In the summer time, the water surface of Jialing River rises and surrounds this building. The flowing water could be regarded as the coolant to cool down the restaurant. At the same time, there is a water layer under the room, hot fresh air outside could be cool down by this water and flows into inside space. BENEATH THE ROOF Project: Gymnasium of Longxing District, Chongqing Location: Chongqing, China Type: Academic / Group work ( Team Leader ) Collaborators: Zhang Zhengyuan, Xia Tian, Yang Mingyu My Role: Design, Drawing, Modeling Date: 03.2018 - 04.2018 ( 2nd Semester of 4th year ) Advisor: Sun Yan ( sy65121572 @163.com )

Serving for public activity and urban space

Gymnasiums in city can usually become destination spaces due to its plaza space and high population density, which can enhance the vitality of surrounding areas. However, most gyms are designed exclusively for competitions and big events, ignoring the daily use for other purposes. In other words, when there's no competitions or big events, the gyms are more like huge city statues, unable to provide service for the city. In order to let them fit in the city better, designers are making gyms to provide more possibilities for residents other than competitions and events. Gyms are more like sports hubs. They are not only buildings, but also part of their surroundings and environment which can provide more possibilities in terms of city's integrity.

As a bridge between people and activities, this new sports park should shoulder the responsibility to supply more possibilities of outside public space for all ages. When gymnasiums are not only for games, people's lives become more versatile and enjoyable. Serving for people confilct and topography

The conflict between the new and old life of two kinds of people seems to become inevitable. How to create a subtle balance between the old and the youth in a community? This project is regarded as an exploration to find a new residence model which lets two kinds of people live harmoniously in one community. And for the topography, designers create a reasonable shape for buildings to merge into the landscape both of the hill and river.

12

Site analysis

This site locates in Chongqing city and is along side the Jialing River. There are lots of old residential houses for retired people inside this site and a makers park near this site. This design serves for these two kinds of people. Therefore, this design needs to resolve the conflict between the old and the youth.

SUPERPOSING SHENZHEN Serving for culture and urban experience

High-rise buildings can easily solve the contradiction between the need for commercial development and limited urban space as well as exerting a tremendous influence on its adjacent urban space. Thus, in this project, the designer uplifts the podiums to create a huge plaza to provide abundant public space and decrease the density of the ground floor. At the same time, this building is the superposition of all features appearing in this district, which is a kind of manner to respond to its cultural context.

Program analysis

Dafen, an urban village of oil paintings which locates in Shenzhen is developing rapidly, but there are still several problems in this village. The first one is the overly industrialization. Painters just motivate others works but not create. The second one is how to facing the increment of ht art tourism. The third one is lacking enough public space for public activities. So, designer should find a comprehensive method to deal with these three programs.

GROUP CONCEPT

USERS ANALYSIS

Traditional architecture design can be regraded as a goods-dominant logic design. During the design process, architect focus on space and materials, presenting tangible buildings simply. However, based on service-dominant logic, architecture should be regarded as a platform in buildings, providing various service in it. The value of architecture is defined predominantly by users. Thus, architects are supposed to concentrate more on intangible design hidden behind building itself, providing more possible activities and service.

BRIDGE TO CHINA Location: Liguang village, Yunnan Province, China Type: On-site Construction/ Team Work Collabrators: The WuZhiQiao Team of CQU My Role: Team Leader, Schematic Design, Main Construction Design Date:From Dec. 2017 to Aug. 2018 (Constructing from Aug. 5th to Aug. 10th 2018 ) Project Sponsor: Wu Zhi Qiao( Bridge To China) Charitable Foundation

Serving for the remote village

This was a student-led project sponsored by Bridge To China Charitable Foundation focusing on designing and building pedestrian bridges and carrying out community programs in remote areas of China, completed in August 2018. This bridge was designed by the CQU Design Team, tackling restraints including terrain, limitation by material, transportation and manufacture, etc. to come out with a volunteerexecutable solution. It will provide means for school children and other villagers to cross the river during flood times. The design has a level of low-tech concept embedded, in that it uses much local material, and makes it as easy as possible for the villagers to maintain.

Site analysis

The site is a distant village called Liguang in Yunnan, China. A seasonal river divides the village, blocking half of the village of its only connection to the outside. This half of the village is also where the Liguang Primary School is, and the lack of infrastructure greatly impacted the safety of students and normal operation of the school.

Before our team arrived at this village, there is only a dangerous and straightforward wood bridge without handrails. Villagers had to take the risk of falling into the water across this little river. In the same time, this old bridge was also on the hazard of devastation.

After - a new steel bailey bridge

After almost one-year investigation and design then seven-days construction, our team has built a new Bailey bridge. This sturdy and durable steel truss bridge can provide villagers with a safe enough condition to commute between two sides of this river.
