-I have recorded the details of this metal-framed glass door to my best observation during my one night stay at the retreat. From my understanding through reading of various publications of Mr Ng Sek San's practice to collect old building materials and parts for recycling, and in view of the only odd number of this glass door found in this retreat, it leads to my conclusion that this metal-framed glass door must has been recycled from his collection. -The following design features have fascinated me:
D-S1 6
1_A built-up metal door frame that overcomes the heaviness of the material to exude a light weight aesthetics. 2_A built-up metal door frame that observes all traditional details of beading to hold glass panel in place, a composite metal door frame comprising metal hollow section, flat and C-channel that overlaps with the door opening to fulfill weather proofing. 3_A customized metal pivote hinge design to cater for a 180-degree swing to park the door parallel to the wall.

O - CIRCLE ORCHID PAVILION_Martin Goh ORCHID PAVILION
As an addition to Singapore's famed National Orchid Garden with the largest display of tropical orchids in the world.
SITE SELECTION AND OBSERVATION OP
-S1
Existing beautiful greenery with mature trees can be seen along both sides of the existing circulation track. A straight forward approach is taken of selecting an empty patch to park my proposed Orchid Pavilion in keeping with the existing strategy and planning of scattering various orchid related attractions on both sides of the circulation route/track.
DESIGN INTERVENTION
Existing tree are kept with least disturbance to the beautiful existing greenery of the chosen site through the proposal of a minimum physical footprint and the shortest direct connection in the form of a plaza to receive the general public, departing and arriving along the existing circulation track. Topographically inspired architectural form and structural system are conceived with main functional spaces initiated as circular footprints, structural configuration in circular & radial framing and stacking of 50mm by 50mm G.S. S.H.S. to further reinforce the design intention to relate to the topography. Tangent points are applied to connect the three circular footprints of orchid gallery, café/retail space and outdoor arena into a free flowing form that is able to blur the boundary between the indoor and outdoor spaces. A visitor is able to move along the seemingly free flowing curve that leads & connects one into the sheltered café/retail space, out into the outdoor, into the semi-sheltered orchid gallery, out into the outdoor again and back into the enclosed outdoor arena which is open to the sky. This sequential experience of the programmatic functions is threaded through the meandering curvature of the proposed pavilion.
7 3 8
5
Enclosure of the spaces is conceived as eight stacked tiers that act as both the roofing as well as the seating over the orchid gallery and café/retail space which are enclosed, and under the outdoor arena which is open to the sky. This is intended to better blend & merge the new pavilion with the existing topography. A skylight over the center at the top of the pavilion, granite over the horizontal surfaces/tiers and louvered glass proposed in between the eight tiers are intended to shelter the café/retail space from the rain. Whereas the orchid gallery is shaded by the perforated G.S. sheet that replaces the granite over the horizontal tiers with the vertical surfaces in between the tiers open to the weather to allow water into the pavilion with hanging trays of orchids on display.
9 4
10
Entire architecture/pavilion as seating terrain is achieved as a result of the new orchid pavilion being conceived as eight tiers of 450mm each that are stacked either internally or externally over the functional spaces below, thus allowing a more interesting and intricate spatial form that is either converging or diverging towards the sky.
6
Modular system is applied to both the structure and architecture to facilitate off-site pre-fabrication to allow ease of production, transportation and assembly of the pavilion which can be dismantled and relocated for any reuse in the future. As a result, a more cost-efficient and refine architecture is made possible. 2 1
Simple material template of structural framing in galvanized steel hollow sections, cement-rendered concrete floor, roof/seating in the form of stair tread to finish in granite or/& G.S. perforated sheet, risers as void or/& in louvered glass.

