Term One Recap • Kelly Sports Kelly Multi Sports was a hit in term one, as the children learnt new skills at each session, and confidently continue to develop those learnt previously, as we focused on summer sports; cricket, basketball and soccer. Two new venues started up in Tullamarine and Wantirna, with numbers continuously growing. During the term we all were watching the Cricket World Cup, and the kids showed extra enthusiasm when participating in Kelly Sports cricket. We were all extremely proud to take home the final, and hope some Kelly Sports cricket stars will emerge from our programs in the future! Kelly Sports Dance focused on hip hop dancing in term one, learning an original dance created by the dance teacher and taught week by week in the session. The kids were able to go home, show their families and practice the dance through watching the weekly updates on the Kelly Sports Australia Facebook page, and also through the Kelly Sports Website. This coming term we are excited about our program featuring modern dance, again with the full dance being taught throughout the term. To check out this term’s dance routine and book your child in to join the fun, visit our website! Kelly Sports Holiday Program made the school holidays just gone a whole lot of fun! The coaches ran a range of sports throughout the two week period and enjoyed seeing a lot of old and new faces. We are impressed to see kids participating and learning new sports which they wouldn’t usually try this year, expanding knowledge skills and experience. As it was Easter during the holidays we ran Easter activities, games
Recap • Kelly Mini Sports Kelly Mini Sports has grown significantly so far this year, now having over 600 kids enrolled in the program by the end of term one. Our fun and energetic approach delivered by expert coaches in a safe and fun environment, allow children aged 1-5 years old to discover sport while developing their fundamental motor skills, confidence and social skills. We concentrate on teaching the basic skills of soccer, football, basketball, cricket and tennis while incorporating fun team work games to build social interaction. We have over 30 locations across Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong and we are regularly opening up new classes each term. From term two, there are four new venues; Geelong, Leopold, Ballarat and Nunawading opening up the program to new areas and a higher number of deserving little ones on the high waiting lists that keep expanding as the year goes on.
Recap • Kelly Club Kelly Club before, after school and holiday programs began in term one, and what a fantastic start to the year. Our programs focused on summer activities; sport, crafts, games, cooking and constructive self-directed play. We’ve had a warm welcome in our new programs, with lots of new enthusiastic faces, and hope to expand Kelly Club into new schools as the year goes on. Throughout term one our summer program concentrated on the natural environment at each venue, with explorative and experimental activities using outdoor materials and also developing fundamental learning with basic cooking and craft. The inclusion of sport is huge, with Kelly Sports coaches attending the program weekly and running seasonal sports and games, keeping kids active and healthy.

and competitions. The holiday program was filled with some exciting sporting competitions, and a World Cup Athletics tournament; where everyone competed in a run, jump and throw event. Cricket was definitely in the air following the Cricket World Cup, so the coaches and kids honed in on cricket skills! We played Soccer, Foam Hockey, learnt a new dance, and even squeezed in some very competitive dodge ball and some water games. For down time, we had Easter coloring competitions, a Kelly Sports movie was created by the kids, there was a Lego build-off and brain power was tested with a trivia challenge. The Easter egg hunt was a whole lot of fun, the kids searched the grounds far and wide, up trees, top of the rock-climbing wall, buried in the sand pit, hiding inside goal posts, but eventually they found them all! Throughout the holiday period coaches saw skills progressing in the variety of sports. AFL and dance sessions were popular in the program, with many kids enrolling into term two sessions at their school. Kelly Sports Pre School coaches focused on invasion and fundamental motor skills within their specialised programs in term one. The coaches saw development from kids that are continuing, and enthusiasm and excitement from new young ones starting this year. A warm welcome from Kelly Sports to our new kindergartens that started last term with Kelly Sports; Good Start Woodend Koala Childcare, and Milestone Kindergarten.

Sports Star Profile Cricket was one of our favourite sports in Term one, and as we were all so involved with the Cricket World Cup we decided to interview one of the stars who played in the final this year Australia vs. New Zealand! Trent answered questions as asked by Kelly Sports and Kelly Club kids around Victoria. How old were you when you started playing cricket? I started cricket at age 11 at intermediate in Tauranga, New Zealand Why did you start playing cricket? I have an older brother who also plays professionally now and just like any other brothers we'd play in the backyard. He would always bat and me being the younger brother - I would always have to bowl. What's your favourite part of the sport? Firstly, getting the chance to represent NZ and secondly having the opportunity to tour the world and play against the best players. Recently we were all so focused on the World Cup, right down to the last game Aus Vs. NZ... How did it feel to play in the final of the World Cup? It was amazing. The support we had all throughout the tournament was awesome. To get there to the final and play in front of 93,000 people was a dream come true. It's still a hard pill to swallow how close we came to pulling it off but I'm sure it has inspired many young kids to be cricket players. And that's the best thing. What's it like to bowl in front of a sold out MCG stadium? I remember watching many games on the tv at the MCG thinking that looks so massive! To get there and actually be bowling out there myself was unreal. Was it different playing the final in front of an Australian audience in comparison to the Aus vs. NZ game in New Zealand? - did that play a part in the outcome? Obviously home support and conditions are a huge advantage. Eden Park was electric when we played Australia in the pool play. There were thousands of kiwis at the final too but it's a pretty intimidating stage when you think of the millions of people watching around the world. In terms of the result, I don't think so. We were just out played by a quality Australian side on the day. Who was the hardest team you had to play in the competition? Definitely Australia. There a highly experienced team and knew the conditions very well. How do you feel about being the opening bowler for your team? I love it. I enjoy running in and trying to set up the game for the team. It's a great feeling getting wickets and hearing the support echo around the ground. Who was the toughest batsman to bowl to? In the World Cup, David Warner comes to mind. He's so strong at hitting bad balls and somehow just as strong at hitting good ones. How do you feel about being one of the world's best bowlers and being so well known now? It's pretty surreal when you think of all the bowlers in the world. I've always had high ambitions of wanting to be the best. But at the moment I'm just taking it each game as it comes. I'm just really grateful for every opportunity I do get and trying to make the most of it. What's a fun fact about you? I've been playing guitar since I was 5 years old. I take one with me on every tour and play before each game to calm the nerves. Do you have a favourite cricket player of all time? Dale Steyn and Wasim Akram. Both amazing fast bowlers who I've watched for years. When you were young did you ever think you would become such a great sportsman? I've loved sports all my life. All through school I would try play as many sports as I could. To think now that I'm still running around playing these games, I just feel like a big kid playing cricket on a Saturday morning. What advice do you have for young sporting kids? Go out there and give it a crack! If it's cricket, rugby, surfing or golf - someone's got to be the best. Why can't it be you?
