THE TRIALS WERE AN AWFUL TIME... Women were hanged, they were drowned, they were burned to the stake. All for something they didn’t do. The Salem Witch Trials were a very dark time to many families. They had many innocent women killed for what they called as being a “witch” The Salem Witch Trials of Massachusetts were a time in 1692-1693 when predominantly women were accused of being witches who followed Satan and were tested and tried in court.
It all started when two young girls got sick. The people then thought they were made sick by witches. This is when the people and government accused people of if they were witches or not. There were procedures that the people had to go through to prove if they were with or not. The people also thought that they were possessed by the devil, and that they followed Satan.

WHAT WERE THEY FOLLOWING? People thought that the convicted witches were followers of Satan. If you did not pass the procedures, not only would you be killed, but you would be sent to hell. According to https://www.britannica.com/event/ Salem-witch-trials, as I said before that they followed Satan but they also traded their soul for his assistance. It was also stated that the witches had ordered demons to do magical deeds, that they changed from human to animal form or from one human form to another, that animals acted as their familiar spirits, and that they rode through the air at night to secret meetings. Now, people know that there was very little doubt that the people back then did worship the devil and worship the devil and attempt to practice sorcery with harmful intent. But, no one ever had the concept of being a witch. REISE | PAGEÂ 4
PROCEDURES Some of the procedures that the people would do to the “witches”, is that they would tie a rock to the “witch” and then throw them into some sort of pool of water. If the person drowned, then they were not a witch. If they came back to the surface and floated, they would be a witch. Another trial that they would have people do is read a prayer aloud in front of a large crowd of people. If they stuttered on their words, or made any little mistake while speaking, they would be accused a

witch. I thought that some of these were very unfair. For the drowning procedure, I thought it was very unfair because they were going to die anyway. They might as well just shoot the person in the head if they are going to drown them. Though they did do some of the procedures as drowning, according to https://www.britannica.com /event/Salem-witch-trials, the people would go to trial and if they were convicted a witch, they would just simply be hanged. The government didn’t really care about the people’s living life, they mostly cared about their after-life. If the person was a witch, they would go to hell with satan, if they passed the procedures, and they proved that they were human, they would go to heaven.
END
The Salem Witch Trials were a horrible time when people were tortured, and killed. Almost all of the people were innocent and many families were ripped apart because there were false accusations on if they were a witch. The Salem Witch Trials were terrible times, woman were hanged, drowned, and burned to the steak. All because of a false accusement. Terrible. .
