1.0 Introduction Allamee is a resort that pays homage to both the land it is on and the custodians of the land, the Ngarrindjeri people and the Kaurna people. The Ngarrindjeri people looked across the passage from Cape Jervis and declared the island was the ‘land of the dead’ (Muldawali leads the spirits of the deceased across). The Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains referred to Kangaroo Island as ‘Karta’ , a place where the spirits reside. Kangaroo Island is full of history and stories and that deserves to be celebrated and what better way to celbrate than to exprience it in it’s full glory.

The island is known for its agriculture, fishing and nature reserves. ... Over 140,000 people visit Kangaroo Island each year, making it one of the most popular destinations in South Australia.

2.0 Resort Logo’s

18

While creating the resort Allamee I was heavily inspired by the history of Australian culture and used all indigenous names and symbols to connect the modern world with the ancient. Allamee means to stay for a while and the logo symbol means a meeting place so the concept and more so meaning behind the logo is a meeting place to stay a while. I believe that by paying homage to the ancestors it will raise a greater awareness amongst Australia’s and beyond for the beautiful and rich place in which we reside.

The colour pallet that I went for when creating the logo was very earthy and colours that you would be able to find in the landscape and in traditional paintings and art work.

2.1 Concept development

22

The font I choose for the log’s was Shorelines Script Bold, and this was because i wanted the logo to have a very hand rendered feel. I left the leading and tracking to auto in all logo’s because the font naturally had ligature.

font choice

Do’s and Don’ts

The do’s... The logo can be put vertical, horizontal or even on the diagonal but is best suited to horizontal. The don’t s... No distorting or stretching

nothing brings people

together like great food

Tukka our 5 star restaurant caters for 3 meals a day 7 days a week in a luxury style dining room with magnificent views, otherwise of if you don’t feel like being around others or having to deal with you classic restaurant clinking of cutlery we have a special menu just for room service that has a less sophisticated and more homey feel to it. As for drinks our restaurant has a fully equipt cocktail bar, and cellar full of SA finest wine.

26

2.3 Restaurant Tukka meaning food in most aboriginal languages inspired the restaurant name, while the symbol is an aboriginal way of writing people sitting so the restaurant is a place to sit and have food. Again i based the logo on an earthy pallet.

What we really love about eating local in kangaroo island is the huge variety on offer. There is just about every imaginable and indulgent ingredient available somewhere across the state, from the fresh-caught seafood of the coast to the hidden fruit bowls of the outback. Our Team of chefs put together seasonal menus show casing the best of every season straight to your plate. We also have two brilliant sommeliers that pair wines to our menu, and have done something for everyone on our menu.

Be welcomed. Be pampered. Be yourself

Ballarat means resting place which i thought was very fitting for a day spa as they are meant to relax you and the aboriginal symbol that i paired it with stands for safe place so the day spa is a safe place to rest and re set. The colours of the day spa are more mellow and i based them off a green tint of bush leaves, which are quite calm and relaxing colours to me.

the echos of beauty you have seen, resound through the

dying coals of a camp f ire The camping section of the resort was chosen to give a luxury experience of how the lands ancestors lived, sitting telling stories lit by fire light at night, of course this is only an option for the guests. The off-site cabins are for those searching for a little more privacy or just to get in touch with nature, there is no wifi in these cabins although they are fully equipt with a TV, kitchen and full fridge full of beautiful fresh produce straight from the tukka kitchen.

Karratha means good country or soft earth in aboriginal. The symbol chosen for this logo means ironically means campsite making it quite self explanatory, and the colours used were to replicate those of a campfire.

Kaleen being an aboriginal word for water was chosen to represent the beach section of the resort the symbol represents running water, and the colour scheme matches the beautiful blues that the ocean surrounding the island turns through the different depths.

4wd hire is available to transport your self to our beach tee-pee’s and just to be able to get an Australian adventure of going up the beach without the hassle of 4wd drive up keep.

3.0 signage

42

The importance of signage through out the resort is to establish a visual identity of each area, the signage help back up the resort core values and re-enforce the significance of the land on which the resort is on. It is also important to guide guests through the resort smoothly.
