PARIS

Fashion week brings with it a month long adventure of glamorous travel and exclusive events all around the world. From New York to London to Milan and Paris, each city has its own signature look, which always inspires 7 For All Mankind creative director Michele Manz, to create statement pieces in eye-catching fabrics. Michele not only loves traveling to each fashion capital, she understands the engrained style first hand, originally hailing from London and having lived in both New York and Milan.

NEW YORK CITY

“I adore the effortless way French women pair vintage with designer or denim with long, layered pieces. Almost anything goes with this covetable eclectic look. It’s about the attitude and having a strong sense of confidence.”

“I love the sleek, sophisticated look found on the streets of New York. Dress in layers so your ensemble effortlessly takes you from day to night. Plus, you never know what the weather may bring, and you certainly never want to sacrifice an ounce of style.”

MILAN

LONDON

“When it comes to London, I can’t help but think of the slim, mod-like silhouette so many men sport. The lines are clean and the fit is tailored. It’s a look that works whether you’re playing it cool and casual or want to add a little more edge to your everyday ensemble.”

“In Milan, tradition is as important as what is happening in fashion and I respect that very much. The look here is timeless and chic and people are not afraid to make a real statement with their clothes.” From left to right: Double Printed Crew Sweater in Asphalt, Jean Jacket in Black Coated, Colored Denim Slimmy in Dark Ivy

INDUSTRY ICON: ALEX WHITE

THE FASHION PACK

Stylist Alex White’s work is compelling, arresting and above all memorable, having shaped our fashion psyche with many of the most unforgettable images of the past decade and a half. She has styled campaigns with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, editorials for publications including The Face, Vogue Italia and W, the latter of where she was the fashion and style director for 16 years. Beyond the glossy pages of our favorite magazines, she has also styled collections for Oscar de la Renta, Nina Ricci, Prada and Louis Vuitton with Marc Jacobs, working her magic into runway shows and advertisements.

Stylist Alex White photographed behind the scenes at a photo shoot, by Craig McDean.

Busy fashion insiders know exactly what luggage, beauty items and on-the-go snacks to turn to when traveling during fashion week. These two industry pros are never short on glamour during fashion’s most hectic event.

For the 7 For All Mankind fall campaign, the super stylist blended the brand’s effortless, California vibe with a powerful, youthful edge on film and in print. We caught up with White to see what inspires her amazing work.

Kate Stirling

Cameron Silver

Responsible for launching and handling the careers of the most influential hair stylists, makeup artists and fashion stylists working today. As director of The Wall Group artist agency, Stirling lands in New York each season to support her artists’ various shows and appearances.

Founder of Decades Vintage Boutique as well as a luxury brand consultant, author and budding Bravo TV reality star. His main stop this season is New York, where he will be attending a fête in Oscar de la Renta’s honor and participating in Fashion’s Night Out.

Itinerary

7FAM: You’ve had such an illustrious career as a stylist. What initially attracted you to the job and what is your favorite aspect of styling? AW: I was attracted to working with clothing because of my mother’s amazing style and wardrobe, alongside seeing the costumes in classic musicals. My favorite aspect of the job is being inspired by a talented designer.

The Skinny in Teal Snake with Sheer Chiffon Blouse in Deep Teal

7FAM: You’ve created some of the most memorable images in fashion. Are there any in particular that you would count as your favorite? AW: A major highlight has been the photo shoots and covers I have done for W over the years, particularly with photographers Craig McDean, Mert & Marcus and Mario Testino.

New York for the Marchesa show, for which Renato Campora will key the hair, Rachel Zoe’s runway show and stylist Kate Young’s work on the Jason Wu show.

7FAM: Our fans and aspiring stylists would love a glimpse into your creative process. Briefly describe how you generally get inspired and carry out that spark onto a page. AW: For me, inspiration can either start with the actual product and how it relates to culture, or something in the arts that relates back to the product. I look at everything happening around me including art, photos and film.

FRANCO FOR ALL MANKIND James Franco lends his eye for art

7FAM: Does travel inspire your work? What is your favorite place to travel for inspiration? AW: Travel can be a huge inspiration for me for many reasons. My favorite place to visit is India.

7FAM: What was the process like working with James Franco on the 7 For All Mankind film and still shoot? AW: The process has to be organized and clearly thought out prior to shooting. The spontaneity you see in the campaign film and stills is actually well planned from a styling perspective.

“The Alexander Wang party never fails to be the highlight of the week. It’s hosted by Milk Studios. The location is top secret!”

The electric energy of New York gets even more intense and decidedly more glamorous once Fashion Week begins. Aside from the crowded venues, teeming with well-dressed show goers all peacocking for street style photographers, there are plenty of chic places to refuel, shop, slip away or be seen in between the harried schedule of events.
