AI and algorithmic decision-making systems
The development of AI has rapidly expanded over the last two decades. Alongside the increasingly sophisticated use of this technology, including as a tool enabling repressions and social control, setting appropriate standards for it has made it to the top of the agendas of several human rights organisations in recent years. The most comprehensive work has been done within the UN and CoE, while other regional organisations, such as the OSCE, have focused on more specific AI applications. On the international level, a response to the growing prevalence of AI has been an essential element of the UN Secretary General’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the field of digital technologies.
