How would you like to be picked and taken away from your friends and family and friends whether you like it or not? Go fight in a war and get treated terribly? Well that's how you would feel as an african american soldier fighting in the Vietnam War.
There were over 2 million deaths in the Vietnam War total. And nearly 60 thousand were american soldiers. The Vietnam War was a difficult time for American soldiers, particularly African American soldiers, due to the dangerous battles and difficult environment.
. Another reason it was hard for them was that they got the old leftover food that the white soldiers and lieutenants had already eaten off of. Here is some text from the book fallen angels showing how hard it was to live there. “I look down at the old reuben sandwich with a bite taken out of it on my plate. Looks a few days old to me.� This shows how terrible their food was.
This war was one of darkest wars in American history, particularly for African American soldiers. Some of the struggles that they had to face was that they were forced to run into the war zone first concluding that they were the ones shot down first
