Participation in all Recreation Center classes, activities, seminars, sport leagues and select special events may require possession of a valid Recreation ID Card. The card is good for one (1) year from the date of purchase and provides a great value! Recreation ID Cardholders have access to the indoor walking track, gymnasium and game room. Youth Programs Performing Arts - Dancing From the Soul You will dance from the soul in this field collegiate style dance conditioning class where your child will learn Ballet, Jazz and Hip-Hop class. $40/month (Age 4-18)

Junior Mavs Fundamental Basketball (Ages 5-13)

Organized developmental basketball program designed to increase fundamental understanding of the game of basketball, while preparing players for competitive play. Registration includes uniform use. Rolling enrollment. $35/Monthly Monday/Wednesday 5:30 p.m.

Teen Open Gym (Ages 13-18)

Start a pick-up game of basketball with friends or just come work on your shot. Open gym is available only during open gym times below. Recreation ID card required.

Girl’s Volleyball (Ages 7-14)

The volleyball program will introduce a strong foundation of the sport, while developing fundamental skills, promoting self-confidence, team cooperation and sportsmanship. This is a great opportunity for youth to play a great game in a fun environment. $25/Monthly

Monday Night Baseball

Swimming

(Ages 6-adult) The Lancaster Tiger Sharks is a yearly swim team. Swimmers are trained in all competitive strokes while developing endurance and strength. The swim team is a great way to increase fitness, learn a valuable skill and make friends. Enrollment is open throughout the year.

Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) (High School)

Join the Lancaster Youth Advisory Committee! Created to help the youth serve the City of Lancaster, YAC provides opportunities to volunteer, earn community service hours, and take initiative on projects that will help promote a positive change in the city. Members participate in municipal government in an advisory capacity. Being a member of YAC provides many benefits:

• Members participate in fundraisers throughout the year that allow them to attend the annual YAC Summit. This is a conference where youth from YAC organizations across the state gather to exchange ideas, learn and Tuesday/Thursday 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. form new friendships. $50/month

Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

(High School) continued • Many of the service activities can be used to fulfill community service requirements toward graduation. • The monthly meetings provide an opportunity to gain leadership and public speaking skills, form relationships with influential people throughout the City , and enjoy refreshments and beverages! In order to join, youth must be Lancaster residents and currently enrolled in high school. There is no cost to participate. Call 972218-3706 for more information.

S.A.F.E. Summer Camp Open to Grades K-8 Lancaster Recreation Center 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday Friday

The Supervised After-School Fulfilling Enrichment program (S.A.F.E.) provides transportation for youth from Lancaster ISD schools to the Lancaster Recreation Center during the school year.

Registration for the S.A.F.E. After School Program is on a first come, first serve basis with limited enrollment. Registration must be done by the parent or legal gardian at the Lancaster Recreation Center. The monthly fee must be paid in full prior to the start of each month; space will not be held without full payment. Registration is $85/month for the first child, and $70/ month for each additional child.

Facility Information

The Fitness Atrium is located inside the Lancaster Recreation Center. It runs under the same hours of operation, and is open to members age 17 and older. Use of the Fitness Atrium requires a Fitness Pass.

Cycling This class is designed specifically for those who are new to spinning utilizing interval training. This means you will sit and stand during the ride. Youth Athletics/Aquatic Programs Winter Basketball League The City of Lancaster and Metro Basketball Association presents the 2018 Winter Basketball League. Youth attending Lancaster ISD Elementary will have a chance to represent their school by participating on a team with their classmates. Ages are 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U. The American Red Cross Learn to Swim program progresses from complete beginner to swim team or lifeguard/swim instructor ability. Most levels require more than one session to complete. Choose a class level. Instructors will assess the skill level of each student and may move students within class levels.


