elcome to our 3yr Anniversary Issue. We are excited, I am excited, to be able to put out publications, 3 years after our initial start. I've seen startup publications come and go, some just didn't have what it takes to produce quality work that would stand up to the competition. But we were up for the challenge, and we stepped up to the plate, and presented the world with grade A editorials, interesting interviews, and diverse content from all walks of life from all around the globe. I would like to take the time out to thank every contributor who submitted to us over the year and everyone on their team that helped bring their vision to life, from Photographers to Wardrobe Stylist, Creative Directors, Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, & Assistants. It's a beautiful feeling receiving emails from all around the world stating that it is a dream to be accepted inside one of our issues and that our platform is loved and followed daily for inspiration and motivation. This sort of support really pushes us to be the best at what we do. Thanks for being apart of what we have established. Enjoy the issue. Thank you. -Editor

ello Azia, It’s a pleasure to have you featured in our February 2019 Issue. How does it feel? AZIA -It’s an honor to Be featured in such a
dope magazine. You guys cover is so much beauty so much beautiful people I’m just glad to be among the few.
Theo Hanson -So Azia; Tell us about yourself. Who is the beautiful, multitalented, and educated Azia Toussaint? AZIA -Azia Toussaint Is a fierce driven excited talented educated female boss. I absolutely love music and I grew up in a studio so music is in my blood in addition to that I have a degree in communications with a minor in marketing so knowing how to hustle is nothing new. I have aspirations of following female leaders like Oprah in building an Empire but instead of news being my anchor I chose music, well really it chose me. Theo Hanson -Tell us about “Hustle In Brooklyn”. AZIA -Hustle in Brooklyn is a reality show on BET and it
was very interesting to film lots of characters, personality lol and drama. For me I really wanted to show a vulnerable side of what I do and who I am, simultaneously while showing the world not only am I talented I’m a hustler! My team is me and my Dad, other people help me here and there but the core of what we do is either me or my dad. Theo Hanson -How did you become one of the stars of the
show? AZIA -Truthfully they found me on Instagram and the rest was history.
Theo Hanson -Many of us may know of you from your “Hustle” with your music and your other creative ventures. In the show; do we get to witness the grind? AZIA -Yes! Most definitely! You get to see me shoot music videos that I directed, photoshoots where it’s my vision, design costumes for Labor Day! And then there is so much you don’t get to see. Like for example I have a makeup line launching in the spring. I’m working on a hair line called Goddess Roots. I also have a new album coming out in March! I’m the definition of a hustler lol. Theo Hanson -We know that every artist gets their inspiration from someone or somewhere. Who are your role models, or influencers as an artist, where do you draw your inspiration from when it's time to be creative? AZIA -As an artist I draw inspiration from the world and real life situations but my music role models are the og’s I absolutely love Sade, Oprah, Diddy, Diana Ross, Daft Punk, Jay Z, Beyoncé, Lil Kim ummm those are pretty much my immediate go too vets. Theo Hanson -What are some of the things that has changed for you since you've started on the show “Hustle In Brooklyn“? AZIA -Definitely recognition by far! Theo Hanson -Let's go back to your music. What would you say your sound or genre is or is musically inspired by? AZIA -Trap R&B Pop Hip Hop Theo Hanson -Are you currently working on new music?

