EDITORIAL

William Mydell III

WELCOME TO OUR AUGUST 2016 ISSUE "SWIMSUIT"

Editor in Chief / Publisher / Creative Director

William Mydell III Layout & Design

CONTRIBUTORS Segot Segalas, Gunther Frans, Victor Hugo, Lemari Pelle, Sayen Mobin, & Edward "Chad" Lawson PRINT & PRODUCTION www.magcloud.com

Fall is only a few weeks away and summer will be over. What better way to end the summer, by launching a swimsuit issue displaying some of the hottest swim-wear and models. Even though nowadays summer feels like it doesn't end until the end of the year. This month's cover model is a familiar face. This Netherlands beauty graced our cover for our 3rd issue, "Efflorescence". The photographer is from Belgium, and he shot a very stunning editorial which compliments our style here at 7Hues Magazine. We also have some awesome fashion and artistic features in this month issue which are also from international contributors. One from Africa, and the other all the way from France. Just the diversity we seek to provide here at our magazine. In other news we found a partner that will be sponsoring our hair edition, InflĂşance Hair Care, and we are currently in discussion of where we will be distributing our prints as we slowly transition out of using Magcloud.com to print our issue and we start distributing thousands of copies nationwide. So look forward to the changes being made and we will most definitely keep you updated as we move forward. Our next issue will be themed around "Wonderland". Tell a fellow photographer or creative model and let them know we are taking submissions for our Wonderland Issue which will be released in September. Thanks. -Editor

oin us as we take a look into the life of Belgium's creative photographer Gunther Frans as he graces the cover of our 2016 swimsuit issue. 7H: Hi Gunther Frans, nice of you to join us...How's life treating you? GF: Fine, counting down till my holiday to the states! 7H: Tell me a little about you. Where is home? GF: Home will be in Belgium, Langdorp

7H: If you could live anywhere on this awesome planet, where would you build your dream home? GF: Probably somewhere where the weather is a lot nicer then in Belgium, and where the scenery would be awesome to create stunning images. 7H: What is your current state of mind before we continue with the interview? GF: Counting down till my holidays, so happy 7H: What sort of photography do you specialize in? GF: My photography varies from fashion & beauty up to artistic nudes. 7H: What was your career path? How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing what you do for a living? Or is it 37 August 2016

something you do on the side? GF: I started out as an event photographer, so nightlife ,concerts and stuff. Took a workshop with a fellow photographer based on Strobism and immediately was sold to the idea of working and shooting with models. After a while I started shooting from my living room and because the first clients were arriving, I’ve decided to build myself my own studio. Then after 2 years people really liked my style and were wondering if I would be interesting in teaching workshops about photography and retouching, so yes, I did it! 7H: How long have you been a photographer? GF: That will be 6 years model-photography + 2 years event photography 7H: How would you describe your style? GF: Contrasty, colorful and moody 7H: What's in your camera bag? What type of camera do you shoot with? GF: Nikon D800 – 85mm F1.4 – 50mm f1.8 – 24-70mm f2.8 – 70200mm f2.8 Fujifilm X-T1 – 35mm f1.4 – 18-55mm - 55-200mm – 12mm f2.0 7H: What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your

camera?

7H: What motivates you to continue taking pictures economically, politically, intellectually or emotionally?

GF: Hoodman Hoodloop 7H: If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why? GF: 85mm f1.4 because of the bokeh generation 7H: What lighting equipment do you take on a shoot? GF: Elinchrom Quadra’s 400W 7H: Can you describe how and when you use flash, video light, or reflectors and natural light during a shoot? GF: I prefer to use flash when I’m in the studio, but when we go outside it depends on the mood or vibe I want to create in an image! If I want it more natural I prefer to use the ambient light, otherwise I’m opting for the strobes. 7H: What editing software do you prefer to use? GF: Capture One in combination with Adobe’s Photoshop 7H: What is your favorite computer/editing accessory, other than your computer? GF: Wacom Tablet 7H: How important is Photoshopin your final images? GF: My images get created for 80% in post, so very important to me. 7H: Are you a Mac or Pc lover? GF: PC 7H: Do you plan on buying any new equipment and if so what do you have your eyes set on? GF: Another Elinchrom ELC 500W 7H: Can you briefly describe for the readers your photographic work-flow? GF: First a pre-selection in Capture one, then an export to photoshop where I start with the retouching of it.

GF: Well, i like to idea of creating a moment in time, that i can freeze and look back to with all the memories attached to it. 7H: Every Photographer develops their own shooting strategy in their own unique way, be that interning, apprenticing, assisting, graduate school, on the job training, etc. How do you get the person, place or thing that is in front of your lens onto your memory card in just the way you want it? GF: Well it all starts with communication and good, open communication. Tell the model upfront what you expect from her, so all parties now what you are trying to create. And it does not always work, but if you can communicate what’s in your head, that’s a beginning of some strong images.

I get paid by teaching other people how to create stunning images.

7H: How do you feel about cropping an image? GF: If it makes the image better I got no problem at all with it. But I try to get it right in camera. 7H: What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such great imagery?

GF: Well, just looking around online to other photographers and in your life

7H: Do you choose Fashion and Beauty Photography over anything else? What do you love shooting the most? GF: I love to shoot fashion & beauty! And models to be honest, and fashion if it’s a big concept with some sort of fantasy twist to it, I’m all in for it. 7H: How do you get paid to do what you want to do with your photography? Is fashion photography a profitable gig, or is it something you love doing? GF: I get paid by teaching other people how to create stunning images.

7H: Photography has a long and fascinating history. Most photographers happily admit which of their predecessors influenced them and their work. How about you...Which photographers influenced you, and how did they influence your thinking, photography, and career path? GF: Well for me to be honest, I just picked up the camera and looked at a lot of different photographers, so not really somebody specifically 7H: Different photographers have different end goals for their work. The most successful ones are those who can consistently get their work to say what it is they want, even if they cannot articulate what that is or how that happens. What is it exactly you want to say with your photographs, and how do you actually get your photographs to do that? GF: I want to create some sort of story and have people think about why I’ve created that certain image. 7H: What has been your most memorable assignment and why? GF: Shooting with some DJ’s is always awesome and on locations! They inspire you 7H: Do you have an assistant? If so why? GF: I do not

7H: Where would be your dream destination assignment? GF: Shooting on a very exotic location with an awesome team 7H: What do you thing of the photography industry at the moment and where do you see it in 5 years from now? GF: In 5 years’ time I think we will be more going towards 3D and visualizing things, what is something to look forward to. Any websites or blogs you visit often? www.modelmayhem.com www.pinterest.com www.500px.com 7H: The first photographer that comes to your mind and why? GF: Lucima 7H: Name one way you market your photography? GF: Facebook

GF: I love to photograph models that is my passion. Off-course when there is something special to photograph I capture it. But I stay with my passion 7H: What advice do you have for somebody who wants to pursue photography?
