:Brownhill Creek

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the Adelaide region. We respect their spiritual relationship to their country and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.

This land was once a popular place for the Kaurna People to meet and seek shelter. From the previously rich bush land scattered with great big red gum eucalyptus trees, this 400 year old hollowed out ‘shelter tree’, Monarch of Glen, is one of the few remaining. The significance of this trees extends generations of indigenious people, early settlers and the current Mitcham community as they all cherish this historic tree that stands welcoming at the entrance of the Brownhill Creek Recreational Park.

LOCATION

2.

The land use post colonial, saw it become a place of many industries while always retaining elements of recreation. From early mining quarries, to farming and forrestry, the land has suffered alterations to the natural landscape. While hiking and

tennis are among the longest standing activities enjoyed on the land, once the industries were removed, recreation and restoration became the new purpose and pride of the park. The walking path through the lucious woodlands, now meanders through

landmarks of the creek’s history. Conveniently no more than an hour travel from Adelaide by bus or car, the location remains perfectly connected to the city while providing a tranquil retreat to Australian landscape.
