With one engraved fold out map at the beginning of each volume (“Graecia et Asia Minor” – “Tabula Geographica”). New retouched edition of this highly esteemed translation of Quinte-Curce, by the grammarian Nicolas Beauzée (1717-1789). Latin text with French opposite. Full rooted calf of the time, in ne condition: smooth spine adorned with gilded eurons and parts of title of garnet morocco and volume number of green morocco, slightly bumped corners, some small snags on the boards, some browning; children’s drawings in pencil on a guard and a contreplat, spatial browning inside, red page edges, clean and sound. Complete and Very Good copy.

Edited by Christoph Friedrich Ferdinand Haacke with text in Greek and comments in Latin. Contemporary binding: half leather. External wear along edges, rubbing, joints cracked, cloth on internal joint of front cover. Clean and tight inside with just occasional minor spotting.

Lot. 8086 Starting Price: 80 € [ΣΤΡΑΒΩΝ] STRABONIS RERUM GEOGRAPHICARUM Libri XVII / Editio Stereotypa, Sumtibus et Typis Car. Tauchnitii, Lipsiae, 1829. Two (out of three) volumes, in 16mo, p. [2], 407, [1]; [2], 467, [1]. e in uential Greek geographer who travelled widely, studied under both Aristotelian and Stoic teachers, and spent some decades in Rome, wrote his work early in the rst century. Along with the less-known geographers Aratus and Geminus, Strabo promulgated the idea that the torrid zone of the spherical globe was occupied throughout its length by an ocean which divided his continent from another antipodal one in the southern hemisphere. e “Geographies” of Strabo were ‘by far the most important source for ancient geography. Text in Ancient Greek. Original paper covers, visibly worn along extremities; heavy foxing and spatial spotting throughout, but clean and rather tight. Good copy.

Κείμενο στα ελληνικά, εισαγωγή και σχόλια στα λατινικά. Ο συγγραφέας Αλκίφρων έζησε περίπου τον 3ο αιώνα μ.Χ. Οι «επιστολές» του αποτελούν μία πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα πηγή για τη μελέτη του αρχαίου κόσμου, παραθέτοντας πλούσιες πληροφορίες για τον ιδιωτικό βίο της κοινωνίας της Αρχαίας Αθήνας. Η συγκεκριμένη έκδοση της Λειψίας του Α. Meineke, βασίζεται στους κώδικες Vaticanus 140, Laurentianus plut. 59. 5 και τον κώδικα της βιβλιοθήκης του Αγ. Μάρκου VIII 2 και περιλαμβάνει θαυμάσιο κριτικό υπόμνημα, καθώς και ευφυέστατους στοχασμούς και κρίσεις του Meineke (πηγή: Πούλης Κ., «Κριτική και ερμηνευτική έκδοση των επιστολών του Αλκίφρονα», Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων, 2009).

Polybius, the known Greek historian of the Hellenistic period, is noted for his work e Histories, which covered the period of 264–146 BC and the Punic Wars in detail. e work of Polybius is popularized on the Greek text of the Schweighauser translation and notes by I. Kohen, doctor and historian of Trieste. Half leather binding, 5 nerves spine with embossed title and vol. number; marbled carton boards, wear mainly along edges. Page browning and spotting throughout, but clean and tight. Good copy overall.
