RAYANA Location - Hoshiarpur, Punjab Residential Project

Project Rayana is focused more towards modern architecture demonstrating minimalistic design. The building sits horizontally o the site from the front facade, where as the roof acts as an element of emphasis by juxtraposing the form. Spaces are designed to satisfy feelings of a family retreat, especially with it’s carefully designed verandahs that act as lounge spaces to relax and connect with nature. The building materials are proposed to be the locally sourced nanakshahi brick as per client requests, but also an option of a combination of plaster and lime washed walls are provided as per the likings of the client.

Basic form of the structure is focused more towards modern architecture demonstrating minimalistic design, using simple cuboids with a series of private spaces around a single common space.

Verandahs in the farmhouse are carved in a particular way. They are a resultant of massive blocks, without their core mass. The frame of the block defines the extent of the space, resulting in a crisp semi-open entity. The entrance verandah is the main expression of the overall form of the building. Furthermore, the character is immitated by the private sitout spaces for the bedrooms.

The roof is an element which contrasts the orthogonal architecture of the building. It is a single lean-to roof with a gentle slope of 20 degrees. It is the main source of natural light for the core space which is living and dining area. The structure of the sloping roof is locally manufactured using glulam wood (silver oak), and is covered with toughened glass.

COCO . B Location - Pune, Maharashtra An Archmello design competition entry - Honourable Mention

Coffee Consortium Brewery, aka CoCo.B, is inspired and developed from the concept of nurturing into the coffee society, perhaps just a little more than a cup every day. The design focuses on accommodating a varied level of activities and user groups into smaller Capsules along a Street, that runs longitudinal to the site. The spatial planning integrates a hierarchy of various such capsules that ranges from closed formal to open informal seating, including multiple types of semi-open zones, all set to the east. Spaces like a small business counter promoting indigenous coffee goods, a space for kids, parents, and a focused quite corner with greens for freelancers, etc are also provided as we move deeper into the street.

An off-center spine is introduced into the site to behave as a street with secondary access points leading us to 4 major people oriented capsules.

12

COMPETITION : Archmello 2021

Openings into the site to ensure the vivid seperation of public and semi public zones, and a massing that can accomodate west winds into the site with adequate buffer and shading.

Placing the institute as primary mass at the end of an informal cul-de-sac and seating zones toward east inviting for quiter spaces as we venture deeper into the site.

SANGMA RESIDENCE Location - 3rd mile Upper Shillong, Meghalaya Residential Project

Sangma Residence is a luxury residential project that emphasises on strength using its massivness. The project consists of three structures placed carefully on an L-shaped site. The three structures have their exclusively designed wooden roof structure that visually connect them. The Office Pavilion building is planned near the entrance. The driveway leads to the Main House, which is an L shaped building with a private garden at its south west corner. The formal and informal living areas and the dining space, all open up to a verandah with the garden’s view. On the southern side of the family room, a recreational space is created with a court, a glass house, and swimming pool structure around it. Staff quarters and the services are planned along the north east corner of site.

MOOD BOARD The interiors of this project is based on a modern representation of the classical wooden style. Wall panelling, false ceiling, flooring, furniture, doors and windows are chosen and designed carefully to best convey this style. Large wooden wall panels, marble of beige with brown inlays, solid wood doors and windows, chandeliers, furniture reflecting luxury and comfort are some of the elemnts that are used to express the client’s taste.

The floor is divided into North and South Wings by a central service core. Access to both sides are given through passages along this core. The Northern plate comprises of gathering spaces like meeting rooms, reception and pantry, where as Southern plate focuses on individualised spaces like cabins and cubicles, derived from an activity based planning suitable for a workspace.

Type 1 cabins (220sft) are placed in a row along the Southern-most side of the building lined with niched windows creating opportunity for a customised design feature. Type 2 (160sft) cabins are scattered throughout the floor plate both in the North and Southern wings, where as cubicles are placed in the central portion of the Southern plate to create a vast openness.

A large 30 Pax Conference room is zoned close to the lift lobby, for ease of access without disturbing the rest of the spaces. Meeting rooms, 8 pax and 6 pax, are accessible to all zones both in the Northern and Southern plates.

Informal areas such as the reception lounge, collboration zone, waiting lounges, are placed at the entrance from the lift lobby on both Northern and Southern plates. Pantry and Balcony are provided in the Northern wing to prevent major traffic in the Southern wing,

Space Planning The floor space is carefully distributed on either sides of the Northern and the Southern wings so as to satisfy design contrains as well as client satisfaction. The Northern wing constitues the reception, a pantry, a double height balcony, a large conference room, a smaller discussion room, the MD’s cabin and a couple of other smaller cabins. Type #2 cabins are placed both in the Northern wing as well as the Southrn wing with easy access to both sides through passages along the central core of the building. A number of informal zones have been incorporated throughtout and the cabins are strategically placed in the Southern wing to maintain heirachy while also breaking monotony.
