A 6,500 SF retail pad building for an existing retail development project. The goal of this project was to incorporate similar styles and details existing on site. This project became the Revit reference standard for the firm. My roles were finalizing the schematic design and producing the DD and CD drawings for submission. STEEL COLUMN. SEE STRUCTURAL DWGS.

MIXEDUSE BUILDING
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SPRING 2016 DURATION:4 WEEKS This project was located in the historic neighborhood of Mt. Vernon in Baltimore, MD. The goal was to create a mixed use multi-family housing project, that would respect the surrounding historic context, The challenge of the project was not only creating a sense of community but additionally relating back to the historic context of the neighborhood.

INDEPENDENT THESIS
CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA 2018/2019 IN PROGRESS Anxiety is a debilitating illness that affects countless individuals, robbing them of their ability to BE. This thesis aims to address the societal issue of anxiety on the rise by relinking indivduals to their emotions, other human beings, imagination, the environment, time and spirituality, to ultimately remind them of their own being and therefore heal their anxiety. This thesis will investigate how architecture can serve as a catalyst for healing by relinking humans and the world [cosmos] to the extistential fabric of being through the anthropocosmos. Harmonizing the body and the mind allowing individuals to disengauge from the the chaos of their anxiety ridden minds and bodies, in order to BE and therfore heal. “Having anxiety means I’m always saying I’m sorry. ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t come to work today.’ ‘I’m sorry I left work early.’ It’s not being stressed or worried — it’s my body being pumped full of adrenaline. It’s a near-miss car accident feeling while sitting in a 2 p.m. meeting. It’s people saying, ‘Oh, we’re all stressed!’ It’s the idea that what I’m feeling is not valid, not acceptable, and if I just had my shit together, it would go away. Mental health stigma is like a big ol’ river that’s gone underground. You can’t see it anymore as overtly, but it’s still there, running strong.

Creative space for group therapy and arts therapies, therapy rooms should be large enough to be multi- purpose. People with mental health problems need space to pace, move and not feel too shut in. A garden: nature offers quiet healing to troubled souls
Everyone says it is someone else’s responsibility, but the buildings, once put up, have their effect on vulnerable patients and staff for years.

CELEBRATE: EMBRACE
PROCESS EMOTIONS
CELEBRATE BODY: LEAVING BEHIND
CELEBRATE SOUL: LET GO
THE CROSSING IS ORGANIZED AROUND THE EMBODIMENT OF THE GRIEVING PROCESS AND HOW TROUBLESOME THE PROCESS OF LETTING GO OF OUR LOVED ONES IS. THE THREE SLANTED WALLS OF THE CEREMONY SPACE AND VIEWING ROOM ACT AS A SYMBOL OF HOW WE TRY HOLDING ON TO OUR LOVED ONES, LONGING FOR ONE LAST TOUCH. THE SMALL VIEWING SPACE THAT PIERCES THE CROSSING TO THE CEREMONY ROOM SERVES AS THE PUREST EMBODIMENT FOR OUR GRIEF A PLACE TO SAY GOODBYE TO OUR LOVED-ONES PHYSICALITY, AS THEY MAKE THEIR WAY INTO THE AFTERLIFE. THE CEREMONY SPACE SPEAKS TO A DIFFERENT FACET OF LETTING GO, NOT AS A PLACE TO REMEMBER THE BODY BUT RATHER CELEBRATE THE SOUL OF OUR LOVED-ONES, WHICH IS SYMBOLIZED IN THE FROSTED GLASS WALLS THAT HUG THE STAGE. RETURNING TO THE CROSSING YOU MAKE ONE LAST PASSING OF LEAVING THAT LOVED ONE BEHIND AS YOU ARE SENT TO PROCESS YOUR GRIEF SURROUNDED BY COMFORTING GARDENS. FINALLY YOU ARE LEFT TO PASS THE FINAL CROSSING TO THE RECEPTION SPACE, WHERE A WARM EMBRACE AWAITS YOU, LEAVING YOUR LOVED ONE FOR THE LAST TIME. 32 PRIVATE VIEWING

The abrar family were a target of the terrorist group al shabab for their involvement in political activism for the rise of a new government in Somalia. They lived in fear of being captured before they were able to flee their home in Mogadishu, to Ethiopia before reciving permission to enter the U.S. Today the Abrar family continues to work as activists within their community. While still concerned with the development of government in their homeland, their focus has shifted to include activism here within the U.S. Such as recent travel bans and cuts of foreign aid here in the U.S. that has put pressure Somalia and other countries in similar political and ecological situations. Despite the parents involvement in political and humanitarian issues, the Abrar’s focus on the pillars family, faith, ethics and diligence. They encourage their children to work hard and invest their time into family and staying active, keeping true to their somali roots.

BREWERY
THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA SPRING 2014 DURATION:8 WEEKS We were given the client, D.C. Brau Brewery located in Washington, D.C. They needed a larger facility that could better accomodate their growign buisness and allow for tours without disrupting the brewing process. Research was essential in understanding the brewing process and incorporatign that into the concept of the design and the walkthrough of the spaces.
43
The process of brewing beer, transforming unrefined raw materials into a refined beverage, is a merical that has taken place form hundreds of years. This miracle begins in the barley fields, a beauty all in its own. Much like the brewing process the barley fields mimics this same language of chaos and order. At close inspection the overlapping barley stalks convey a sense of chaos as one's perception moves outwards the orderly nature of the crop rows become evident. This building mimics this same experience in relation to the brewing process.

As an Antrhopologie intern I learned to create space in a different light. This forced me to not just create space within the pieces but understand how the pieces occupied space and were experienced from multipule angles. I truely belive that my experiences at Anthropologie enhanced and widend my understanding of space as a designer. Blog Link : alexandthegreatbigwindow.wordpress.com
