OUR BENEFITS HEALTH AND DENTAL
LONG TERM DISABILITY
You have the option of selecting benefit plans Gold, Silver or Bronze—in each of the health and dental categories—which gives you nine options to choose from. Each option will give you a different level of benefit coverage and a different number of spending account credits that you can direct to your health and wellness spending accounts.
Long Term Disability coverage provides you with a monthly income if you experience loss of income due to a lengthy, permanent disability.
HEALTH SPENDING ACCOUNT Alberta Blue Cross provides you with a Health Spending Account option. You have the option to allocate credits (if included in your plan selection) to cover health-related items approved by the Canada Revenue Agency
WELLNESS SPENDING ACCOUNT The Wellness Spending Account assists employees to pursue an effective level of health and well-being. You have the option to allocate credits (if included in your plan selection) to cover items such as gym memberships, fitness classes, personal interest programs, child and elder care, work from home expenses, financial contributions (eg. TFSA, RSP) and much more.
LOCAL AUTHORITIES PENSION PLAN Your pension plan protects your tomorrow by helping you plan for your retirement today. You will contribute a percentage of your salary based on a Defined Benefit Plan. WORK STYLE ALLOWANCE All employees will receive a taxable work style allowance of $90 per month. This allowance will be paid every two weeks to all employees and will appear as a separate, taxable line item on pay statements. It can be used for any expenses related to your work style, including transportation to and from work, at-home office expenses and more.
FLEXIBLE HOURS
Securing travel coverage is an essential part of planning a trip. Your added coverage will provide you and your loved ones peace of mind while travelling.
You are required to work an average of 7.5 hours each working day of the month. However, you can build up hours above this required amount. And, with the permission of your manager, you can take you can take a monthly earned day of—perfect for supporting a balanced lifestyle.
EMPLOYEE LIFE INSURANCE
VACATION
Employee Life Insurance gives your family a degree of financial security in the event of your death.
DEPENDENT LIFE INSURANCE
During your first five years of full-time service, you are entitled to 15 vacation days per year. The longer you work here, the greater your vacation entitlement: 20 vacation days after five years, 25 vacation days after 15 years and 30 vacation days after 20 years of service.
Dependent Life Insurance is available and will be paid to the insured employee in the event of the death of an insured dependant.
SELF/SICK/FAMILY CARE DAYS
30-DAY EMERGENCY TRAVEL PLAN
ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT Accidental Death and Dismemberment protects you in the event of an accidental death or injury.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY
Full-time employees will have up to 12 personal sick days, mental health days or for the care of family (part-time employees are eligible for nine days).
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Employees are eligible for up to three paid days for bereavement leave.
Short Term Disability is designed to replace earnings lost as a result of a medically certified disability due to accident or sickness. Your benefits are based on years of service. continued on back page

EMPLOYEE AND FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
STAFF ASSOCIATION
Coordinated with an independent professional counselling service, the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides employees with confidential help for many types of personal and family counselling needs.
The Staff Association is designed to help connect our members at work and at home. We exist to build that community of all members, all work styles. Membership includes monthly draws, giveaways, discounts on events and opportunities to participate and connect.
BALANCE WELLNESS CENTRE All employees are invited to participate in daily fitness classes at the Balance Wellness Centre, our on-site fitness facility. Our instructors are certified in a wide range of classes and lead sessions that are fun, engaging and inclusive. The Balance Wellness Centre includes a weight room, a cardio room and excellent tools for enhancing employees’ workouts, such as bosu balls, resistance bands and yoga mats.
BALANCE® Balance is a wellness rewards program designed to support plan members on their health journey and reward them for making positive health changes. It contains a health risk assessment, information about health and lifestyle conditions, health trackers and medication reminders. As an Alberta Blue Cross employee with benefits, you automatically have access to Balance to help you maintain and improve your health.
CHARITABLE INITIATIVES As an organization, we encourage and provide financial support to numerous charitable projects ranging from the United Way to Casual for a Cause days. Hearts of Blue, our staff-funded charity, supports the community by providing assistance to Albertans in need. Days of Giving are corporately sponsored and sanctioned volunteering events that give employees the opportunities to volunteer their time during the workday.
PAY SCHEDULE Employees are paid every two weeks.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE Our Educational Assistance policy ($4,000 for permanent full-time and $2,000 for permanent part-time employees) allows for continuous learning through two different types of programs: • training programs, and • professional development programs.
