Ghost Walks Events, vigils & short breaks Derby Ghost Breaks at Derby Gaol The Derby Gaol has featured twice on Living TV’s, Most Haunted. Built in 1756, The Gaol was the scene of torment, torture, executions and all round death. It is not surprising the building is riddled with ghosts. The night consists of séances, table tipping, glass divination and Ouija board sessions, plus other paranormal experiments. £45 per person including evening meal and continental breakfast. (Available Friday and Saturday nights, 9pm-4am).

Derby is officially the most haunted city in Great Britain

Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe, August, 2008

With over 315 sightings of ghosts in the City Centre, it is no wonder that Derby is fondly known as ‘The Dead Centre of England’. The Derby Ghost Walk was launched by Richard Felix, former historian on Living TV’s ‘Most Haunted’ in 1993 and is now run by his son, Edd. Our aim is that you are entertained and have fun with a few frights along the way! Parts of the walk may not be suitable for young children.

ost Walks

There is a choice of two ghost walks – the Derby City Centre Walk and the Friar Gate (Derby Gaol) walk:

Derby City Centre Ghost Walk Explore haunted pubs and dank, dark tunnels in your search for Derby ghosts. You will start your walk from the atmospheric Shakespeare Pub, taking in The Tiger and Jorrocks of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame along the route. A trip into the much haunted tunnels of the Guildhall completes this chilling experience; although one or two surprises may still be in store as you enjoy a candlelit supper at the Haus restaurant. The walk links the ghosts and history of Derby, as the two go hand in hand. £21 per person, £18 OAPs, under 16s and students. (Available Monday to Thursday nights, 7pm-10pm)

Friar Gate (Derby Gaol) Ghost Walk Starting and finishing at The Derby Gaol (Best Paranormal Venue in Great Britain Winner, Spiritual Connexions Awards, 2008). This walk includes bloodcurdling stories of horrific murders, executions and all things crime and punishment. Visit the Old Friary’s cellars, haunted by a black monk before returning to the Gaol, where you can enjoy a Condemned Man’s Supper, before being allowed home, unlike so many before you. £21 per person, £18 OAPs, under 16s and students. (Available any night, subject to availability, 7pm-10pm)
