LOCAL CULTURE: MALACCA EMPIRE 在地文化 : ⿇六甲 王朝 (1402 AD - 1511 AD)
Melaka was founded by Parameswara, a Hindu prince from Palembang/Sumatra, around the year 1400. Legend has it that when Parameswara reached Melaka from Muar, he sat down under a tree for a rest. While res ng he saw something strange. A mousedeer (known locally as 'pelanduk'), which was being chased by a dog, suddenly turned around and a acked its pursuer, pu ng it to flight. Impressed by the bravery of this ny, docile animal, Parameswara decided there and then, that, that site would be the site of his new kingdom. He decided to call his new kingdom Melaka a er the name of the tree under which he was res ng. During the course of the next hundred years Melaka developed as the most important entreport port in this part of the world .

Egg Container The Combination between Egg and Wood
An egg has a unique shape which is an unequal oval with a wide bo om narrowing up to the top. When you look down from right top, it has a perfect circle plan. It also has a solid form shell with smooth surface which doesn't change its' shape .

Using this unique characteris c of an egg, you can carve a speciďŹ c tunnel into the wooden plank which is circle at the entrance and egg shaped in the interior. Therefore , you can put the egg in by straighten it when entering and with a little twist ,it will stay in the wooden box ďŹ rmly without needing any caps.

The egg container is designed to be hold facing the opening downwards ,therefore the user rely totally on the touch of the fingers .The size of the wooden box fits between the two palms and the posi on of the holes are opened randomly at the reach of the fingers when holding the box .Thus when trying to get the eggs out, you have to depend totally on the feeling of your fingers to roll the eggs out with out seeing it .
Tamsui is a sea-side district in New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. It is named after the Tamsui River; the name means "fresh water". The town is popular as a site for viewing the sun setting into the Taiwan Strait. Though modest in size (population 158,953), and has a large role in Taiwanese culture. The Spanish arrived in the area of Tamsui in the 17th century. In the fall of 1629, the Spanish established the first major nonaboriginal settlement comprising the town and mission of Santo Domingo. The Spanish occupied northern Taiwan for the purpose of securing Spanish interests in the Philippines against the Dutch (who were already established in the South of Taiwan by then), the British, and the Portuguese, as well as for facilitating trade with China and Japan.
Tamsui district is a place which is rich in history.The town is located at a hill side over watching the Tamsui River . Because of the early development, the town was developed “organically”instead of a formal urban planning. Therefor there are a lot of interes ng spaces and rela ons between the alleys and the architectures. The house design concept is base on 09pm~04:00pm 10:00am~04:00pm imita ng the interes ng spaces of the alley and also integrate it with the surroundings at the same me.
In 1641, the Spanish were expelled from Taiwan by the Dutch. The original Greek idea of ratio is a ver y abstract idea. To draw a rectangle, it was about the energy of one line in relation to the energy of the other line. It was not about the shape. Importantly it was a ratio or frozen time constricting durring the movements in space ,middle, you have the arithmetical mean. Move the bead a little more, you get the golden ratio. geometric mean, harmonic mean. All of these come from just a movement of a position in a line. Classical geometr y is about taking different positions.

The motion of Space The movement, the slow changing of space, and the feeling of how it changes, gives us the dimension of me in the tectonic. Ve c
A square, structurally the center of gravity is in the middle of the space. If we want to make new space, we have to study the configura on of four walls in space. To create something new, move two of the four walls outwardly, and change the support arrangement in plan and sec on. But the center of gravity is exactly the same. By looking at the configura on of four walls in rela on to the space, is created as a space of direc on, a vector. It is not like a “table”. Stable Space

The Entertainment of Motion What makes mo on entertaining? Noh is a tradi onal performance art of Japan. Noh actors always move quite deliberately ,like looking at a ďŹ lm in slow mo on. The actors’ movements are extremely slow and abstract but con nuous. At a an unexpected ming ,there is a sudden large movement following a con nues medium movement.

Capturing the Entertainment of Motion into Space Like the moment of a Noh actor, begins moving, an unstable condi on is created. That instability, in seeking to restore stability, calls forth the next instability. There is a succession of states. The successive genera on of tension makes space exci ng.
