Guatemala will host the summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) leaders. In May, they will discuss actions to promote regional development and address the effects of climate change next May.



“It is the second most important regional representation, after the Organization of American States, and we currently chair it,” said Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro.
According to the entity’s web page, among the objectives of the meeting are strengthening regional cooperation and the integration process to create an expanded economic space in the region.
The Agenda
One of the topics is the effects of climate change. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Búcaro stated, “In all the forums, President Alejandro Giammattei has expressed the importance of recognizing that Guatemala is a country vulnerable to the effects of climate change and the importance of compensation.”
The Minister also stated, “the blue agenda is another item for discussion since the sea, which has a very important effect on poverty reduction, has been ignored.”
