Where are the heirs In the year of 1836, life in London, England was getting worse. Below the refined surface, conflict and anger was growing. This period of time was challenging due to the lack of heirs, the citizens views, and the royalty themselves. Before Princess Victoria was crowned, her uncle, King William the uppermost picture is of the Duchess ruled. However he had a problem. He of Kent and Princess Victoria, the bottom picture is again, the Duchess Of Kent. and his Queen Adelaide had no heirs. To solve this problem, Victoria was appointed as the Crown Princess. Despite that there was now an heir, many citizen of England were still worried. If the Princess Victoria died, there would be no back-up heir to take her place. Due to this, Princess Victoria was treated like glass, often not seen by the public. Of course it did not help that King William was getting even older, and more frail and vulnerable to illness. Â Fun Fact: King William didn't become king until he was in his 60's

Dying By the time Princess Victoria was 18, KingWilliam was dying, and had been for many years. This had many people start trying to curry favor from Princess Victoria, or even scheme to take the throne from her, as Sir John Conroy, her mother’s power hungry advisor/lover, tried to. “The majority of his decisions had a hidden agenda and were not in the best interests of Victoria, but more beneficial to himself and the Duchess.” There are even some people who intended to use her, because of her royal status. (examples include; Sir John Conroy, John Francis, Edward Oxford, and Robert Pate.)

Fun Fact King William “died of cardiac failure, complicated by terminal bronchopneumonia.”

Questioned Morals Though there were many lords and ladies that tried curry favor from Princess Victoria, the other majority questioned her. And why wouldn’t they? She was rarely seen by the public, said to have a bad temper and be more german than english. Adding to that dilemma is her uncle, King William, who was old, a sailor, a womanizer, and had fathered many illegitimate children. His father, King George IV was selfish, easily manipulated and irresponsible. And King George’s father, King George III was even worse, considered mad as a hatter, and not only a “scapegoat in England,” but a “tyrant in America.” This is generations of horrid royalty we’re talking about. And Princess Victoria was related to them, so who’s to say that she wouldn’t be awful as well?

King George III

Fun fact; Victoria was half german, through her mother’s side of the family.

Conclusion However when Victoria became Queen, she quickly solved most of these problems. After being Crowned, Queen Victoria banished Sir John Conroy from her sight, so no one could control her decisions any long. By later marrying Prince Albert (her cousin) and have nine children, she solved the heir problem. And finally, Queen Victoria was a wonderful Queen, and once she proved it, no one questioned her. Why else would they name a entire time period after her? Â All of these reason contributed to the challenging time period that is the Pre-Victorian age.
