One reason the American Civil War was one of the bloodiest times in American history is because of the weather conditions. Weather influenced strategies and changed battles during the Civil War. It also flooded camps and made it hard to travel. An example of this is when a nor'easter came and hit a Union Army and stopped them dead in their tracks. General Burnside's troops began to get bogged down in the mud. Wagons and cannons became stuck, and many soldiers fell in the mud and lost their shoes. They were forced to turn back and abandon their mission but when they arrived in camp their shelters were flooded. This shows how weather influenced strategies and changed battles during the American Civil War.

them to die with a little bit of water. They also couldn’t control or treat diseases and the doctors didn’t know how to transport soldiers. This was show in the book, Soldier's Heart on Pg. 53, “‘Don’t,” Nelson said through his teeth. ‘Don’t lie.
Destructive Battles The last reason the American Civil War was one of the bloodiest times in American history is because of the gruesome and violent battles. Cannons made it easier to fight because of they could fire shells and other types of ammunition. Standing in lines in the middle of a field allowed each side to fire walls of bullets at each other. Also after firing couple rounds at the enemy, the soldiers would run forward with bayonets and try to stab the enemy. One example of is shown in the book, Soldier's Heart on Pg 49, “Death was everywhere, nowhere. Bullets flew past him with evil little snaps and snickers as they cut the air. Next, to him, Massey’s head suddenly left his body and disappeared, taken by a cannon round that then went through an officer's horse, end to end, before plowing into the ground.” This shows how gruesome and violent battles were during the civil war, and especially how cannons played a role in that destruction.
Despite the violent battles and bloodshed of the civil war, the soldiers that gave their lives made America the country it is today. They put down their lives to give all people of all color the rights and freedom they deserve.
