Almost 80% of the households in Redfern consisit of only 1 or 2 people. Small household could potentially lead to many problems, such as the increase of rent and of time spending on houseworks, living alone could also have higher risk of mental issues.
The Concept The concept is to create a system of private and sharing spaces on different levels. For example, each floor has two bedrooms and one toilet, and the whole block shares a living room and a courtyard, every two blocks share a kitchen and the whole building and community share a large outdoor space which also visually-connect to the courtyard.
Communal Space
Connecting the east and west side of the site by creating a large walk way consist of three platforms, leaving setback for the heritage on the north and use it as a long ramp for people with inconveniency. The second platform, which situated in the centre of the building, is the key space to activate the community. With its high accessibility and flexibility of space, it could be use for communal events.

Commercial Levels
The strategy of the interior design of this space is try to neutralise the industrial feeling of the original material but also to indicate the structure that has been removed.

Apartment Levels By taking out one in every four silos, evey silo would at least have two sides of the view and the natural lighting and ventilation condition would be improved. The layout of the apartments try to free the peripheral area of the cylinder and let the circular space be fully experienced by the residents.

The challenge does not lie in turning the silos into a typical apartment, in which every unit is isolated with little open space on the peripheral area of the ground floor which usually has the lowest value. So in order to create a better living environment, the silos need a variety of public space.

The Recreation Level
$$$ The silos is located on the heart of the Glebe island and much taller than the surrounding building with the Anzac Parade Running in front of it. All of this make the roof of the silos extremely valuable. The billboard on top could significantly reduce the rent for the residents, (the existing billboard on the silos reportedly charged $ 250,000 for 28 days in the late 2013) But the roof should not just be a money - oriented place, the location also makes its roof an ideal place for sightseeing and recreation for the residents. The left part of the roof functions as a garden for recreation and the ramp on the right, with recreation spaces underneath, could take people higher for the better view.
Using the stairwells as main supports for the new billboard.

Urban Condition Studio Assignment
The objective is to modify and adapt an existing parking building into a local art centre that serves not only as a gallery or a studio for artists and art, but also serves the purpose of connecting people as a public place.

How to bring people together?
For Art
Allow studios and gallery to sit side by side
ART
For Public The site is in a dense area with scarce public space. Open the ground floor as a park and integrate it into the city by four entrances
ART HEART PUBLIC
ARTIST
The Art Heart is a place for artists to work, to think and to communicate; for the public to appreciate, to learn and to connect. Unlike classical art, Contemporary art is mostly focus on social issues, so this design has considered what it can offer to the city and society. As a heart, what this building trying to achieve is to bring people, including artists and the public, together with art.

Atrium
There are four approaches applied to the project to make the building an actual heart of the community: - Make the entrances open and visible - Utilise the car park as advertisements - Entirely open the ground floor as public space - Use an Atrium to increase the visual connection in the buidling and passive cooling ability.

The existing building is barely visible from the street due to the site is situated in a space which are closely surrounded by other buildings. Hence the major challenge is how can a building attract and connect the local people together in a such closed space.

Section A Section B The Atrium also significantly increase the sustainability of the building. The first floor and the ground floor are open, the prevailing Louvre wind could readily travel through. By installing manual-control louvres above the door or on the root of certain walls and Double glazing under the roof, the atrium would act as a large air chimney , the hot air would easily flow through the room Louvre and eventually released from the louvres under the roof.
Louvre
The project is located in ShaXi County, YunNan Province. The owner, through crow-funding, purchased the site and promise to give his contributer a spiritual retreat for expressing and experiencing thoughts and arts.
House of a hundred friends How to live with the climate Status: In construction Responsibility: Concept design, physical and digital modelling, rendering and drafting Software: Archicad,Autocad,Sketchup,Rhino,Enscape,Photoshop
The weather and temperature are consistantly pleasant throughout the year in Shaxi. The high transparency and the fresh touch of the air makes it a somewhat surreal experience that wakes up people’s appreciation of the natural environment. The challenge of this project is how do we not live under, but live with this incredible climate?
The existing building was decaying and no longer safe to live in, but we decided to utilise the foundation and build only within the boundaries of it, which also allows us to respect the traditional spatial fabric of this town.

When the fireplace is lit up, the fire will heat up the living room and the smoke with heat will travel through the metal pipe and warm up the bedroom upstairs.

Master Bedroom The master bedroom serves not only as a place to sleep but also to work, to think, to read and to relax. The opportunity to a bath is valued in this project as a bath, unlike a shower which is more efficient, should offer more serenity and relaxation.

Guest Rooms
The guest rooms are focusing both on the connection with the outside nature and the solitude that lies within. The neighbours have an agreement in which they do not open windows against each other, which provides a great opportunity to enjoy the view without privacy being infringed. The chance to appreciate the view should not be limited as a window in front of lounge space, but be integrated into almost every part of daily life.
