room correction technology Sound Qualilty to Match The Picture The advancements in picture quality the latest years have been vast. However, the sound has steadily been lagging behind. Now is the time to think about sound! By upgrading your sound you will not only put the quality of the sound and the picture back at par, but you will also differentiate yourself towards your competitors. Shorten Tuning Time The amount of time required for tuning is less with Dirac Live compared to manual tuning. You will save time and reach the same high-quality result each time.

Sound Defined.

Sound is recorded according to the intentions of the artist and producer. However, how it will reach the listener is uncertain, thanks to the broad array of listening rooms and loudspeakers used. Rooms and loudspeakers inevitably distort the sound both in the frequency domain and the time domain.

Sound Refined.

By digitally optimizing the output from each speaker of the audio system such that it is perfectly adjusted to the acoustical behavior of the listening environment, a much more transparent and true-to-the-source sound can be delivered.

Room Correction

patented Methods

Better Benefits

Most room correction solutions employ minimum-phase filters and introduce spurious time-domain artifacts. Sometimes too detailed high-frequency adjustments are used, leading to a slight decorrelation between the different speakers. Other systems measure only in a limited region, failing to collect all relevant information about the sound field, and consequently leading to a non-robust adjustment.

Magnitude response correction Dirac’s patented methods offer just the right resolution. Based not only on an average response, the stationary frequency response correction looks at the variations between different measurement positions and carefully makes a correction whose level of detail depends on the frequencydependent spatial variations.

Dirac Research has worked for many years on these problems, patented and published results in the leading journals. Dirac learned to deal with these problems in one of the most challenging acoustic environments by working with luxury car partner BMW. Now the technology is available to the cinema industry with Datasat Digital Entertainment’s AP20 Audio Processor.

Mixed-phase technology Dirac’s mixed-phase filter technology provides the highest performance available. Loudspeakers measured in rooms are mixed-phase and consequently only a mixed-phase correction can restore the intended impulse response. Minimumphase filters only consider the magnitude response and fail to address time-domain problems. Room correction systems that only provide minimum-phase or linear-phase correction, they fail to improve an aspect with determines the perceived localization and clarity of a sound event.

More Distinct Bass Punch Acoustic room modes distort the character of the bass and loudspeakers continue to ring even after a bass punch has been delivered due to mechanical restrictions. Dirac Live effectively prepares the loudspeaker for the sound that is coming and reduces the settling time of the loudspeaker, thereby achieving a much tighter bass. By adjusting the speaker outputs to the room modes, the character of the bass is restored to that intended on the recording.

for high end sound

Impulse Response Optimization Dirac Live is the only system on the market which provides true working impulse response correction as measured over a large listening region. The impulse response is critical for stereo perception. Localization and stereo hearing, in general, depends on the similarity between and the quality of the left and the right channel impulse responses. Only Dirac Live improves the precision and the clarity of the stereo image.

and technical specifications

Early Reflections Are Reduced This type of reflections, from the same direction as the speaker, that are known to cause smearing and shifting of the stereo image as well as reduced distinctness. The effects of side-reflections are quite different. They give a certain coloration of the sound, but actually make it easier to localize and distinguish different sound events. Dirac Live only reduces the stationary spectral coloration that such side-reflections cause, but no attempt is made to remove them.

better sound

Restored Sound Stage Dirac Live restores the sound stage so that the localization of sound events become much more detailed. Since stereo perception depends crucially on the similarity, or correlation, between the signals at the left and right ears, which in turn is determined by the impulse responses of the left and right signal paths, only true mixed-phase impulse response correction can improve the spatial perception of a sound reproduction. Dirac Live is the only solution that achieves this in a large listening volume. Reduced Listening Fatigue Distortions in the frequency domain and in the time domain make it demanding for our brains to interpret the sound. A smooth frequency response and an aligned phase response makes the sound more natural and prevents listening fatigue during prolonged listening sessions. According to Japan Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, phase distortions are a major cause of listening fatigue. With the unique phase alignment and magnitude response optimization of Dirac Live, listening becomes effort-less. Your ears will remain fresh and your senses clear.