Can we look forward to a new music project being released soon? AZIA -Yesss I’m actually working on dropping a project in March that I am super excited about! Theo Hanson -I am definitely looking forward to hear what you've been cooking up…With all of this happening for you right now. It seems as if your career is in a good place and headed in the right direction. Where do you see yourself 7 years from now? Where will you be? What will you be doing? AZIA -7 years from now I will be running a company that houses creatives from all walks of life! I should have done my world tour already, I should be in motion pictures, and my makeup line Brownies Couture will be in the ranks with some of the best in the Industry. I’ll be enjoying life with my family continuing to grow! Theo Hanson -L et's talk FASHION! Let's talk STYLE! If you could describe your style, How would you describe it? AZIA -My style is very Brooklyn lol, I think I got that drug dealer chic vibe mixed with a Caribbean flavor. I change my hair a lot! I love anything that blings,
accessories are a must and I love showing my curves! Theo Hanson -What would you say is your favorite thing to wear the most? AZIA -On a chill day a sweat suit lol on a night on the town, cute pants nice shirt with a lil cleavage killer jacket! Or a tight dress that’s simplistic. Theo Hanson -What do you feel completes your look before walking out the house each day? AZIA -A killer jacket or sick shades Theo Hanson -As an artist; Do you think it is important to always be dressed well and in style? AZIA -Truthfully I think it’s important to be comfortable in your own skin and exude style in w.e you have one. I don’t think specific types of outfits give you style I think it’s just something you have or you don’t. Lol Theo Hanson -What advice would you give right now to any young aspiring artist on the grind, hustling? AZIA -Think about the type of life you want and make that choice to grind until you get it. Do not take no for an answer! And of course can’t stop won’t stop, Get ya hustle on. Theo Hanson -Before we wrap up Azia. I want you to tell me...What does 7Hues mean to you? AZIA -7hues is a creative fashion sanctuary where there are no rules. And I love it! Theo Hanson -Thank you! That was beautifully said… Well Azia; I want to thank you so much for taking time out to chat with us here at 7Hues Magazine. So check out my latest project “The Audacity” on Spotify Tidal Apple Music Google play w.e until my newest project drops. STAY TUNE. Theo Hanson -Thank you so much again and we wish you all the best. esigner and Founder, Dr Chichi Menakaya, a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon explains that the work showcases pieces that not only empower but, advocates for human rights.
Domestic violence numbers continue to rise significantly leading on to increased poverty and inability of survivors to rebuild their lives. Our work and designs are inspired by the struggle to put an end to this grave crime. Dr Chichi designs the outfits but, then through the association’s “ Foster A Woman Campaign - Financial Empowerment Scheme”, she works with survivors alongside small businesses in Africa to tailor the outfits. The profits of this label in turn helps fund our business empowerment scheme (Foster-A-Woman) in Africa aimed at ensuring financial freedom. Dr Chichi started designing as a child while watching her mother Mrs Ann Okwuchukwu Menakaya (Late), a lawyer recreate outfits made for her by top designers. In her eyes, her mother was eponymous to fashion, women empowerment and equity.

The pieces are usually created with fusion of different African fabrics “Ankara” to show the affluence, uniqueness and rich African culture by integrating this with global values. It sends a message that we all have the power to create bigger impact by working together. The vibrancy of “Ankara” means we can colour our lives and reach the world by spreading love. Our pieces are flattering adding to anyone’s stride and guides paths towards greatness and rebuilding. Our production teams are either benefactors of our “ Foster A Woman” campaign or local female and male owned businesses in Nigeria, West Africa who align with our values to empower others. All our fabrics are locally sourced in Africa from local sellers and only the most luxurious and original fabrics are chosen thereby adding to the economy and watching small businesses grow.

JULI A
MARIE CHEW INTERVIEW WITH YINSEY WANG
E
very single time that Julia Marie Chew sends me one of her pieces, I am just awestruck and honoured at the opportunity - without fail, I find myself feeling incredibly lucky. It is not everyday one gets to be transformed into a swan, peacock or a golden phoenix of sorts. Chew, with her ‘designer hat’ on, goes by the name Xiaolin Design, a tour de force of a brand which boasts collaborations with the likes of powerhouse photographers including Bella Kotak, Lillian Liu and Zhang Jingna (each known for their particular brand of magic and ethereal elegance behind the lens). One of the things that constantly intrigues me is how adaptable Chew’s pieces are. Although a key signature of her work comprises of feathers, Chew also uses other materials in composing her incredibly eye-catching and fairytale-inspired designs. This time however, I thought to play around with her latest avian-esque loans to me - a full-bodied feather-clad mermaid dress, gilded in magnificent gold and an alluring floor-length cape of ostrich plumage. What a privilege it was to shoot these with different photographers, Jevgenija, Adam Bird, Ella Sadika and Rhiannon Laite, and being mesmerised by their diverse styles and ability to capture the pieces showcasing their unique visions. In essence, the images showcase the versatility of the looks, imagery and atmosphere that can be brought out of Chew’s work.