MADA GALLERY_Holly Shi DESIGN CONCEPT The design idea of MADA (Monash Art Design and Architecture) gallery was based on the site and the casts that I made. The side is located in the opposite of Monash university, beside Caufield train station. The side of the land is a slope with different levels. Base on the idea of contour line I created a few casts translated into architectural form. Some key features that are also inspired by casts which include skylight, window, screen and texture. Concrete was used as main material for exterior and for the courtyard light grey granite was used to match the concrete texture. The interior of the gallery used timber to create contrast between interior and exterior as such the gallery will look sharp in the exterior and a warm atmosphere in the interior. The gallery includes reception, cafe, book store, exhibition space, projection room, storage room and rest space which are courtyard and roof. The courtyard is designed for getting the natural light into the interior space and can also use for the exhibition area.

ST HELENS GATEHOUSE _Ross Brewin
DESIGN CONCEPT The proposed St Helens Gatehouse is a new public toilet which will soon replace the existing poor quality toilet at St Helens Waterfront in Tasmania. The main idea of the gatehouse is to relate the existing toilet location which is located in the entry of the St Helens town. The current toilet location poses as a gate to the St Helens town. Inspired by the idea of the entry gate, a new gatehouse will be designed which will help connect the town and the waterfront. It will create a comfortable atmosphere for people to use the facility. Since St Helens is rich in history of tin mining the gatehouse will be using tin corrugated panel as a primary material. The corrugated tin panel will be turned into cylinder shape tubes to express the sense of repetitiveness of the wall. For the interior/private space wall toilet and shower room will be located. The interior of the wall will be black and yellowish skylight above as it creates an atmosphere of the tin mining shaft. To make the construction easy the gatehouse is designed with prefabricated corrugated panel. The prefabricated panel will save huge amount of time and it will also save huge amount of money. As the area is urbanized the theme of the gatehouse will be able to create a similar atmosphere of the surrounding area. The new gatehouse will be able to provide numerous toilets, spacious shower rooms and it is reported that the previous toilet has no facility for disabled. Now toilets for disabled people will also be placed and baby change areas will also be provided for people to use it without disturbing other people using the facility and it also gives space for parents and guardians to change with ease. It will also use high-quality public amenity that creates a memorable experience of place. An information board will be redesigned and placed in the gatehouse as the previous information board was not designed appropriately. Upcoming bike trek will take place in St Helens waterfront. As there were no other bike stops in St Helens. A bike station will be provided for bikers to rest. It will also act as the main bike stop. To sum up, the existing facilities will be upgraded in order to please the people using the facilities. It will also be redesigned to change the visual of the place and making it attractive. It will be much more recognized than before. Numerous toilets and showers will be added as it is for public use. Toilets for disabled people will also be added to the gatehouse and baby change will also be added as it was unavailable before.

ABOUT
Student: Aung Wai Chan _Daniela Lazar_Jessica Shin Min Thu_Wooseong Lee Award: Bachelor of Architectural Student Award 2019 The long awaited Megalithic2050, a landfilled building has officially opened its last stage over the weekend. The 130 metre tower is one of six towers proposed along the Metro Tunnel and Suburban Rail Loop that will be used for both freight and passenger trains. The other towers are located in Werribee, Fawkner, Monash, North Melbourne and Domain. This fascinating building is simply made using excavated earthly matter from site and basalt waste. The tower is built in stages, starting with the factory that organizes the extracted matter and produces new components used to build the rest of the tower through casting and 3D printing.
46/50
An analysis of the existing extractions taking place for the Metro Tunnel looking at what type of earthly matter is being excavated and where it is going. Presenting a new train line based on the Suburban Rail Loop that connects existing basalt quarries and six sites that will be managing the excavated matter on site.
47/50
MEGALITHIC
A display of the components created using excavated matter through casting and 3d printing. These components are brought together to create the Megalithic which is displayed on the State Library site. The Megalithic is built in stages which are demonstrated in the process diagram.
The section represents how earthly matter is processed and stored throughout the building. The diagram demonstrates how this excavated earthly matter is used using new technology and how the hazardous matter produce electricity that powers the new train. 48/50
