With all the rain we have had earlier this year, there has certainly been an increasing amount of mosquitoes! This is due to standing water, which are prime breeding locations for mosquitoes. We have placed mosquito traps strategically throughout Lancaster which are tested weekly for West Nile Virus. On Wednesday, July 29, 2015 Dallas County reported a mosquito trap in Lancaster that had tested POSITIVE for West Nile Virus. Ground spraying was immediately scheduled for the reported area. For more information please contact Dallas County Health and Human Services at (214) 819-2000 or visit www.dallascounty.org/hhs.

To easily decrease mosquitoes in your area, you must decrease any potential mosquito habitats in and around your home. The City of Lancaster has provided FREE mosquito dunks for residents, which are available to be picked up at City Hall, 211 N. Henry Street, and the Development Services Building, 700 E. Main Street. These small dunks are intended to be placed in standing water to kill mosquito larva, in efforts to reduce the mosquito population in your area. For more information on mosquito prevention and the transmittable viruses they may carry, please visit Lancaster-TX. com/FightTheBite.
