PERFORMANCE REPORT
By JAYCI LEE BYLER – Performance Reporter
Region VII Cowboys and Cowgirls packed a punch at High School State finals by having 17 contestants make it to the short go.
The Cinderella story was Madison Outhier, a senior, who had never made the short go at her previous three state finals. She came in first round with a 2.43 to place 8th, Second round she was a 2.00 for first place, Short go 2.32 for a third place, and a combined 6.750 on three head to win the Average Champion and the Texas State Breakaway Champion title.
Colin Fox, a sophomore, made the short go in two events. This cowboy showed off his remarkable athleticism in the calf roping with a 4th place Texas State Finals. Then came in with a driving force in the Steer Wrestling placing in every round and winning the Average & Texas State Champion Steer Wrestling title.
Jayci Byler, a junior, made the short go in all three of her events and successfully ended up claiming the All Around Champion Cowgirl title for the second time in her career and placing 4th in the barrel racing to be heading to Nationals.
Region VII couldn’t be more proud of their small Lil Region and the tough competitors that represented them at the state finals. Good luck to Team Texas at the National High School Rodeo Finals.
