VIETNAM WAR 1955-1975


imagine being just 18 years old and shipped off to fight in the war, well thats what happend to a lot of american adults. . The Vietnam war was one of the most violent wars because of the environment they fought in, the weapons they used, and the number of lives lost. in this time period young men at the age of 18 or above were drafted To go fight in the war To help vietnam conquer communism.


The Vietnam enviroment One of the reason that the vietnam war was one of the most violent wars was because of the environment they fought in. The vietnam war was mostly fought in the jungle, but also stretching to the savannas and mountains. In the jungle many dangerous bugs could spread diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and Japanese encephalitis which could all lead to severe illness or death. Diseases like those led to almost 500 deaths. Another threat was that the american soldiers did not know the area they were in very well and getting lost led to over 1,300 deaths/cases of missing.


THE WEAPONS Another One of the reasons why vietnam war was one of the most deadly wars was because of the weapons they used. In the war they used chemical weapons booby traps and regular guns. in the vietnam war the vietnamese soldiers would rig very deadly booby traps. one example is the punji sticks were according to scout.com “...made with sharpened bamboo stakes, often smeared with urine, feces, or another substance that would cause infection in the victim�. when american soldiers would fall into the hole they were put in they'd get spiked and infections could spread from the feces. Also chemical weapons were used in the war, one example of this is a chemical the us called agent orange that they would use for eliminating the vietnamese forest cover and any crops that they would eat. And finally leading to almost 20000 deaths was the were the guns and small arms.

DEATHS And finally another reason that the vietnam war was one of the most violent wars was because of the number of deaths. In the war there were over 58,000 american deaths, almost all were men. 14,000 of those deaths came from soldiers at the age of 20. The most popular cause of death was the guns and small arms wars which lead to about 18,000 deaths.
