StรถrizzZ A Brand New Experience for Long-distance Family GIGABYTE design competition nomination

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Background “Daddy I miss you so much! Only a few words tell a story of how a family is sperated by one of the parents working abroad in order to improve quality of life for the family. Yes, social media are making our life more and more convenient, yet they can never create the warmth of accompanying and sweet memories. Is our life really getting better? Perhaps not in the spiritual way. What shall we do while the love among family is fading out silently if we don't even live together?

8

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Purpose Now we present a brand new experience for long-distance families. Instead of just a routine “goodnight, we decide to use a new way of long-distance story telling to create sweet moments bewteen parents and children. It makes the most delightful promise on earth and the best seasoning of life. Telling your children bedtime story every night may seem nothing, but indeed it means a lot for maintaining healthy parental relationship and meanwhile lightening the load of taking care of children for the other half at home.

9

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

After Interview About Video Call 1.They video chat usually from getting off work to sleeping everyday . When time to end, children are always xxdepressed and try any ways to elongate. 2.Children don't have that many topics to share, but they still want to see each other. In the end, they open xxwebcam, but focusing on their own things. 3.Wish to feel much free and at ease. ─ Find a better way for them to interact, and feel comfortable.

10

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

About interact before sleeping All of interviewers are used to telling bedtime stories at home, and children can keep promise that they would go to bed after stories.

About telling stories Telling bedtime story is always a great activity for parental relationship. It helps parents to set their children in bed easily and meanwhile increase their intimacy. Moreover, scientific studies proof that telling stories is beneficial for children’s language development, especially for those 0-3 years old, therefore parents are suggested to tell stories to. The most precious part is that affective communication and children's cognitive ability would strengthen through every time they ask and answer.

11

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Scenario Testing & Breakdowns Observation of the experiment- ask a father to tell a story for his daughter remotely with existing communications equipment.

1. After using SKYPE for testing, we found that we’re not relaxed when xxseating and staring at the screen during storytime. A comfortable way is lying down and looking at the picture projected on the ceiling with some drowsy yellow lights for clear children's faces and sleepy atmosphere. 2. Since parents and children share the same picture at the same time, parents will see when and where children point out and ask questions. StÜrizzZ app also has sound changing system which makes stories more interesting.

Conclusion Design a set of bedtime interacting products for longdistance family with 3-7 year old children. The one work abroad wouldn't miss the most important period of children's growth, meanwhile, sharing responsibility for taking-care pressure of the other parent.

12

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Sketch & Functional Prototype Testing We also analyzed children's toys for reference, warm-colored body and contrasting-colored detail would be most appealing.

Nite

Sui

StörizzZ StörizzZ is a set of bedtime interacting products designed for long-distance family, suitable for 3 to 7 year-old children. Children have a story machine “Nite” and a point-interacting pillow ”Sui” connecting to StörizzZ App through the internet, and now those parents who work abroad can use the App to tell sweet stories for their children!

14

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Bedtime is the most relaxed moment of a day. How wonderful it will be if children can read the storybooks with their daddy and mommy until asleep during this moment. The bedtime story promise not only increases children’s knowledge but also the love to the parents working abroad as time passes by. The best is that, with the help of StörizzZ, parents will no longer miss children’s growth, and Sui & Nite will always stay by children’s side, giving them sweet nights !

34

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Technology

Uber has collected lots of data about map, when and where customers call Uber and the busy time. Uber's technology matches its passengers and drivers efficiently, and passengers can just pay with app instead of cash. Uber set up an Advanced Technologies Center (ATC) in Pittsburgh. Its mission: to make self-driving Ubers a reality. Today, the world’s first Self-Driving Ubers are now on the road in the Steel City.

35

Target market

For those who travel/live in a big city which people usually use public transportation rather than having a car.

2

After arriving, they have to take public transportation with their big luggage, and have to go to hotel /home to put luggage first, so then they can hang out without burden. 1

But that’s totally a way waste both time and money.

Bouble tree Turn extra time in airport into happy hour

42

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017 During the journey, we always have to wait in the airport for a long time. Beside shopping, is there any interesting activity which could make us not feel that boring? Bouble tree provides a new choise to ease bad feeling of wait, and gives a new defenition of airport public art. Turn the extra time into happy hour ,the journey would be better.

44

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Research Imformation Collecting several kinds of imformation, this helps us understand the boarding process, the limit of baggage, the airport plan view, how others solve problems of boring, etc. Interview From interview we emitted some assumptions at the end, and assured the main problem even clearly. The most time spend in the airport is after we checking out. Most people go window shopping in duty free store, and eat something. For people from different country feel, no doubt, boring when they wait for boarding. Study Also, we check some books and papers about public seats and emotions when people do social activities. Through these studys, we learns that “the comfortable distance about public seats,””How people evalue public arts,”etc.

45

Meng-Jung Lin Portfolio 2017

Design Brief Turn extra time into happy hour Checking out earlier about 30 mins or more than the airplane depart is necessary. We can’t avoid waiting, but we can change our moods.

Having fun with your bags We might have some small bags with us after we check our big baggages. These personal belongings will make our chair special when people use the chair. Design environment When we mention airport, it gives us the feeling of neat, high-tech, and high-class. We want to design the chair style that fit the environment, and make the airport beautiful.

Made of metal powder by laser, it would be strong enough even be hollow. The 3D printing bracelet-watch is made by innovative technology but looks classic and graceful meanwhile. The dial can rotates freely between watch band. Hard metal presents a conversily delicate idea by thin and hollow shape.

Poster of typeface classification Bodoni, a modern typeface, is primarily used in those that deal with themes related to art, including architecture, music, painting and fashion. Since its elegance and dramatically contrast.

1798 BODONI Bodoni ,typographer, a fan of Baskerville, when designed his printing types, he sought to create a unique letterform of such beauty as to be admired for its own sake and, further, he wished to bring to a logical conclusion the work of Baskerville. Bodoni’s desire was a type which was suitable for contemporary times rather than the age of the scribe. Instead of the stroke of the pen, his inspiration was the mathematical precision and delicate hairline strokes characteristic of copperplate engraving, which was very popular at that time. As Transitional designs were based heavily on technological advances, Modern designs represent perhaps the first movement toward visual expression in type. By the end of the century, the popularity of the Modern style was established and the printing industry was about to enter a period of unprecedented change. Some version of Bodoni, like Bauer Bodoni, never achieved success in Europe before the digital era, mainly because its thin serif easily broke during letterpress printing. While, the problem didn’t occur in America, since the texts were in “layout studio” dedicated to running proofs in machines that did exert little continued pressure on the types. These layout proofs were then used for offset printing. Bodoni is primarily used in those that deal with themes related to art, including architecture, music, painting and fashion. Since its elegance and dramatically contrast.
