PARENTS & GUARDIANS

“It’s very exciting to see kids in swim lessons learn new skills and have a blast in the water. Knowing that I taught them a skill that they will remember for a long time is inspiring!”

If your child is under 7 years of age, please take them to the pool deck and wait with them until their instructor has arrived, then pick them up from the pool deck following each lesson.

This 10-level program helps swimmers develop the five main swimming strokes—front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke, breast stroke, and sidestroke—which supports learning how to be safe in, on, and around the water. The program also increases fitness and endurance through enjoyable activities.

CAMPS PARENT INFORMATION

MEDICAL & EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION Upon registration, please ensure your child’s medical and emergency contact information is up to date. Inform camp leaders if your child requires medication while in our care. Staff may assist in reminding children when to take medication but, children should be self-sufficient in administering it.

SIGN IN/OUT You will be expected to sign your child in and out with their camp leaders at the beginning and end of each day. If your child is 9yrs+ and you feel comfortable with their release from camp without adult supervision, communicate this with reception or program leaders prior to program start.

WHAT TO PACK?

ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT

Ensure your child comes to camp wearing comfortable play clothes, appropriate for indoor and outdoor activities, along with whatever items may be needed for the planned activities. Rain or shine, camps may head outside!

Panorama Recreation offers one-on-one support for children with disabilities to participate in summer day camps at no additional cost. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. In order for us to provide support to as many families as possible, each child may be registered for a maximum of one week to start. For questions and support requests, please contact Ryan at rjsmith@panoramarec. bc.ca or 250-360-3359

Send your child with healthy snacks, plenty of water and, if attending a fullday program, a nutritious lunch. We do not permit campers to use vending machines during camp hours. We follow a pack-in/pack-out policy with programs so, all snack and lunch-time waste will be sent home. Please keep in mind our centres are nut-aware zones. Ask your child to leave all personal toys, games, electronics and extra spending money at home. Cell phones or other electronics must remain in bags throughout the day.

VOLUNTEER WITH SUMMER DAY CAMPS

FAMILIES WITH PRIVATE SUPPORT WORKERS If you are interested in providing your own support worker for your child, please contact us in advance of registration.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS Camp refunds and cancellations follow our regular policies. See page 73 for details.

Gain employability skills and professional experience, fulfill graduation requirements and connect with children & families in the community by volunteering with summer camps! Visit the Volunteer Opportunities section of our website under About Us or contact the appropriate program coordinator for current opportunities or more information.

PAINTING AND DRAWING ON POTTERY

DISCOVER NEW FORMS IN CLAY

13 yrs+

13 yrs+ The roundness of pots set up unique challenges when it comes to drawing and painting on the surface. This workshop will give you ways to approach these challenges. We will practice brushwork and drawing on a 2-D surface and then transfer this to our forms. Design and composition will be discussed. Some clay experience is needed for this workshop. Please bring a bisque fired pot to this workshop to practice techniques.

Are you finding that most of your work in clay has similar shapes? This workshop will be energetic and messy! We will work quickly to map out different shapes and ways of working. The shapes discovered during the three hours can then lead new expressions in clay. Pottery experience in either handbuilding or wheel work is required. The newly formed Kiwanis Club of Sidney & Saanich Peninsula is making a name for itself in our community! We have just completed our first foray at running the Kiwanis Café at the Panorama Rec Centre and because of our success there, have been asked to continue at Rotary Park for the baseball season. We are thrilled at this opportunity and are excited to be so involved in the community. Kiwanis’ motto is “Serving the Children of the World” and of the more than 7000 clubs we make a powerful force for serving children and changing lives. Every penny we make in our projects is going towards a new playground at Greenglade Community Centre and to assist in the building of seating at the newly completed Skate Park at Tulista Park.

We would love your help!

If you are ready to help children and families in our community, come visit us and find out what we are all about. Contact Ken at 250.888.0567 for more information.
