II. REPORT SYNOPSIS Animals are required to be provided with nutritional feedstock to keep them healthy and facilitate them to grow to their optimum level. The nutritional standard of an animal plays a pivotal role in achieving the expected growth standards. The main content of the nutritional feedstock includes ingredients like wheat, maize and soybean meal. These ingredients alone cannot guarantee a 100% growth for the animal. If the animals are only fed on these ingredients they would fall deficient in some other essential nutrients. In the modern high tech farming, the nutritional requirements of the animals are well understood and the requirements are achieved by using direct dietary supplementation in concentrated form. Certain feed additives are introduced into the animal by injection or implantation. These include hormones, antibiotics, Yeast etc. Global Feed Additives market is projected to reach about US$ XX.XX billion by 2020 from US$ XX.XX billion in 2012, registering a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of XX.XX % during the period 2005-2020. Nucleotides as Food Additives Milk powder containing nucleotides as additives would enhance the development of infant’s gastrointestinal tract and immunological functions of intestinal cells in order to acquire resistance against bacterial infections. Nucleotides when added in functional foods results in improved immunity, extended life, delay ageing etc. Moreover Nucleotides are widely used as flavoring and seasoning agents in food industries.
Nucleotides as Feed Additives Nucleotides as feed additive could enhance the feed rate of pigs, increase laying rate of chicken and helps to grow and reproduce among fishes and other aquatic animals. Nucleotides are non toxic and harmless hence they are used as a feed additive. Feed Nucleotides main function is to improve immunity and gastrointestinal functions in animals.
Nucleotides as Drug Intermediates Drug intermediates are chemical substances synthesized at the first phase and are used in the second phase. Degradation of RNA results in nucleotides, nucleosides and nucleic acid bases. These degradation products and their derivatives play a major role in the field of antivirus and anti- tumors. The degradation products are extensively used for the treatment of hepatitis, angiocardiopathy, coronary heart disease, leukocytopenia, gastritis, cerebral concussion, rheumatoid arthritis, etc

Feed Nucleotides-Overview The basic building blocks of life are included in nucleotides. Nucleotides possess a low molecular weight. They are biological compounds and could either be a pyrimidine or a purine. Nucleotides are found to be linked to a pentose sugar. They will have a minimum of one phosphate group attached. In the case of the phosphate not being present the compound is known as a nucleoside. When a group of nucleotides are linked together, they form nucleic acids. If the sugar is ribose, the end product is RNA i.e. a ribonucleic acid and If 2'-deoxyribose is attached then the result is DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid.

FEED NUCLEOTIDES – THE OUTLOOK Asian markets are growing the fastest in the feed additives market as also for feed nucleotides with domestic production capabilities and global sales markets. Wealth-wise too, Asia is a growing market and there is great product demand there. Though there is growth in the global aquaculture sector, there is short supply of fishmeal and oil. Consumer food safety, chemical and biological concerns, production systems safety, environment concerns, animal welfare, and other socio-economic factors are drivers for growth of the global feed nucleotides industry. Feed safety concerns, nutraceuticals, increased food processing by-products, growth of non-food agriculture, supply of ethanol and bio-diesel co-products, Rising costs of animal feed ingredients, shift to use of by-product by animal feed industry, are some of the major concerns of the industry. A scientific approach to the industry such as – technology to predict biological value of nutrients and feed ingredients, feed processing, use of feed enzymes, studying microbial and animal genomics (nutrigenomics), and plant genomics. In the global feed additives market, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Brazil and China are the dominant producers. Increasing levels of meat consumption is one of the important drivers for animal feed additives market. Swine diets use feed additives extensively. Demand for animal feed additives is in direct proportion to animal feed production. Steady demand for poultry and swine drive the growth for the animal feed industry. An increasing demand for pig and poultry products is now a market trend and these categories form the major segments for consumption of feed additives. Global Feed Nucleotides market is projected to reach about US$ XX.XX million by 2020 from US$ XX.XX million in 2012, registering a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of XX.XX % during the period 20052020. Global volume market for Feed Nucleotides is projected to reach about XX.XX thousand metric tons by 2020 from XX.XX thousand metric tons in 2012, registering a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of XX.XX % during the period 2005-2020.
