Movie: The Disaster Artist

James Franco directed, coproduced and stars in this 2017 biographical dramedy, which chronicles the (mostly) true story of an unlikely friendship that develops between wouldbe actor and filmmaker Tommy Wiseau (Franco) and Greg Sestero (Dave Franco, brother of James) while the two men are working Wiseau’s 2003 film “The Room.” The latter movie has become a cult classic among aficionados of terrible movies. Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor and Zac Efron also are featured in the film, which earned several plaudits at the end of its release year. 9 p.m. on (3)

Tony Award-winning stage director Bartlett Sher (“South Pacific”) moves the action of Giuseppe’s Verdi’s 1851 operatic masterpiece “Rigoletto” to 1920s Europe in this new Metropolitan Opera production, which stars baritone Quinn Kelsey as the tragic court jester of the title. Rosa Feola sings the role of Gilda, Rigoletto’s innocent daughter, who falls for the philandering Duke of Mantua (Polish tenor Piotr Beczala). The score includes such favorite arias as Gilda’s “Caro nome” and the Duke’s “La donna e mobile.” Mezzosoprano Isabel Leonard hosts this telecast.
