Hacer sostenible en los próximos años el crecimiento del producto interno bruto (PIB), que en 2021 cerró en 7.5 por ciento, es la meta que se ha fijado el Gobierno de Guatemala, afirmó el presidente Alejandro Giammattei durante su participación virtual en el Foro de Davos, organizado por el Foro Económico Mundial (WEF, por sus siglas en inglés).

“El reto es cómo hacemos sostenible el crecimiento a lo largo de muchos años, para que podamos, con la derrama económica, recuperar no solo el empleo, sino hacer que la migración se detenga, generando muros de prosperidad”, indicó el mandatario el 19 de enero pasado durante su disertación.

encuentre empleo, vivienda, salud, educación y seguridad y, de esa cuenta, no tenga motivos para irse” del país.

El reto, subrayó, irá de la mano con la certeza jurídica, que es importante en la atracción de inversiones. Al respecto, destacó que en 2020 esta variante económica cerró en US $600 millones, por lo que se propusieron duplicarla el año pasado (US$1200 millones), aunque se recibieron US$3394 millones es decir, “casi se triplicó”.

Durante su intervención el Presidente también resaltó la importancia de trabajar unidos en el ámbito intrarregional, para aumentar el comercio entre los países.

“The challenge is how to make growth sustainable for many years, so that with the economic flow, we may recover not only employment but also stop migration, generating walls of prosperity,” said the President on January 19 during his speech.

President Giammattei considered that the distribution of wealth would allow “people to find employment, housing, health, education and security and, therefore, have no reason to leave” the country. The challenge, he stressed, will go hand in hand with legal certainty, which is essential in attracting investment. In this respect, he highlighted that in 2020 this economic variant closed at US$600 million, for which they proposed to double last year’s (US$1200 million), although US$3394 million were received; in other words, “it almost tripled.”

During his speech, the President emphasized the importance of working together in the intra-regional sphere to increase trade between countries.
