Helping you achieve At the start of your course tutors will spend the first few weeks getting to know you and how we can help you achieve your goals. We will then create you an individual learning plan to ensure that you get the right support and guidance during your time at College. We will set you targets, but these are nothing to worry about, we just want to make sure that you are on track to succeed at the end of your course. We also have Progression Advisors in Student Services who are available all year round to talk about your future plans and help you with your next steps. Functional Skills As part of your course you will be required to attend Functional Skills or Key Skills classes. These provide you with English, Maths and ICT skills and will help you achieve your goals both at College and throughout your future career.

We are taking the trouble out of travel! All full-time students will be able to save up to £450 per year with a FREE College bus service around Huntingdonshire. The buses will be for College use only, allowing us to pick you up a little bit later at about 8.30 am (so you can get a bit more time in bed!) and leaving College at approximately 5pm.

raising school apprenticeships leaving age
The government have made changes to the age at which young people can leave education and training. From 2013 young people will be required to stay in education or training until they turn 17 and from 2015 the age will go up to 18. However this does not mean your son or daughter will have to remain in school, post-16 options include: • Full-time education (this could be at a college or school) • An Apprenticeship • Part-time education or training if they are employed

An Apprenticeship is a training programme for people in work aged over 16. It is an excellent way to train for a career and get real work experience. What are the benefits? • Earn as you learn, all apprentices receive a minimum wage as well as paid holiday. • Learn practical on-the-job experience, as well as specific career skills and knowledge. • On successful completion you will receive qualifications in your chosen vocational area as well as the opportunity to study towards Functional Skills qualifications. Our Animal Management courses offer you the chance to expand your practical experience and learn principles of animal care. You will spend a lot of time at various work placements during your course allowing you to get hands on experience. You will also get the opportunity to go on field trips throughout the year; these usually include visiting a zoo, to carry out behaviour observations and to evaluate enclosures, and to a nature reserve to identify habitats and species. The College of Animal Welfare Campus: All of our courses are taught at The College of Animal Welfare, based in Godmanchester, Huntingdon. The College has industry standard workshops and established links with local animal care establishments and veterinary practices which will allow you to gain real work experience during your programme. This course will teach you the visual, technical, creative and professional skills that will enable you to enter commercial photography or to continue into Higher Education. You will work with traditional techniques and processes using film and will also study digital techniques using industry standard equipment, software and Apple Mac Computers. You will have an opportunity to visit national museums and art galleries and there will be a residential study visit in year two.
What will you study? This is a varied and exciting course, which will develop your skills and awareness in the fundamentals of photography. You will study units that cover a broad range of techniques and specialist areas. You will use this to complete the final major project, which is devised and managed by individual students working independently. Huntingdonshire Regional College were crowned the 2010 & 2011 Men’s British College National Football League Champions and the Men’s British Colleges National Knock-Out Champions. In addition, the Football Development is coached by staff presently working with Premiership Clubs.

Each programme is specifically tailored to help you meet your Higher Education goal. Step 3: After the Application Once you have sent off your application you will receive written confirmation that it has been received by our Admissions Team, this will be followed by an invitation to attend a welcome session which may also include an assessment. Step 4: Welcome Session Applicants will be invited in for a College welcome session. This will include information about the College in general, a tour of the College and an interview. If an applicant has applied for more than one course then they should be able to attend all interviews on the one session. These welcome sessions will last at least an hour and a half.
The welcome session is nothing to worry about; it gives you a chance to find out more about the College and your chosen course. It will also allow us to ensure that you are on the most suitable course at the correct level and have the best chance of success. You are welcome to bring a parent/guardian or carer with you. Step 5: What happens after the welcome session? At the end of the welcome session, if you are successful, you will be offered a place on a course or advice and guidance to help you move towards achieving your goals. If you are offered a conditional place on a course this means you will need to fulfil the conditions stated on your offer paperwork. If you receive an unconditional offer this means you have a place on the course. Step 6: Accepting your place If you decide to accept the place on the course, simply return the acceptance form from your offer pack confirming your decision. It is important to return this as soon as possible. Failure to do so may result in your place being offered to someone else.

Q. Is there a closing date for applications? A. No, we accept applications throughout the year although courses do fill up early so it’s best to get your application form in as early as possible. Q. I’m not sure which exact course I want to study. Can you apply for multiple courses? A. You are able to apply for three courses. You will be able to find out more information about courses in your interviews with the course tutor. You can also speak to the Admissions Team about which course would be most suitable for you. Q. Is there someone to help me fill out the application form? A. I have put on the form that I may need some extra support with my learning. What will happen now? A. You will be contacted by our Additional Learning Support Team who will go through in more detail your requirements.