Choosing Your Child’s Level Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills/Fundamental Water Skills * (3-6 years old) Instructors focus on encouraging students to be comfortable in the water and teach skills which are fundamental to the swimming process such as supported floating, kick on front and back, alternate arm action, and water safety rules and skills. Level 2: Stroke Development/Stroke Improvement * Students will learn to coordinate breathing within the stroke for increased comfort and ability to swim greater distances. Skills include elementary backstroke, treading water, butterfly kick and body motion, front and back crawl, and water safety skills. Choose this class if your child can glide through the water on their front or back and use some sort of arm and leg action. Level 3: Stroke Refinement/Diving and Fitness Swimming


Senior Life Center Congregate Meal Program Lunch served Monday-Friday 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. The Congregate Meal Program is a daily lunch program that ensures a nutritious meal for seniors ages 60 and older. It is FREE and senior participants do not have to be a member of the Lancaster Senior Life Center. Senior participants MUST complete an intake form and nutrition assessment prior to participating in the program, which is sponsored in part by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. RSVP’s are highly encouraged. Participants must attend at least one nutrition education session annually. Seniors, ages 50-59, who are not members of the Lancaster Senior Life Center may purchase a lunch from the program for an additional fee.

Senior Programs Monthly Activities Shopping Trips

Each month we provide transportation from the Senior Life Center to area stores. Two additional outings are taken each month as well.

Line Dance

Step to the beat with today’s newest moves. Learn a new style each month. Learn the basic steps. Beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers are all welcomed. Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

Water Aerobics

A great workout for all fitness levels. Promotes balance. Held every 3rd Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

The Walking Club

Senior appropriate workout for ages 50+. Get healthy and fit through walking and low impact exercise. Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Groom and Glamour Lounge Who doesn’t like looking good? Groom and Glamour Days are back! Senior adults (men and women), you owe it to yourself to be pampered. Must sign up early at the Senior Life Center. Seating is limited. 1st/3rd Wednesday 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Lifetime of Legacies Every day in essence is our birthday, but we designate one day each month to celebrate the lifetime and legacies of our senior adults with recognition, cupcakes, ice cream and fun. It is what we do best. “Adding Living to Life!” 1st Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Men’s Power Hour This is a powerful hour of empowerment. Come and fellowship with other men to discuss and engage in conversations, specifically important to men. This very popular class is open to men of all ages and distinctions. Strength is mighty. One’s mind is mightier. Empower your mind through conversations with men of all ages, races and nationalities. Monday/Wednesday 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Croquet Learn the popular game of Croquet a “traditional backyard recreation game” enjoyed by all ages. Tuesday/Thursday 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Sewing/Quilting

A comprehensive and effective presentation that is designed to provide you with valuable information, tools and resources to make more informed and healthy food choices. One nutrition education session is required on an annual basis for congregate meal program participants.

Bring your own materials and enjoy conversation, technique assistance and the company of fellow craftsmen. Machines and quilting horse provided. Participants create items to donate to area hospitals.

Walking Club

PuzzleRama

We hold the hearts of our senior members in the palm of our hands. Get healthy and fit through walking and low impact exercise. Participants meet at the Senior Life Center and are transported to the Recreation Center.

Everyone loves games. PuzzleRama is a wonderful way to exercise your ingenuity and your wealth of knowledge, as only seniors know. We have a variety of puzzles. Increase your “inductive reasoning aptitude� and discover logic in the palm of your hands. PuzzleRama exercises the mind, body and soul, by challenging you to pick up the pieces and solve the problem. Monday 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Reading is FUN

Tuesday/Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Stretch Xercise Resistance exercise with senior members in mind. Low-impact, yet increases stamina and strength 3rd Wednesday of the month 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Vision 2

This is a majestic group of singing senior adults who meet regularly and performs occasionally at special events throughout the City of Lancaster. Vision 2 also performs throughout the week during the Congregate Meal Program. Monday 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Reading is basic information before leaving earth, and essential to the livelihood of all individuals, so much so that it is the most popular program at the Senior Life Center. Money is fundamental. Wisdom is powerful. Knowledge is an advantage. Nothing, however, compares to the written word on paper. Engaging, energizing, informative and empowering. Re-develop your love of reading.
