Origins & Destinations - Greece 3 A trip to Rome was not on the plan. Or, rather, it was, just not in December. As they say in Italy, sfidare la sorte has thrown a few curves in my life, and in search of healing for my little Elia, we boarded a plane to Rome on December 2nd.
Italy greeted us with war mth, love, care, compassion, and, most importantly, hope. As I walked through the streets of Rome in little time free from hospital visits, I understood why. T he qualities that are so essential in life but are being dismissed more and more in wester n world, are the core of Italian culture. T heir love for life is real. T heir appreciation for beauty is in every step. You can’t help but see things in a different, better, light. Hope is engraved in every cor nerstone of every building. You see it. You feel it, too. T his issue is coming out right at the start of the new year. I want you to make a wish. T hen, imagine yourself by the Trevi Fountain. Toss a coin with your eyes closed. Italians say, it comes true. I want to believe that mine & Elia’s will too. T his edition is different from anything you’ve seen before. Apart from new artistic takes, Rome editorial is dedicated to little Elia. As you tur n its pages, let yourself transport to the place that is filled with beauty, life & happiness. T he essence of La Dolce Vita. Olya Hill

Rome’s Rollercoaster Ride: The Republic’s Turbulent Journey
The Complexity of Growth Rome’s Internal and External Struggles As Rome’s dominion expanded, complexity seeped into the fabric of its existence. Internal conflicts and political upheavals roiled within the city walls, mirrored by external threats and confrontations from rival factions and foreign adversaries. This multifaceted dynamic plunged the republic into a state of flux, shaking its very foundation. The Tumultuous Shift From Many Leaders to the Reign of Emperors Amidst this turmoil, a pivotal shift altered the course of Rome’s history—a transition from a republic governed by a group of elected officials to a system ruled by a single emperor. This transformation ushered in a new era that brought both periods of prosperity and challenging times. The Dual Facets of Change Navigating the Ups & Downs The shift to a centralized power under the leadership of emperors brought a semblance of stability and efficiency to Rome. The administration gained coherence, providing swift decisions and unified governance. However, this centralization also led to challenges, including issues of tyranny, succession crises, and the occasional autocratic rule, which often resulted in turbulent times. Rome’s Legacy Lessons from Triumphs and Trials Rome’s journey from a republic to an empire embodies the ebb and flow of history’s tides. It teaches valuable lessons about the delicate balance between decentralized governance & centralized authority. The republic’s tumultuous phases and the subsequent emergence of imperial rule serve as a historical crucible for understanding the nuances of governance and the evolution of power structures. The Republic’s transformative journey through exciting victories and challenging setbacks encapsulates the essence of Rome’s dynamic history. It serves as a reminder that amidst the exhilarating triumphs, the tumultuous periods of internal strife, and the eventual shift to imperial rule, Rome stood as a microcosm of human civilization—ever-evolving, resilient, and endlessly fascinating.

Let’s go for a spin!” They raced towards the carousel, giggling with anticipation. Leo picked a majestic horse adorned with golden trinkets, while Sophia chose a charming carriage, painted in vibrant hues. “Here we go!” Leo shouted, as the carousel started its merry spin. Up and down they went, the wind in their hair, laughter filling the air as the colorful lights danced around them.

“Look, Sophia! The square looks like a fairytale!” Leo exclaimed, marveling at the magical atmosphere. Sophia grinned, taking in the lively scenes—the joyful laughter of children, the cheerful music, and the lively street performers enchanting the crowd with their acts. As the carousel slowed down, Leo and Sophia hopped off, breathless from the whirlwind ride. They stood in the midst of Piazza Navona, soaking in the festive ambiance, feeling the energy of the square pulsating around them. “Dear Piazza Navona! You’re like a dream come true,” Sophia whispered, looking at the colorful carousel and the vibrant square. With twinkles in their eyes and hearts brimming with laughter, Leo and Sophia bid a fond farewell to Piazza Navona. As they strolled through the ancient streets, the echoes of their joy lingered in the air. “Goodbye, Piazza Navona! You’re magical,” Sophia whispered, casting a wistful gaze back at the colorful carousel and the bustling square. Leo nodded, a smile playing on his lips. “We’ll be back, Rome! Your adventures have been magical too.”

based photographer, grew up among his dad’s rolls of film and camera lenses with many hours spent at shoots and in the darkroom having endless conversations on techniques, composition, & what it takes to create compelling images. Bobby’s singular perspective, creativity, and storytelling abilities combined with his technical perfection are apparent in every single one of his shots. His experience, expertise, and ability to create are very diverse. Bobby is able to create imagery that one would expect to be found in National Geographic just as easily as capturing street style in a film-like matter. He is also fully accomplished in producing commercial imagery. His unique take on seemingly ordinary objects & the ability to combine that with clients’ vision is one of Bobby’s biggest strengths.
