El presidente Alejandro Giammattei acudió a la sede de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), donde se llevó a cabo la Sesión Protocolar del Consejo Permanente de la Organización de los Estados Americanos.

Durante su intervención destacó que “Guatemala es un país soberano e independiente”, así como habló de los avances que se han tenido.

Se asumen retos

El mandatario inició recordando que Guatemala adoptó con firmeza la Carta de la OEA y la Convención de Derechos Humanos. “Señora presidenta, estos compromisos se siguen cumpliendo con la convicción y el firme propósito de consolidar cada día más una democracia sólida”, indicó.

Cambio climático

El gobernante recordó que Guatemala es uno de los 10 países con mayor vulnerabilidad ante el cambio climático, por lo que hizo un llamado para combatirlo. “Somos la región más vulnerable y amenazada por el cambio climático, ya que este genera graves consecuencias e impactos en nuestro desarrollo”.

Seguridad alimentaria

Giammattei reconoció que durante su gobierno ha encaminado estrategias para contrarrestar la inseguridad alimentaria y nutricional.

Migración

El jefe de Estado enfatizó, además, que Guatemala es un país que se ha comprometido con los migrantes, pero sobre todo con desarrollar la construcción de muros de prosperidad, como fomentar el desarrollo económico, generación de empleo y así frenar la migración irregular.

Lucha contra el narcotráfico

Guatemala continúa trabajando en la implementación de las

recomendaciones emitidas por el Comité de Expertos, del Mecanismo de Seguimiento para la Implementación de la Convención Interamericana contra la Corrupción (Mesicic).

Sin embargo, destacó que se mantienen las medidas de seguridad y control terrestre, marítimo y aéreo aumentando el número de incautaciones.

Por último, el presidente destacó que esta nación avanza con una agenda hacia la recuperación, reconstrucción, seguridad y desarrollo. “Somos la economía más resiliente de las Américas y la más grande de Centroamérica, según nuestros indicadores macroeconómicos favorables, confirmados por las tres principales agencias”, puntualizó.
