Chapter 1 The Resort & Therapy Center at Socotra Focusing on the Eco-Tourism Development, Socotra, Yemen

Socotra was the island where time stood still. Found

240 miles south of Yemen, where the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean meet, it had been nearly untouched by modernity. Also, It is being discussed as a potential biodiversity preserve, and international destination for ecotourism. It lies on its unique flora and fauna, the island has about 900 kinds of plants including 307 kinds of endemic plants such as dragon’s blood trees , frankincense, Cucumber Tree, patience tree and others. Thus, the development of ecotourism on Socotra, would ensure the establishment of biotic areas, enabling the local people to enhance their livelihoods while maintaining their traditional lifestyles. Socotra takes pride in their eco-tourism and values their spectacular plant and wildlife that may sometimes be only found on this island, so the goal is to reduce dependency [on aid] and create a sustainable economy that can produce part of locals needs. Hence, increase work and give a sustainable income-earning opportunities for local people. While, help preserve the regions heritage without intervention with the nature and provide greater interaction with locals.

The Main Buildings The three buildings in red colour are the main building in the project, the reception, the Therapy centre,and the offices.

Resort’s rooms The rooms in purple are implented in the mountain while every room is rotated in different angle to provide each room a different view while keeping it is privacy.

Chapter 3 SDME 2018 Solar-Powered House Dubai. UAE

The solar Decathlon is a worldwide competition that strives toward helping students understand the importance of sustainable housing, which will lead them to incorporate sustainable ideas into their lifestyle and their workplace. The competition challenges a team of college students to build a zero-carbon dioxide emitting house that fully rely on solar power. The house should be innovative, have a contemporary design and increase customer demand for sustainable homes. The competition reached a prominent level of success, where it had an impact on 141 college teams that researched and developed new and efficient ways to improve and implement clean energy into their sustainable houses. The contest evaluation is based on ten criteria’s that gives an objective and evaluates each team’s outcome based on each criterion. The criteria have been adjusted to meet the Gulf area climate since students have to construct a house that meets the climate changes and able to survive under conditions of high heat, high humidity and dust. Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Energy Management and Efficiency, Comfort Conditions, House Functioning, Sustainability, and Innovation. Aqua Green in Ajman University’s official team that is competing in the Solar Decathlon Middle East. Our team’s design focuses on supporting energy efficient technology and can maintain its functionality in different climates.

Design Our team’s design focuses on supporting energy efficient technology and can maintain its functionality in different climates. The material used in the process of construction is to make the transportation process easier to the exhibit in Dubai, it does not use traditional concrete blocks or reinforced concrete roofs. The house is predicted to generate zero carbon dioxide emission to the atmosphere, due to the incorporated energy efficient technologies and the implementation of a cooling and heating system that is supposed to release zero carbon dioxide emissions. The house is design focuses on reducing the reliance on the cooling and heating system. The house is going to be left for the public throughout a period of two months to test its compatibility with the ten contests., it will also test the house’s durability with the changes in climate and efficiency of sustainable functions implemented.
