The conditions for the US Soldiers in Vietnam were terrible. The housing wasn’t the best. And the fighting was very hard. In Vietnam it is basically a jungle. But it wasn’t just the jungle that made it hard to fight. Unfortunately, the U.S. troops were limited to what they could do strategically due to President Johnson.
In the jungle it was hard to determine who was the enemy. They would shoot at anyone often killing and wounding the people fighting with them. Because of this the death rate was high. 58,220 Americans died in Vietnam. “The Vietnam War was a long and deadly struggle that cost many lives.” This is from a NewsELA article about the war proving that the conditions did not work in the U.S.’s favor. The conditions just made it harder to fight against the North Vietnamese making the battles very hard.

The battles they fought were hard. It was almost impossible to tell who the enemy was.
In the jungle it was almost impossible to see the enemy. Therefore the U.S. troops would fire at anything that had a slight possibility of being a person. Because of this they would kill their allies and innocent people and sometimes not even get the enemy. “More than half of the Vietnamese who died were not soldiers. They were ordinary people who could not escape the bombs and bullets.” This comes from a NewsELA article about the Vietnam war. It shows how so many innocent people got killed. Because of the way the U.S. troops had to fight in order to be safe, many lives were lost. More lives than should’ve been lost.

Many lives were lost in Vietnam.
- Over 4 million people were killed - Most were Vietnamese civilians - About 58,000 were American deaths
Many lives were lost in Vietnam. Like the quote above stated, more than half of the casualties in Vietnam were regular civilians. 5.25 million people were killed including soldiers and civilians making Vietnam a very deadly war. About 4 million of these deaths were civilian deaths along with 200,000 North Vietnamese deaths. But there were only abou 60,000 Americans killed. “More than 3 million people were killed, including ove 58,000 Americans.” This comes from NewsELA and shows how there were milli of deaths. Too many lives were lost in Vietnam. If the war had ended sooner, ma there wouldn’t have been so many deaths. These are three in depth reasons why the Vietnam war was a difficult one. The Vietnam War was a difficult time because of the conditions for the US Soldie the battles they fought, and the loss of lives. Because of the conditions for the soldiers, the battles the U.S. soldiers fought, an the lives lost, the Vietnam war was a difficult one.
