One of the most important essays on history of Ottoman Empire, which reached its apogee in the 16th century under Suleiman the Magnificent. A richly detailed history based on economic, political and social issues, along with descriptions of great battles (Constantinople, Rhodes, Lepanto). It has been said that, just as Greece has her Lord Byron, so Turkey has her Lord Kinross. Strongly bound in the publisher’s rust colored linen. Titled in gilt on the spine and the front panel. The author - Bernard Granville Baker (1870-1957) was a British soldier and painter, specializing in military subjects who wrote and illustrated a number of books. Dark orange cloth titled in gilt over front board and spine; spine slightly dull, boards with minimum wear. Text block upper edge gilt.