YW -Tell us what motivates you to create! JMC -I love creating gowns that you would only dream
of wearing in a fairytale or fantasy movie. Stepping into a dream gown can transport you to another world, elevate your mood, and inspire confidence. It really changes your perspective on life and I love adding a touch of beauty and imagination into this often dreary world. YW -Are you ever surprised about the results of a photo shoot for you have contributed pieces? JMC - I am lucky to be able to work with people from so many diverse backgrounds. I love seeing each photographer put their unique twist on the theme of a shoot. I am often surprised by the incredible locations they find, and the styling of the shoot. Even if I get behind the scenes photos, often the final result blows me away. It's so exciting to be a part of another creative's vision. YW -You recently got married in Italy and designed your own dress. Tell us a bit more about the process and the experience! JMC -I've always dreamed of designing my own wedding gown. Even when I was a little girl, I would draw pictures of what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. I always had a long train and a crown and of course a prince to match! My friends expected me to go way over the top with my gown, but I wanted something simple and elegant. I picked a classic A-line silhouette, but my special touch was to appliqué the fabric with hundreds of delicate chiffon flowers. The flowers trickled down from the skirt like wisteria blossoms and twisted vines wrapped around the bodice. My husband and I eloped to Lake Como, Italy, where we exchanged our vows on the Lover's Bridge in Nesso. It was truly a magical experience! YW -What is it about your pieces that make them so versatile? JMC -All of my designs achieve a balance between being theatrical and classic. I carefully design my dresses so that they are still figure flattering after I add the feathers. I choose crisp, elegant silhouettes and bold, solid colors, such as black and red. The dresses can be worn alone and still make a statement or be embellished with jewellery and accessories. I try not to over-design or over-work a dress so that the client can still add her own finishing touches. NASTYA
Nastya Swan is a young Russian-born social media influencer and artist based in New York. Through her dedication and commitment, she has become a role-model for many young people across the globe, inspiring them to be more self-confident and stand up for what they believe.

7HUES FEBRUARY 2019
I
n less than five years, Nastya has built over 851k Instagram followers and 602k subscribers on YouTube, receiving over 35 million views for her video blogs. Her aim is to inspire people and become a role model for young people, especially women, who increasingly lack self-confidence and seek motivation. Nastya believes the chance to talk and be heard is a precious freedom in society, which drives her to discuss emotive topics about confidence, self-care, well-being and freedom – across any social platforms. She opened-up to us more about this passion in an interview discussing her work on Instagram; how she started, which brands she works with and how she interacts with her followers on a daily basis. Nastya, you have 851k Instagram followers. Did you know from the beginning that you would become so popular on social media? How did it all start? When I was 13 years old I was an absolutely fearless and dreamy girl, but I suffered from a feeling of neglect with a lack of attention being shown from my family, mainly because they were always busy with their own work. I decided one day to create a YouTube channel to share my life with other people. I told myself that I just wanted to find voices of support and empathy all around the world. I had been sharing my travels, interests, and thoughts on certain situations in my life and people started to follow me and moreover, started to relate.

INFLUENCER CONCEPTS ARTIST
ICON 77
I got bullied at school for doing something unusual, which is obvious, but I knew that I was on the right path, so I never considered the need to stop creating the content and put it out. While all my teenage friends were drinking, partying or hanging out, I was basically growing my own business. My passion was fuel for my work and every day I tried to improve my skills in editing, shooting videos and talking openly with the camera. I’m proud and happy that I kept myself busy from such a young age. Now, I could not be more grateful for the audience I have built, because they always support me, get my back and don’t let me give up. After 3 years of rapid growth from my YouTube channel, I was brave enough to leave Russia and move to NYC, because I truly believe that this place has magical energy and presents real opportunities to create and be who you want. Now that I am here in New York, lots of new people have started to follow me extremely quickly because they identified with my issues and felt like they are a part of my life.
What are your posts all about and how do you interact with your followers? In every post I try my best to provide support to people, because I know that on the other side of the screen is a girl or boy who wants to be valuable, confident and loved person. I give advice on improving health, happiness, and motivation.
With which brands have you already collaborated and what is your best project to date as an Instagram influencer? I’m really honored to tell you that
46
7HUES FEBRUARY 2019
recently I have worked with Zara, Bershka, Under Armour, Nike, Puma, Dolce Gabbana, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Maybelline, La Mer, Estée Lauder and Guess... All the brands have their own concept and message to bring to people, so every experience has inspired me to provide a different angle or vision. My favorite experience was with Maybelline, when I shot a TV commercial for the Russian media with the main Maybelline makeup artist, who showed me many tricks to improve my facial looks. And after I attended a private late night event on a rooftop where I met great, talented people and artists: the next day I was interviewing Adriana Lima, who is the face of the brand. So yes, being a part of the Maybelline team was an unforgettable experience.
What is your best advice for people who want to become Instagram fashion or lifestyle bloggers? Never compare yourself to other successful people. You will never know when they really began their business properly on Instagram or how hard they work during the night. Just be yourself. You have your life, your heart, your body and you should be proud and confident enough to say that you are unique. If they don’t accept the way you are, it’s their problem, not yours. Let people judge, just smile back and be focused on your aims.
Do you have any special projects coming up? Of course, I'm working on a lot of projects at the same time but I never share them before they become reality. Just stay tuned and I’m more than happy to let you know as soon as they are ready!
