Red part is what can be related to my other academic works listed

Generally speaking, this project a super block map representing human behavior and activities. The chosen block has biggest diversity among blocks I explored in Kyoto, Japan. After locating all diffenret buiding and their functions, I looked up certain manga scenes that can be related to these fuctions. Based on my own experience during the trip in Kyoto and knowledge about Japanses life style, I either modified the scenes by adding text and lines, or combined some scenes as one to make each frame rational. And, finally, I played around the direction of each frame, so one can see this map from different directions just like one enters a block from different directions.

1. According to Parisian context, stand buildings right next to the sidewalk

2. Carve out a passage to responce to the canal

3. Create two courtyards to reduce the mass

4. Cut o the side parts to get more air and light

5. Place townhouse and factory to responce to the neighbor and abandoned railway.

The site, located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, is at the quite intriguing intersection of Canal de l’Ourcq and the now abandoned Petite Ceinture (The Little Belt). The investment has been growing in student housing projects and high-rise apartments as the population expands and several design shools rise up in this former industrial area. 4

6. Lower the middle part to give more light to the passage

Remembering the past and looking into the future, this proposal was decided to design a mixused complex with housing, luxury stores, design oďŹƒces and manufacturing warehouses for students and professionals to live, study and work all in one place. From the urban standpoint, a commercial passage was carved out perpendicular to the canal, which splits the site into two parts. On each side, buildings surround communal courtyards. Facing the abandoned railway, light industrial manufacturing spaces were brought in for students and professionals to work. And visitors could also customize the goods they were buying into their own style at the related stores in the passage. Where facing low-density apartment blocks, a row of townhouses were designed right on the edge of the site, to give a smooth transition to the high-rise apartments behind. 6

The Rooftop loggia using the same shape cover with the passage, becomes another elevated passage connecting verticle, and provides a party space for residents.

The Studio apartments facing the manufacturing warehouses gives a lively and motivative working view.

4th Floor 35 ft

The Glazed cover of the passage separating the vertivle open space, gives residents an incredibly transparent view to the comercial street.

The Manufactories that are related to the retails in the passage present a space for professionals and student living in this complex to work and study in one whole space.

Surrounded by apartments, town houses and retails, the private courtyard contribute a enjoyable space to residents.

The Scottich Rite Mansoni Temple. The style of the temple include touches of Syrian, Greek and Egyptian architecture. For many years it served the public, with the large auditorium often made available for theatrical productions.

On the south shore near the bridge was one of the four Pel- sang boatyards. The largest vessel at that time was built here named Jessie Fay. Much of the south shore in this sec- tion developed with commercial fish houses and bouatyards early in Miami’s history.

The old Fort Dallas “long building” was rebuilt in Lummus Park. The builidng was used as a store, post office, residence and a restaurant in 1925.

‘Wagner” house moved into Lummus Park near the old Fort Dallas “long building”. It is the earliest preserved wooden house in Dade County. This and the long building are the two oldest buildings in Miami.

2015 The design is trying to ďŹ nd a way to respond to the linear and irregular site in a rational way, letting the main programs of the building interact with each other and become an integrated whole. The design is based on a module of 35 ft by 35 ft. The main bar building sitting following the linear site is made of the module repeating six times; and the slightly curved building, sitting on the south celebration the transition of the site, is based on two modules. Structurally speaking, the design is to recall the traditional and vernacular roof structure and express it in a more modern way. The building has a liner footprint; with a giant shed roof structure almost taking up half of the space in elevation, forming a repetitive, simple, and strong rhythm that could be clearly seen on the other side of the river. We hope the cleanness, simplicity, and continuity of the building could somehow revoke the initial passion of for the river and for life.

In this small office, that has quite limited area, It is impossible to place all the required programs. In order to fulfill the demand, a sulotion to integrate the programs needs to be worked out.

By exploring the staffs touching on Pinifarina, the contertible roof of Ferrari 448 spider was found as an inpiration which led to final concept of space conversion.

To accomplish the space conversion, A wall product was designed. With the built-in power, wheels and receiving system, all walls in a controlled network can adapt themselves to create different layout of spaces based on different requirement. And 3 scenarios are designed.
